  1. You are not the first This brought back memories!
  2. That would be good, I remember being impressed you could extract all the data! You did well getting your replacement way back then (might even have to thank - or at least now forgive- the misses for bending the other one!?), seemed a lot at the time I recall but a very wise decision it's turned out to be.
  3. Small claims procedure isn't going to be quick and with no contact details you might struggle to follow the stages you have to prior to making a claim. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/small-claims-court/ If you research on here you may be able to eventually locate people/him or someone on here may tip you off but probably unlikely. I'm not being defeatist but the realistic way of this going forward anywhere near quickly is you having to spend more money. Getting it running with an NA drivetrain might only cost £4K or so for example, a TT with LSD perhaps £8K not sure as the engine is the issue with TT's not sure when I've last seen one? Figures could be way off just saying what I think you should calculate so you can see what may or may not work for you
  4. Monkey3 did a whole load of work after I pointed him to a data source, he's a coder or IT guy and extracted all the colours and models I think I just can't find the actual thread, the one here is the start of what happened. I'll keep searching
  5. Isn't the 350 GZ AEROTOPS not just GZ's?
  6. You can see more work done here re the suspension bolts and arms and general tidy up and so if you had your whole drive train it would still smart but at least you'd have all the bits to finish. TT engines seem rare these days, auto boxes and open diffs not too expensive. You could look into a V8 or NA as a means to get mobile? but probably not what you want.
  7. Was it a facelift? as per Wile, I'd suspect engine mounts (especially if a facelift as their design is different and they are known for it)
  8. This sucks, it would be bad enough to have the car returned without stuff, but to have paid that much on top for some rust treatment and under seal work (probably other stuff but that's what I can see from the engine bay) I'm gutted to see this. Can you take a picture from the rear underneath and central and pointing up. Trying to see if you have a differential in there, you don't have a prop shaft from what I can see It's possibly going to be hard and expensive to source all these bits but you need to know everything that's missing first to give yourself a chance of estimating it and being able to plan ahead.
  9. I agree the forum can't officially do much, also they can get it in the neck for not allowing hobbists/traders on sometimes so can't win. 99% of these situations start with the best intentions but a number eventually turn a bit sour and those unfortunate enough to be involved at that time get stung. The price of the cars and parts now means everyone is going to have to be even more careful.
  10. If you are up for it, post up some pictures and the collective can perhaps comment. Are you down money on this or 'just' whatever is missing?
  11. This is a sad situation, there have been similar over the years but at least in times gone by a few grand for an engine and you're back in the game etc, these days it's not so easy. Oxy's engine could easily be spread to the four corners by now for all we know (some other member might have even paid for it), unfortunately even with contact details being given etc I just can't see you getting a even mildly satisfactory outcome. Do you know what you need to sort it, Engine or Engine + ECU + loom, etc etc? Gutted for you.
  12. Loads of info in the link, to help narrow down the issue?
  13. Aircon try and find someone with one of those home topup kits. The pressure reader on them can give some clues to what might be wrong ie you can have nil, low or excessive pressure. A professional aircon person will obviously be able to check this easily also. I had a valve (still available as pretty generic part) go behind the dash that meant the system would get excessively pressurised and shutdown to protect itself. I think there is a basic diagnostic procedure on the cabin buttons that might assist.
  14. Red light is pressure no? Yellow is oil can with waves ie Oil level +Yellow is warning Red is more serious so danger/stop
  15. As the issue seems intermittent you could remove the current one and check the 'float' movement is smooth, probably could check the continuity etc on it? Perhaps a good brake cleaner etc clean up and refit and it'll be fine? The sensor is 'L' shaped and reasonably delicate so will need rotating/teasing out the hole if you do remove it.
  16. Rider's posted description sounds like the red oil light not the yellow one? You say under the bonnet is bone dry, worth a good torch around from underneath/through wheel arches etc to triple check oil isn't collecting in/on the undertray. That seems unlikely if you've checked the levels etc. So could well be a sticking/faulty oil level sensor, there is a little float section and may be that's getting stuck down sometimes?
  17. I think it may read the SRS Airbag and ABS codes but not the Engine stuff? Really not sure how the Diagnostic ports link to or through the ECU, ie 'perhaps' the diagnostic port picks up the signal direct from sensors not through the ECU, but really I'm clueless on all this so just have to see what happens, I don't really know fully how to use the tool yet!
  18. Well pm me a Postcode and I'll see how far it is, it'll only take a few mins of driving and checking one day after work, be interesting to see if it gets any readings, the wires to the Diagnostic port might simply not connect to anything anymore.........I can try from the engine bay socket too just for completeness.
  19. True! be interesting to see what it still picks up if anything engine wise.......presume the ABS and Airbag stuff will read as normal but like you say engine code wise we might be struggling, the main warning light is coming on for something despite being on the syvecs (do the syvec inbuilt warnings trigger the main light too normally?) so worth a try?
  20. Yeah just let me know and we'll sort something out
  21. James if your old man is about one time, I can pop over and see what it says?
  22. ok it works! Found a fault on my abs or a stored code (no ABS light on dash) I don't think it can clear codes from my brief look. Does all sorts of cool (relative!) stuff and is for LS400 and other Toyota's of this vintage
  23. got the tool to work Friday but manic day and the car's under a cover so getting home for the weekend 'won'! so will plug it all in Monday and post up the results.
