Steve, you can have springs custom made which will be stiffer than stock but maintain the standard ride height. Price is not too bad either, maybe a few quid more than a set of Eibachs or whatever. I beleive CW can get these done.
  2. I thought a decent engine mapper would charge £60-80 per hour? Maybe I'm wrong . . . From what I have read on the frequent "Motec vs AEM" debates that crop up on supraforums, on the average road car you will see little or no benefit choosing a motec over an AEM, even though technically they are the better more capable unit. ie you're not going to see any significant bhp gains going with the Motec even though it will cost you a fair bit more; therefore it makes sense to spend that saved money on other things which will give you a better return.
  3. Pffft, drop in the ocean mate. I'm already so far in debt that another grand or two won't matter, right? No, seriously, Lar a SP has quoted $1100 for the new one I'm thinking of. Will have to keep an eye on it, looks like you and I could be obsolete and mine hasn't even run in anger yet
  4. I'm thinking of selling mine actually, I want one of those new GT800SSxyz123 turbos that SP are doing, dual ball bearing blah blah blah, sounds great! (But don't they all )
  5. I just see it as a better option when you're trying to idle big injectors, and run boost pressures double or triple what the Toyota ECU is expecting to see. The SAFC type devices seem to work very well on the 2JZ up to a point, but lots of the big-turbo cars have seen significant gains switching to (for example) AEM ECU's. For me it's even more important as my ECU is old hat compared to yours and I can't go as far with the piggybacks as you guys can before runnning into major problems. If I was going with a piggyback on a 2JZ then the e-manage would be at the top of my list for sure.
  6. You show off Terry. It's a medium one at best, you know that
  7. Will it make as much power as a big single on a Motec ECU? Hell no. Will it make more power than your current setup? Hmmm . . . quite possibly
  8. Excellent info Terry. The key thing is the ability to extend the injectors pulsewidth directly, no other piggyback can do this AFAIK and it would be very useful.
  9. I've got a copy of the software Chris, email me if you want it. AFAIK it's a fully functional version, obviously there is some stuff that you can't do without hooking it up to an E-manage though.
  10. I have done a lot of research on it with a view to using it on my Mk3 - it's not the right solution for me but I think it would work very well on a 2JZ. I'm not exactly a 2JZ guru but from what I've read, the ECU problems with the Mk3 that limit the E-manage's potential wouldn't be an issue with the 2JZ.
  11. I've done a lot of research on the E-manage and it appears to me that you have to use the MAP sensor alonside the original airflow meter, ie you can't ditch your MAF with it. Be interesting to hear what Nics bods say though.
  12. I've got the AEM wideband, works really well and looks like an excellent bit of kit. It doesn't have a display (yet) though, it's designed to work with an aftermarket ECU.
  13. The SAFC definitely can't control additional injectors, the E-manage definitely can.
  14. Supra is in bits, been gathering parts for a month or so, still waiting on a few new bits. It will be back, running 30psi, in a little while Too cold outside to go and work on it though! I need a garage . . .
  15. You can get fuel computers, check out the AIC or Rebic (I think), that will do this job. It's far from ideal though, as you have no real idea how well the fuel is distributed across the cylinders. Plus, with the cost of buying a whole new computer just to trigger your injector, buying the injector, modifying the inlet tract to mount it, modifying the fuel rail to feed it, you could have probably bought a new set of injectors of the correct size and done a much better job!
  16. Andy/Bob, you guys going? DOn't really want to take the mondeo but I could drive to your place and then chaffeur you there in Bobbehs car
  17. Can we have a clsoe up? Perhaps you could reprise the "How do you keep your car clean in this weather" post
  18. I don't think you get any pulses post-turbo, this is why "exhaust tuning" is far less critical on turbo cars. You just want the least restriction possible. Single-turbo supras in the states have shown big gains going from 3" to 3.5" to 4" setups in dyno testing.
  19. I've read that it makes the ignition coil(s) work a lot harder and can lead to quick coil failures on higher mileage engines. Might be worth looking into.
  20. Yes, I think you can switch between two maps. No idea why you would want to though.
  21. I've run the SAFCI and II on mine, the main difference is that there are more rpm points to adjust on the SAFCII, ie you can tweak the fuel curve in 12 (I think) different places and the SAFC interpolates between them, whereas with the SAFCI you only have eight points. Both do a great job though, I like them because you have a low and hi throttle map so you don't have to worry about them messing with your closed loop settings. Few more gadgets on the SAFCII as well but nothing particularly useful IIRC. The buttons are far nicer to use on the SAFCI though
  22. Well, if you get a datalogging setup then you can do a lot of your own fuel mapping. I figure my O2 setup will have paid for itself two or three times over by the time I get my extensive mods dialled in, so it makes more sense for me to have my own than paying Leon or Chris £xx per hour to fool around with it.
  23. Ferrea do a whole valvetrain upgrade for the Mk3, oversized intake and exhaust valves, double springs for less valve bounce, and retainers etc to match. Quite well regarded in the US but I'm not aware of any alternative supplier for the Mk3 to compare them against. Certainly never heard of any issues though!
  24. Pete, the question I'd like to know the answer to is, "how can I compare at-the-hub results to at-the-wheels results?"
