  1. That's pretty much the course of action I have taken. Their guy isn't back while Thursday now though, so ill call up on thurs too so that I ensure they test it as a ge and not a gte. That pdf was quite handy!
  2. DIY is fun, but only if you dont mind ripping it out and plugging it back in several times I somehow ended up picking out the wrong LEDS so the temp dial on mine is purple whilst the rest is blue O_o If you cant be bothered with the fuss (To be honest I like taking stuff apart and putting it back together) then pay Heckler, as he does a cracking job.
  3. To adjust your lights I think its the middle 8mm bolt (at the bottom of the light), turning this anti-clockwise will lower the headlight beam, clockwise will raise it. I am assuming that the J spec and UK spec (electronic controls, assuming UK lights) are the same headlight construction as far as adjusting bolts.
  4. Ive booked it back in for a retest at the first garage, but called them to speak to the MOT testing guys. I used the PDF File Ilicos provided to follow the flow diagram and gave the guys the page number I was looking at, and that it should be getting through as a non-cat test. I reckon, as has been pointed out, that theyre just putting the computer on and picking the 2jz-gte engine. Unfortunately I now have to wait until Thursday.. getting more annoying than anything really. If they fail it again, I plan on contacting VOSA about it provided that its not an actual fail against the correct test - i.e. if theyre putting it through as the wrong engine still then I wont be happy at all. Not sure if VOSA can do anything mind, but im annoyed enough to do it out of principle at the moment.
  5. Cheers Ilicos, I am going to print that out and take it to the MOT station myself if it fails again. Theyre pretty much having a bit of a joke at my expense with this. Headlight issue is annoying too, its hardly yellow because I polish it regularly yet theyre pulling it on that.. grr. But non the less, extremely useful info - thank you
  6. The garage doing the work is sound - but they are using a testing centre which appears to go through stages of being "uber strict" with everything then going the opposite way - perhaps theyve been checked recently by VOSA? Tried some STP fuel system cleaner, new sensors, sorted headlight beams out.. fingers crossed!! But then its tax and insurance time
  7. Ive got some new lambda sensors installed (Well, 2nd hand ones from Keron) and sorted the shock and the rear fog light out.. But now im being pulled up on the headlights! One has condensation inside - so I can see the issue, but ive cleaned it out as much as possible and although the lense is plastic I did polish it up with some plastrx. So ive swapped that headlight over for a spare one in the garage. The other headlight is now being pulled up for the beam being angled incorrectly - not sure how as ive never fiddled with that and it passed the last two MOTs with that exact headlight in perfectly fine! Its beginning to get rather annoying! If they were excessively deteriorated I would understand but theyre not =/
  8. It failed on the lambda reading after the cat, was out of the tolerance by 0.03 bugger.. maybe its down to it just being started up, driven literally 300 yards and then tested?
  9. Had mine in for MOT recently and its failed on the following Headlights - Wrong colour (I have HIDs, but theyre the white ones not the blue ones). I have put normal yellow bulbs in to rectify. Headlights - Angle - Could be because of the HIDs that were in , hopefully the good ol yellow 55w should fix that. Rear fog light - Red light not being emitted - fixed by painting bulb, but ive bought another bulb from ultraleds which ill fit and that should sort that out. Rear nearside shock absorber serious leak - 2nd hand one from Keron en route to be fitted. Emissions - Failed on the lamba sensor reading Its a 1994 J spec N/A, with both cats in, standard engine zero modifications - Ive read somewhere that they are supposed to be tested against default values, but im not sure what the testing station is running it against. Is there anything I can do to rectify this? Ive ordered replacement lamba sensors from Keron and ill have them fitted in - but some sort of fuel cleaner was suggested by the garage and relatives.. I know its only an N/A but will this be detrimental to the engine? Any nice tips of how to get its emissions down are appreciated - its been stood for a while too, which may explain some of it but would the solution to this be to just leave it on until up to temp and then rev it a fair bit for a period of time to clear it out? Cheers guys
  10. More often than not though the person who picks up the weapon is going to end up with it being used on themselves. The downside to this is that the criminals will get "tooled up" properly prior to committing the crime, in the knowledge that they may be faced with an armed home-owner. Theyre still going to commit the crime, but will have a knife / gun / bat as well as the crowbar and bolt croppers. The good side is that it may deter some burglars, and if someone steps foot in your house, with an intention to steal and possibly kill people in doing so, you should be able to react with unrestrained force because you dont know their intentions. I think when I watched "law abiding citizen" the opening scene isnt far from what can happen in reality, especially if you are unable to defend yourself from the person/s unlawfully entering your home. Failing that, why cant we simply cut the hand off of a convicted burglar - would stop them doing it, and if it doesnt, take the other hand off aswell. The law has protected criminals for too long. My bike was recently stolen, I know who by, and where they live, but the police seem either unable to do a thing or generally just not interested - though they were quick to warn me if I took it back by force or "stole" it back I would be up the creek without a paddle!
