I'm not going to re-run the arguments as to why Scotland could easily be a viable independent nation, suffice to say that Norway, Finland, Ireland and Slovakia are all similarly sized to Scotland in many measures, and all are successful independent states, some of them without the curse of having some oil! Conversely, it is arrogant to think that we could not be an independent nation. If Scotland joined the EU as an independent nation, our status and representation would increase dramatically. The 'British Empire'??? I think you'll find that died in 1961! It's now a reminder of colonial oppression and conquests from centuries ago....

No, currently Scotland fishery interests in Europe are represented by George Eustace, the tory MP for Cambourne and Redruth - we sure as hell didn't vote for him! The westminster government will not allow representatives of the elected Scottish Government to attend EU meetings on fishing, despite the fact that agriculture and fisheries are devolved matters in Scotland. THe fishing industry was destroyed in the 1970's by Harold Wilson's Labour government, when they capitulated to US and NATO pressure by agreeing to Icelandic demands to exclude UK based trawlers from a 200 mile limit around Iceland. Iceland had threatened to evict the US and NATO forces from Keflavik.

It's more complicated than that... The political landscape is very different in Scotland and have been since the 1980's, add to that the greater acceptance of Europe and the Europeans in Scotland means that there isn't the great fear of Europe and the pervasive 'little Englander' attitude towards the French and Germans. There is also a different attitude amongst individual Scots compared with other parts of the UK, we are accepting of our size and our population and we don't hold inflated illusions about our importance on the world stage - we know who we are! When you have your identity, history and culture secure in your own mind, you don't fear others and are more pragmatic about relations with other nations. Most folks under 75 realise that we trade with Europe on a daily basis and are familiar with European tourists and migrants working here and, are familiar with the globalisation of the world. Given the levels of ignorance and indifference to what happens in Scotland as shown by the BBC and other London based news channels, it's little wonder that there is little understanding of why there are differences in how different parts of the UK will vote in the EU referendum. This 'insularity' of the news output extends to Europe, as very few viewers get properly informed about what is really happening beyond our shores

A large number of Scots believe it was and there is still a lingering discontent over the disappearance of many thousands of postal votes..... Firmly on the remain side, I've given my reasons much earlier in this thread. I don't know anyone under 75 years of age who isn't in the remain camp. But then that's the age group that were most against Scottish Independence....

    Salon names

Blonde, Dye, Bleach (say it in an Aussie accent!) It's not uncommon up here to use gaelic words for salon names, particularly as they relate to beauty The Scots gaelic word for beautiful curly locks of female hair is Dualaich

Who the hell thought that Gordon Brown would be a suitable 'figurehead' for the Remain campaign? Surely he is so tarnished from his period as prime minister and in Scotland for the lies he spouted in the independence referendum? He is often cited as one of the reasons for the death of the Labour party, in it's birth country, Scotland. He is one of the original 'red tories' and from my perspective, he won't help the Remain campaign one iota. Is he a Brexit plant?

I can't disagree with you, although their bias worked in another referendum they tirelessly took a government position on. There is no limit to the depths that BBC news will reach to make their favoured political point. On another note: http://www.scotsman.com/news/eu-referendum-poll-76-per-cent-of-scots-against-brexit-1-4124162 Could our support keep you in when 'the result is too close to call' ?
  8. Labour's demise in Scotland continues, they are now the third party behind the SNP, the Ruth Davidson party (Tories - she's shy about putting the brand on her election material!) and then Labour. The Greens are ahead of the Liberals, who are in the wastelands with fifth place.
  9. @ Marcus, did the 1990's answer your call?
  10. Labours branch office in Scotland already has imploded, the latest polling suggests that out of 129 Scottish Parliamentary seats, the SNP will win 71 seats, with the Tories on 23, Labour on 20, the Greens on nine, and the Liberal Democrats on six! A generation ago, Labour were ubiquitous in Scotland, their leader here, Kezia Dugdale, has the lowest approval rating at a risible -5!
  11. Hard luck mate, hands up who hasn't over cooked a RWD car in the wet? Looking at the video a few times, it looks like the car became unsettled as the power was applied whilst crossing over the white lines on the road. As any biker will testify, white lines in the wet are like ice. Hope you get it fixed and can get to show it off later in the summer.
  12. A bloke on my Smart roadster website uses a remapped Smart Roadster for hill climbing, he generally comes in the middle of the field as most of the fastest cars are Caterhams or Lotus 7 based track day specials. He regularly beats most of the 2.0l class production cars. His best finish is a 2nd in the 1300cc class ( the 699cc roadster is classed as 1188cc because it's turbo'd!) He missed 1st by 0.2 sec.

Different places have different problems, my employer is advertising for the third time for clerical staff who will work a 35 hr week for £18,500!
  14. Not in Scotland they aren't, Scottish Power and SSE use timers for Economy 7, and have their own radio controlled tariff called Total Control which gives a variable boost in the afternoon and evening depending on the demand for electricity.
  15. The times for the Hydro board's Economy 10 are on here: http://www.albynhousing.org.uk/assets/0000/0709/Scottish_Hydro_Electric_Economy_10.pdf 04:30 - 07:30 13:30 - 16:30 20:30 - 0:30 These times are GMT as far as I know, so your daughter may have to change the times on the heating controller.
  16. I've got Economy 7, the cheap rate is 23:45 till 07:45 GMT and 0:45 till 08:45 BST, the hot water controller has a Summer/Winter setting that needs to be manually set. If you have Total Control, then SSE or Scottish Power control the time via a radio tele-switch..
  17. I've only had a small amount of negativity about my Supra in the 6 1/2 years of ownership, firstly from a green minded lady who bitched about its CO2 emissions. I asked her how many new Renault Clios she had bought new in the 22 years since my Supra was built, 6 was her answer. I enjoyed the slow realisation on her face about who had caused the larger CO2 cloud! The only other slight piece of negativity is regarding the autobox, but then I've only had that from spotty oiks with Corsas and Astras.
  18. Pictures please! I can't help with the car, except to say that having seen my local paint guy carry out a long term restoration on a 380SL, the tin worm can really get a grip on them, so careful storage is a must. Beautiful and classy cars - definitely a classic.
  19. Indeed! Need to sort out where I'll meet up with you guys, Broxburn Services on outskirts of Perth is a possibility............
  20. i'm not able to change things around unfortunately Got to give it a miss this month guys, sorry.....
  21. I love these types of videos, especially as I'm not involved in pulling the 10 hour night-shifts! Have a look at http://www.forth-bridges.co.uk/queensferry-crossing/gallery-queens/north-tower-gallery.html and select 'Queenferry Crossing - Review of 2015' to see a time lapse of a large bridge being built and a smaller one being demolished. The bridge opens later in the year, ahead of schedule and under budget, which must be some kind of miracle!
  22. Stick me down as a definite maybe. I have something on for Sunday, which I'll see if I can move to the Saturday instead.

Well I feel I've done my bit to explain my reasoning for why I'll be voting yes in the EU referendum, and I note that the poll has moved very marginally in favour of the Yes camp, having started at 80/20, it's now 77/23! With that sort of momentum, perhaps it'll be 50/50 by 23/6/16? I'm away now to campaign for the SNP in the forthcoming Scottish Parliamentary elections on 5/5/2016, where the SNP are heading for 55% of the votes and an historic third term. Any further thoughts on Europe can wait till after that.

It's not personal, we are giving our opinions as to how we vote in the forthcoming referendum. If it gets personal, then I'm out.
