Just failed MOT emissions advice needed
Supra-Brett replied to Supra-Brett's topic in mkiv Technical
Dont know, recall a conversation with the MOT tester a few years back when the spec was 3.5%. he said that he couldnt find the Supra model (N/A) on the DVLA emissions register and hence they just used a "capture all" massive spec of 3.5% in such cases. bearing in mind that conversation, im wondering if they have mistakenly used the emissions spec for a UK TT car on other years? -
Just failed MOT emissions advice needed

Sorry the formatting has come out all messed up when i clicked submit!! -
Good evening everyone, im hoping that i can benefit from your combined experience and shed some light on what may be at fault. My car is a 93N/A Jspec. Ive just had the car MOT`d and it failed on emissions. I have several questions about this 1) Ive looked back at previous MOT emissions readings to see if i can find a pattern that may assist you in identifying the cause of the failure/high emissions and i list them below DESCRIPTION DATE SPECIFICATION ACTUAL VALUE PASS/FAIL CO Feb 2005 HC Feb 2005 Lambda Feb 2005 0.97 - 1.030 1.015 PASS CO Jan 2007 HC Jan 2007 Lambda Jan 2007 NOT EVEN ON MOT EMISSIONS SHEET!! CO Jan 2008 HC Jan 2008 Lambda Jan 2008 0.97 - 1.030 1.023 PASS CO Jan 2009 HC Jan 2009 Lambda Jan 2009 NOT EVEN ON MOT EMISSIONS SHEET!! CO Jan 2010 HC Jan 2010 Lambda NOT EVEN ON MOT EMISSIONS SHEET!! CO Jan 2011 HC Jan 2011 Lambda Jan 2011 0.97 - 1.030 1.063 FAIL (again how did it pass last year?) CO Jan 2012 HC Jan 2012 Lambda Jan 2012 0.97 - 1.030 1.038 FAIL PS: they actually did 2 x fast idle checks for emissions in 2011 and 2012 and both results were similar each year. It looks like my CO emissions have been rising gradually since i bought the car in 2005 (apart from the spurious 0% result in 2008). Why would my emissions have risen over the years? What corrective action is needed to get the car back below the 0.3% limit? (replace Catalytic converter?) 2) Why has the specification for emissions (CO) changed since I bought the the car in 2005. From 2005 to 2012 the specification on the MOT emissions slips has changed from . WHY? Any advice would be welcome (especially a good garage in Reading)

wasn't me neither. Quite miraculously, I haven't seen a silver Supra in Reading for a while now (apart from mine)!!!!!!!

I have trouble in the wet in my N/A. Back end is pretty easy to lose if you drive it the wrong way and continue as you may quite easily do in the dry. I don't think i have an LSD though, so im sure it would be much better with one installed. Basically its very twitchy in the wet and even with N/A power its easy to spin the wheels. The Supra is certainly less forgiving than the FWD cars people mentioned trying to keep up with earlier in the thread.

I think i paid about £200 fitted for my N/A cambelt changed last year. Not sure if the TT is that different though

That looks like it to me, but don't take that as verbatim as i could well be wrong. I had a spare one in the glovebox for a couple of years then last time i cleaned the car i threw it out!!!!. I recall it had three wires coming from it, but yours looks like it has a fourth.

Mines behind the dash up top behind the thin section of dash that you remove first before the bigger speedo bit etc. From memory its a blue wire that links to milometer also. Not a great explanation i know, but it might set you on the right path.

Someone has to say it Fix It After Travelling

Some donkey has parked across my driveway for last two days - what can I do
Supra-Brett replied to far's topic in Off Topic
I would call the police back and advise them that as your car is blocked in they CAN do something about it. If they don't send anyone around then I would find as much dog Sh1t as I could and smear it all over the door handles and windscreen. If I had the ability to do so, I would also tow it out of the way. -
Ughhhh, doesn't mention any 4gb slim compatibility issues on the box, although does mention needs a 2Gb HDD (i thought the 4Gb on-board was HDD, but obviously not as it sounds like flash memory). Ive just been looking on ebay for HDD upgrades. I can get a 20Gb one for £15. and there are loads of non-OE options available. Have you any idea if these work/will be as good as OE?

OK, got Battlefield 3 yesterday. Bloke in the shop says make sure you download the HD content from the disc as it make the game lots better. I have Black Xbox 360 4Gb version. I insert disc, click to download HD content (which says it needs 1.5Gb free memory and i have 2.4Gb free). Then I get a message saying that it wont let me download the HD content as its only possible to download it on an Xbox hard drive Whats going on? Ive checked the on-board memory (which I thought was classed as the hard drive) and the description of this on the screen is that this storage is a "memory Unit" not a hard drive. Now i can only play the game with less than expected graphics. Any ideas? Also, does anyone know how i can upgrade the memory on a 4Gb Xbox?

So its Dulux all the way sounds like they have a monopoly -
which Gloss paint? one that doesn't yellow!!
Supra-Brett replied to Supra-Brett's topic in Off Topic
Thanks for the advice everyone. This yellowing seems like a widespread problem!! I've looked up eggshell and the Dulux website says it is a low sheen matt finish. Not really what the wife is after. Is it a similar look to silk emulsion? Has anyone had any experience with other glosses from companies like Leyland? -

Thanks. I've never heard of that one. Will try it. -
OK, question for the painters and decorators on here. I moved in my house a few years back, made a fabulous job of the preparation, undercoat and glossing (if I do say so myself) but it started to yellow 5 months or so afterwards. I used the Dulux Trade gloss and undercoat which goes on well and is bright white when applied. Now although my house isn't exactly a green house, its still south facing, but still doesn't get as much natural light as I would like, so I'm assuming this is why it has yellowed (says on the tin that it needs sunlight to stay white) Time has come for a new carpet so I may as well gloss it again before the carpet goes down. Has anyone got any idea which gloss is best and doesn't yellow? Any advice will be appreciated Thanks in advance

Possibly, but sure the guy at Toyota said Platinum. He did mention 60K change intervals if that helps?

Thanks mate but would prefer to buy new. Finger crossed i can find somewhere as low as that price anyway (lives in hope). Ive seen a few people on here post great places to buy them in the past, and am hoping someone has a good link or two

Racing cars like that one should be kept off the road apparently - even though the sentence before said its road legal.