  11. One of my mates at work was discussing his MOT this lunchtime. He is in need of new pads but wants to know if he has to get brembo ones or whether there are alternatives. He doesnt use it for the track, just the occasional commute so could get away with cheaper pads - but neither of us know much about them. Is the above even possible, or does he have to get brembo pads for them? Just curious really but mentioned to him that id ask here since we are both clueless on the matter!
  12. Shot in the dark here, anyone got first hand experience of med-school in Malta, or looked into it previously. I am hearing things that sound too good to be true, for example no course fees for EU members and low costs of living. Just wondering if anyone else has ever looked into it and has some information. From the university websites it does look like all they want is a registration fee of 400 Euros per year - makes it a damn sight cheaper than trying to go in the UK. As with most things if it seems too good to be true there's usually a catch, which is what i'm trying to identify..
  13. Its just pretty awesome if you like comedy movies
  14. Old school.. doesnt even need an explanation as to why either!
  15. http://www.amazon.com/Denso-234-1055-Oxygen-Sensor-Ratio/dp/B000C5UF44/ref=au_pf_pfg_s?ie=UTF8&Model=Supra|1030&n=15684181&s=automotive&Make=Toyota|76&Year=1994|1994&newCar=1&carId=001 Even cheaper on Amazon if thats the right one!
  16. Seems a fitting thread for my problem. Yesterday the central locking worked fine, today it doesnt Checked fuses, one of the 15amp ones had melted but I believe this to be the headlight RH.. so going to investigate this a bit. Symptoms - central locking no longer triggered from key fob which is linked to the locking via the alarm. When driving usually locks after about 10 seconds, this no longer happens The central locking button next to the window controls is no longer working. I hear a click from what I think is the mechanical relay behind it, but the sound of the motor, or whatever controls the locks is not present. It is working intermittently, sometimes pressing the button gets a partial sound as if its trying to lock, other times nothing at all, and on the rare occasion its actually operating as it should. Ive read about a red relay box? Is this in the fuse compartment under the bonnet does anyone know? Also about a clip behind the glove box? I am going to have a go at taking the glove box out and seeing if I can spot anything behind there which may have come loose. The strange thing is that it sounds like its trying to work, it does on some occasions, but in general it seems dead. Pic of my rather spectacular melted fuse... Strangely enough investigating this melted fuse, it is drivers side headlight. Removed fuse, headlight flickers continually - thought it should just go out. Passenger side goes out. Got HID ballasts. Strange, with no fuse the headlight flickers a lot on driver side, yet passenger side correctly does not light up. Got HIDs in there but still with no fuse the ballast shouldnt be getting power..
  17. We got a well known cricketer* to join in with us at a corporate games weekend a few years back. Basically take one can of lager, people stand in circle and pass the can around, each person has to "nut" the can (the side.. or your off to hospital). Eventually the can begins to leak and then its a case of drinking it via the leak and nutting it again then passing on. *Edit, maybe not a great idea to name him lol but we do have a video of it!
  18. Not a bad turn up at all, some nice expensive motors on show too.
  19. Oh I was down dog kennel lane also - that layby doesnt look very big!
  20. Makes a change though your car not in dust-grey colour
  21. Ok should be myself, Iceman and also an RX8 and 350Z turning up for this.. 8:30 at the layby
  22. Im trying to get a friend with a 350z to come along too.. cleaned my car tonight The only thing that will stop me is if my sat night out gets messy.. as I wont even think of risking driving it remotely hung over. Eye spy.
  23. Still contemplating this depends how my Saturday is, will be taking it easy though =)
