Have you been to Chris`s garage ? I am going to have a good listen to the soop again 2morrow morning when I get in, its really bugging me this noise, its a slight knock but if reved slightly it goes off, just cant tell if its big ends or not but need to find out soon because I got it from a Garage so I think I have some comeback, not sure of my rights exactly though

Newbury Berkshire , finish at 7am maybe 6am then a 150 mile drive home in the Vectra. Big day tomorrow , taking the Soop to see Chris Wilson (hopefully) , got a slight knocking on the engine on tickover, praying its not a big end, only had the car 3 weeks.

Try and stop being paranoid about every clunk click squeal squeak knock I hear on my car..... having said that Im still going to see Chris Wilson either tomorrow or Saturday in case its a big end knocking :(

I have read on here that Chris Wilson is a top bloke, does he have a garage and is he open on Saturdays. I would imaging someone like Chris could tell what this noise was by having a listen , obviously any remedial work would be done by him ( funds permitting ) Is he an approachable guy or would the car have to be booked in etc etc :search: Anybody have his business address ??? I know he is in Shropshire somewhere

I cannot hear any knocking when its cold. I have noticed what sounds like maybe the water pump is a bit squeaky/squeely when its cold but that goes off when its been running a while. I havne really drove the car much over the past few weeks since I got it as I have been working away. I started it yesterday for the first time in 5 days and just let it tick over until warm, mainly just to keep it going. I might be paranoid but you know what its like when you buy a car , always listening for the worst. Would a big end noise go when you rev the engine, I would have thought the knocking would get faster, any ideas

why when its cold, should it be worse then ??

You know what noises are like , hard to describe, I recognise the injector ticking but this is more like a slight knock, but as I said if I rev it "very" slightly it goes and cannot be heard when driving at all under load , I may be paranoid.

Firstly I have been reluctant to post this as ignorance is bliss so head in the sand trick. :( However , bite the bullet and ask this question. I have noticed, on tick over, there is a slight knocking noise coming from the engine, if I put the minimum revs on the noise vanished and otherwise is sweet as a nut, its just there on idling, it doesnt always do it but it is there sometimes..... Could this be the start of a big end bearing going ???? What are the classic signs of big ends failing, and how can I test for it ?? the car only has around 68Kms ( alledgedly)
