Thought i,d get this done, prior to Japfest. Took my tt 6 sp into a local garage , and after 3 hours got a call alls done. Went to collect my car . Arrived at the garage and had a chat with the mechanic, he said he doubts if the diff oil had been changed in donkeys years, as what came out was almost like tar, ( he kept it to show me ) so this i guess was a good call getting the diff oil changed the same time as the gearbox oil. But before booking it in , i wanted to know the products used for each of the three oil changes. Gearbox + Diff , the oil used for both of these was Morris MTF Fully synthetic , this is the newer better, gear/diffbox oil , and for the engine oil he used Morris fully synthetic 5w/30. ( i know the engine oil is,nt the best but as i change this every three months, its a good oil for regular changes ) My car is a daily driver. Paid the bill £120 , and off i went. Before the gearbox oil was changed , to select 1st or reverse after a cold night could be a bit stiff . Got in it this morning after a realy cold night , and it slipped into 1st and reverse with no bother , and changing gears now feels sooooo much smoother . So its my conclusion if you,ve got a gearbox thats a bit testy in gear selection when cold, would be to have an oil change, before paying big bucks on a garage to fault find . TAT TA ........
