I have had a couple made from the correct material. Threw a small piece of copper pipe at it as hard as i could and it hardly marked it (certainly didn't shatter) so the material should be good for the road.

PROBLEM!! [ANGRY][/ANGRY]:( - the shop who is moulding these cannot give a consistent finish. Any dust particles in the air create pin prick marks on the lense. Very hard to see from afar, but up close you can spot the diffraction through the plastic. On the car it is not even noticable (all the photos in this thread have it), but I know you lot would expect it to look like glass. It is so slight I cannot get a photo of it.

I can't blame the guys doing it as they don't do any clear work, so are not used to such a clean, controlled process requirement. The moulds are top bollox, polished so you can see yourself in them so it's not them that is a problem.

Does anyone on here know of a vacuum forming shop that does clear moulding? I don't want to waste any more time or money tring to get it right with these guys. It is all ready to go, just need someone to mould them?

I am happy with what they have produced so will make my lights anyway:cool: - just i would not be happy to sell them as they are (you know how it is :innocent: ).

I can't give up on it, it would be criminal. I am 90% there, and they do look so good. I will find someone to do it and get them made ASAP. Just won't be end of this week as promised, more like 3 weeks away now.

In the meantime I have a few pairs of prototype lenses I can sell for cost. I think I am making it sound worse than it is as my profession is in the aerospace industry as a quality engineer, so am looking for perfection. If anyone wants a pair at cost i can do these for £30 (with small imperfections, hard to notice once on car).

I'll take a set of the imperfect ones please :)

let me know how to pay

I'll take a set of perfect ones if you get them sorted

( i have a set of spare headlights as well )

Thanks

Steve

That's ideal, if you have a spare set (like I have) you will have time to fiddle with them to make them look really good.

Pictures say a thousand words...............

I will have a proper talk with them tomorrow to see about doing a big run (a few pairs ready for sale already!) P.S. THESE ARN'T TRIMMED YET!!! (middle picture is)

A few still have minute blemishes in them (most are 100% spot on). I have learnt tonight that a bit of polish cuts them out (like 1 or 2 per "bad" lense maybe). With this process this is the best you can expect. The dust marks have all gone now, all that is left is any imperfection or contamination in the original material - which we have no control over.

All in all it looks like a top success. They are very good and I am well chuffed! I have my perfect pair ready for fitment now. I guess I need to post up in group buy to see who is interested (now we know we can do it).

I will wait till mine are on and see if they are MOT legal for pre-facelift before getting GB going.
