Before I start, you need to take some factors into consideration and these are BHP above stock and driving style (track/road etc) which will have an effect on basestock chosen and/or viscosity as manufacturers recommendations are for stock cars and normal road use. To put it as simply as possible, the more the car is modded or the use is extreme, the more need for either a proper ester/pao synthetic of a slightly thicker oil to give better thermal stability. The Manufacturers book recommendation is for a 10w-40 but of course this could be either mineral oil (lowest quality), semi-synthetic (adequate quality) or fully synthetic ester/pao (top quality/best protection so a sort of better/best situation. It's always best to stay as near to 10w-40 as possible, i.e. 5w-40, 10w-40 or 10w-50 which will be suitable in most cases but bear in mind the following aspects. 5w will give better cold start and short journey protection on a car that is being used on the road. SAE 50 will give more heat tolerance for cars that are running high temps (above 110 degC) so your selection should be based on your driving style and track temperatures if applicable. If you have an oil cooler for example, you can use a 5w-40 and will gain a few extra BHP's through lower oil drag. So, here are my recommendations: Toyota Supra TT 1993 2997cc I6 Short Journeys Completely standard. If it is a TT then we would suggest a 5w-40 synthetic, if it is a big single used in anger then 10w-50 synthetic.
