  1. From a performance point of view it would be a waste of money on a BPU car as long as your SMIC is in decent condition IMO.

    Roll cage

My mate did his Uni dissertation on this very subject. He tested the flex in a car using various methods of stiffness used in motorsport. For example: :: testing it with seam welds only :: testing it with a basic minimalist (chav-esque max power) roll cage :: testing it with mid-range cage :: testing it with a full proper motorsport cage Needless the say the latter was the best option for reducing chasis flex. A roll cage that is welded to the chassis (not bolted in), is welded to the suspension mounts front/rear (ie - going through side of dash into engine bay front mounts) is best. Can't remember the other stuff he mentioned, we only talked about it briefly but I can ask him for more info if you like. The uni asked his permission to keep hold of his disseratation as an example to future students. He's also a car freak, a rally driver (used to have a nice pug 205gti rally car) and he's currently building rally cars (at the moment he is rebuilding an original audi group b quattro rally car).
  3. Jspecs will also have japanese writing on the sun visors
  4. That law was changed earlier this year so they could be hidden again (e.g. painted grey, hidden behind road signs etc).
  5. They don't have to be yellow now
  6. I used to work in a BT call centre whilst I was at uni (paid for the beer!). When you do eventually get through to someone, ask for their full name, and their managers name and contact number (they may not give you the manager info though). This basically put the 'sh*ts' up them and they're more likely to take your call seriously (by that I mean they're likely to put more effort into your query as they dont want their manager on their back...assuming you call their manager to complain). Before you end the call, ask the person to give you an 'issue number' that they should have created on your account to log your call and detail the conversation and action to be taken. This will give you something to reference should you have to call back. Lastly, don't raise your voice and dont be sarky or offensive during the call or else you may find yourself talking to a dial tone, or a foreign speaking operator (a trick I used to much delight). Some of the people working at BT call centres are temp staff (like myself at the time)...and they're not paid enough to take sh*t off customers all day long Good Luck
  7. What make of gauge is it?
  8. I have the 'knackered wheel bearing' drone on my car, it increases/decreases with speed, and is more noticeable on certain road surfaces. I've checked the wheel bearings and they're all fine, no play whatsoever. Checked the Diff oil and thats fine, and as far as I know its a standard Torsen LSD. I reckon its my Jap tyres (Bridgestone Potenza RE-01's) that are making the noise.
  9. I have some english instructions in PDF format if you need. Just PM me an email address, its just over 1mb in size.
  10. Its the UV light that does it. When you make a 'bling' carbon composite, if the gelcoat used is not UV stable, you can add a UV stabaliser, however if you dont mix it well enough, or use enough the gelcoat will go cloudy/milky over time due to UV exposure.
  11. It displays engine RPM, vehicle speed, vehicle acceleration timing (0-100m/200m/400m/100kmh/200kmh/300kmh) and also has a stopwatch (for time trials). I had one on my car but removed it as I never worked out how to use it, not sure if it was setup properly TBH, whether that was due to the speedo conversion or what I dont know...its just blinked away and looked cool, but didnt actually give me anything meaningful so I got rid. I have an ENGLISH manual for it in PDF format if you'd like it (1.1mb in ZIP file). Wouldnt like to guess what its worth.
  12. I'd have thought so, it is damn light!
  13. Sad news. Thoughts go to his family and friends.
  14. Cheers for that. I assume that limits your mapping sessions to dry days only
  15. Out of curiousity, do you map on a dyno Ian or on the road?
  16. You could probably get the supra doors down to around 4kg in carbon fibre using wetlay, which is considerably cheaper than pre-preg (autoclaved) stuff. I guess its down to the person buying them to justify the additional cost of autoclaved composites for the additional weight saving over wetlay composites. I'm basing that on some carbon doors I've done for an Alfa GTV, which are similar to the supra doors in size. The GTV doors where 3.75kg excluding windows and locks.
  17. No, the insurance company paid out (I would rather have done time than paid this person a penny if I had to pay out). At the time of the accident, the pedestrian was 15, and the 3 year 'time limit' to make a claim only starts when you turn 18, so it wasnt till 6 years after the accident happened that I got a solicitors letter through the door. The police apparently destroy their accident reports after 3 years, though thankfully for some reason they still had a partial copy of mine on computer (though it didnt count for sh*t). Obviously after 6 years I didn't remember all the speeds, distances, etc from the day of the accident....so the insurance company settled out of court for 50% of the claim.....£62,500....not a bad earner for being an ignorant prick. Needless to say, this experience left a bitter taste in my mouth.
  18. Also RadTec. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=114689
  19. Glad you missed them mate, I have hit a pedestrian @ 50 on a dual carriageway and they proceeded to do the full monty over the car. It is not an experience I would wish on anyone (driver or pedestrian). They survived to tell the tale, and pocketed over £60 large for their stupidity since police accident reports (which cleared me of all blame) count for shit in court. It took me a month before I'd get back behind the wheel.

I've got a manual myself so can't comment on autoboxes, but I have read on these forums of some supra owners with autoboxes that have had it step-down during a corner in the wet and lost the backend. Doesnt happen often, but it has happened and cost them some money in repairs and new underwear
  22. You can get abrasion resistant coatings on some applications, to give some durability against scratching. Not sure if it would be up to the job of electric windows though as mentioned.
  23. Seriously speak to Paul @ P4P, he is the only company I know of in the UK who can shape polycarbonate to OEM glass shape.
  24. I know Plastics4Performance do Polycarbonate windows, light covers, etc for motorsport. They're based in Bolton, ask for Paul - http://www.plastics4performance.co.uk
  25. Im sure I read recently that Prince Charles made something along the lines of £15 million this year from his investments, he can treat his mum!
