It could also be a CAT heat shield, if they are still there. Although they are more towards the front/middle of the car.

A good point to start would be the tailgate rubbers, they shrink and go hard and make the tailgate rattle. Could be accentuated by your exhaust note. Put some of that foamy stuff used to line (house) doors with to prevent drafts. Welcome by the way

.....and if you spend your money on your NA you can buy the exact bits that you want. If you upgrade, you have to put up with somebody elses mods. I would do the NA up, at least you geta nice fresh paint job in a colour you can choose.
