Bob
Guys, I'm thinking of selling up. There's been a massive recent change of situation - we were planning on emigrating to New Zealand next year and the car was going to come with us. That's now changed, as I'm hunting jobs in Dubai and the Middle-East, and with any luck the missus should be able to get work there as well. Obviously, if everything goes ahead and I can find work overseas then the car will either have to go or be put into storage for long periods, which is less than ideal. As it stands, the car has slightly smokey turbos (BPU), and possibly dodgy stem seals. I've already bought the new stem seals so will probably get them sorted before I sell, along with replacing the timing belt and head gasket. What should I do about the smokey turbos? They're not really that bad, and may well stop smoking if I put the 1st cat back on, but I wouldn't feel comfortable selling the car knowing that the turbos aren't at their best. Also, any recommendations on price? It's a '93 J-spec RZ, cloth front seats, silver, Stillen front bumper, a few very minor dents and stone chips, cat 1 alarm, all the usual stuff. No service history though, just my word that she's had regular oil changes every 4000 miles or less with either Silkolene Pro S or Mobil 1. Would £6k be pushing it? Gaz6002
£6k seems a fair price IMO mate

Havard
6K is a good price for an auto. I applaud the fact that you are trying to get the car in the best possible condition too Bob.... H.
colsoop
£6k seems fair Bob, if you make it known to any potential buyers the state of play then it is down to them if they want to take on the car with the known issues, i don't think you can be any fairer than that. It is quite commendable some would sell it on without a second thought.
Gaz Walker
Very fair Someone in the trade or who knows a mechanic who could get the work done cheap will get a bargain.
edge
Is mobil 1 still in it now. Maybe worth changing back to silk pro 10 as may help reduce the smoking.
Sheefa
Ah no Bob - don't sell! Your car is lovely mate in the flesh. I couldn't notice any/much smoke at all either TBH. I'd say to the VSOS and go from there. As mentioned above, some Silkolene 10w-50 or similar will help reduce the smoking (you already know that ) and I'm sure it'll sell easily for that price! In all fairness a good selling point I think is a car that IS BPU or at least Full Decat. At least you can stress to the buyer that stock cars may have hidden problems masked by the CATs etc, whereas a BPU car that has no signs of smoke has to be a bonus right! Hope it all goes to plan for you and the girlfriend mate, although who's going to help me sort out my smoke machine in the future? She's OK now actually! Good luck. Greg PS: I have some BRAND NEW Silkolene 10-50 5litres available mate that you are welcome to if you want to nip over and do an oil change to see if it helps. Free of charge for all your help - and I'm give you a lending hand of course with the Tea making
Bob
Cheers Greg, I'll definitely take you up on your kind offer if you've still got the oil in July - I'm in Cyprus until then Nothing's definite yet, but I'm flying out to Dubai tomorrow night for 6 days in the hopes of getting some interviews and meeting people; I'll just have to see how it goes
Snooze
Very fair Someone in the trade or who knows a mechanic who could get the work done cheap will get a bargain. You'd think, wouldn't you? But when I was selling my manual TT (and Mark @ Phoenix was personally vouching for the impeccable quality of the car) specialist trade offers were only in the region of £6k for that, which is why I sold private in the end.
