so presumably with yours pete the raised boost cuit level can only be set at the maximum readable boost governed by the map sensor? Ie my map sensor maxes out at 1bar so presumably the vfcc in that case wont be able to raise the boost cut limit above this (as the stock boost cut is also at 1bar).
  2. If you find out post on here !!
  3. Anyone else? Come on you lot, its a good show, this year should be bigger and better than last.
  4. Im there.. both days.. white mk3 aero.. prob parked with the toyota owners club as theres never many mk3's there.
  5. Thats also meant to happen Steve, but i am 99% positive that when the fluid gets extremely hot to ridiculous temps it dumps out of the nearest exit. I've also had it happen on another autobox , again after it had cooled down it was fine.
  6. It sounds like the fluid overheated.. For some reason, when the ATF gets *extremely* hot the geaarbox is designed (purposely or otherwise) to dump it out of the nearest hole. Why it does this i cant remember, but i know that it does. When it cools down eveything will go back to normal which is why your gearbox is now fine again. Why it happened is another matter... perhaps you should try fitting an additional cooler. Are you running high hp figures?
  7. yep mk3, but its a 1JZ. We can only put it down to an optimax episode last year, which also killed off four of my plugs within 30 miles of filling up with the stuff. Never touched it since.
  8. What.. like this? Ignore the brown bits, they're twigs..
  9. The free fuel cut on the 1JZ engine (very similar engine) is a zener diode trick in the map sensor input to the ECU.
  10. I think Chris Wilson does a car checkover service for potential buyers.. definately worth the cost id say.
  11. now this is the kind of thing i was originally thinking of.. but have since been told it wont be up to the job as a standalone air cooler. Can anyone confirm if i need to go bigger if i this will be my only form of cooling? It wont be a secondary oil cooler, it will be solely responsible for cooling the ATF.
  12. Can anyone recommend a competeitely priced yet effective tranny cooler and or supplier, which would do the job on an oil-air basis (stock one being removed). I presume i'll need either one decent one or two smaller ones... the box is near enough identical to the boxes you use in the mkiv. Im having ro replace my radiator as its cracked, and i cant get a replacement one so im going for a koyo from the states, but its only for a manual...hence my dilemma. Will be running about 400 bhp absolute tops, but probably settling at 370 odd. Where did you all get yours from? Cheers adi
  13. Hi all, Ive recently heard of having the injectors 'sonic cleaned', anyone know what this is and if they do it with the injectors in situ?
  14. hmm, ive been considering one for a while... i may be interested if you go ahead..
  15. The best place for a BOV on any modded car is as close to the inlet manifold as possible.. It gives the quickest reaction time apparently....
  16. One side of the cam belt flapping around like a pair of womens curtains.... I can only assume its thrown a few notches on the cam pulley. Anyone knw if the avensis 1.8 is a valve safe design? Im having difficulty finding out. adi
  17. Cheers all, i'll find out late today.. hopefully nothing serious but the thing sounds like a clapped out old diesel.. if not worse. oh well.. cheers adi
  18. so if the belt had slipped, would this cause the massive knocking noise then?
  19. Hi all.. heard a funny noise as i was dirving the avensis home tonight... its a very loud knocking, sounds like piston slap or shells. Also, under the cam belt cover i occasionally get a flapping type noise like something hitting the cam belt cover... i took the cover off (couldnt get it completely off as it was dark and its not a very good design) and the belt is well loose.. i can move it probably 15-20mm each way... Anyone got any ideas what could have happened? I know the came belt hasnt snapped but if perhaps a tensioner has come loose could it have slipped the belt and bugered all the timing up, causing the massive knock im getting? Cheers adi
  20. Tighten the straps under your chin, theyve probably come a bit loose... or perhaps you could look into alternative more sensible headwear when driving your car? But if not.. this link here has some good tips.
