Few, if any, Hollywood remakes of Asian movies are any good. these originals are far superior to the Hollywood remakes: Ring (trilogy) and other Ring movies The Grudge Infernal Affairs (trilogy) dread to think what they will do to My Sassy Girl, the original is a classic film. and there are other Asian movies that are ruined by Hollywood. One Japanese movie that turned out great was Kurosawa's, Kagemusha, which also had work done on it by George Lucas. but not many from the west work on Asian movies. i find the problem i have with them, you lose the original Asian mysticism and character background. most seem to not explore that in depth in the Hollywood versions. today, i was reading that Will Smith's son is going to star in a remake of the Karate Kid, another waste of time remake. wonder who they will chose to play Noriyuki Morita's part.

hi everyone, need some urgent advice regarding road tax, so any help appreciated. is it legal to get road tax on an insurance cover note. i have tried in the past but the post office said i could not do that. The lady at Sky said i should be able to do that with no problems. i have been waiting a few days for the actual certificate of insurance from Sky, and it is only just being sent today. so it wont be here until wednesday or thursday, but mail arrives around 1PM which is another day wasted. thanks in advance Ian

interesting article Steve, had not seen that, or heard about it before. i will stay away from the University area when i am there in a few weeks. funny thing with this, article says Hainan University is in resort town of Hainan, but it is in Haikou. there is no Hainan town or city. really did enjoy reading the translated blog. good to get a first hand perspective

The way it will work out. you will probably end up with two, different ones

a total shock to read this, had no idea this was on the cards. a very good author. i know mostly he was thought of for Jurassic Park, but i remember him as creator of E.R. which at one time was an excellent series. RIP.

hi, the D80 is a nice choice of camera, glad you got one of them best thing to do would be to buy another battery. That way you will know if it is a battery fault, or something else. Also, never hurts to have a spare one. one thing with these type of batteries, don't let them discharge completely, they are not designed for this. Best way is to recharge them often, normally minimum i let mine get to is 50% power, but try to recharge at 70% - 80%. Sometime in the future, really would recommend you to get a MB-D80 for the camera, it will take two batteries and is more practical for a days shooting, or if you are on vacation. I use an MB-D200 and it vastly improves handling of the camera with the other control options, more so a much better grip, and just feels right in your hands. hope you have many hours of great photography, a whole new world out there when you see it through a camera

great breakdown of Hotels, cheers for that, mate i plan to be there for 5 weeks, first week in HK, then going to Beihai, Hainan Island, and Nanning. then for final week back to HK again, maybe a couple of days in Macau. no such luck as claiming it back. purely a vacation with the future wife in HK, finally hitting Nanning for us both to visit her family loks, thanks for all the advice , and appreciate helping if i have anymore questions. Depending on how things go, would like to be living in HK, maybe next year, or year after, definitely will have a place in Nanning. i may stop over in Shenzhen for one night too. not sure though. cheers once again, Ian

hi everyone, need some advice on some decent hotels to stay in, in Hong Kong. i will be going their in 3 weeks for about 5 weeks (including some time in southern China) and would be helpful to know anyone's choices, views, or knowledge, or personal experiences. I don't mind where the hotel is situated, whether it is HK Island or Kowloon, but i would prefer something, in the moderate to expensive range, maybe the luxury end of the market as i know you can get savings of 30 - 50%. Thanks in Advance, cheers, Ian

Sky Insurance - best policy, best price, best service
KaoriFan replied to Safely Insured's topic in Club News and Membership
definitely agree, a phone call is the way to go. makes life easier when you talk to people who know what you are on about, rather than clueless. was time for my renewal end of last month, and called them, got excellent deal, very pleased ,even a nice discount as i had the insurance, agreed value, and the breakdown cover too. since i renewed, before my MOT, i then found out my 19inch F1's were done for, so decided to go to 18inch wheels and i did not have to pay any difference for new wheels and tyres. like the holiday insurance cover too, only 90UK i was quoted for excellent package for my vacation abroad. i know Sky are not always cheapest, but i still prefer peace of mind in the long run, with the advantage of agreed value, it saves the worry cheers Ian -
