No Michael. Negativity won't get you anywhere in life. :)

I was asking for opinions on the tyres as I 'thought' I had found a pair at a damn good price, turned out it was per tyre.

If you've read all 4 pages, you'll see there are mixed reviews about the tyres used on different cars. Some rate the F1s, others the Falken, others rate others etc.

This was a thread to test my rationale behind potentially buying these and also saving my wallet too should I end up *nearly* buying crap tyres. However, it appears the Falkens are very good and I will consider purchasing them for a good price.

Pointless thread, no, has your LATEST contribution on this thread been pointless, yes. ;)

I dont doubt that they are probably are better quality tyre, but how much difference would someone like us, the average car driver notice. Very little I doubt, maybe if you were a top Good Year tyre tester you might, even a proffesional driver/race driver

My point entirely :D :d

You would be AMAZED by what a difference tyres make, and how some makes, with type approval for the UK, are dire, where others are excellent. *USUALLY* price is a great guide, as you neary always get what you pay for. If you can find the European OE tyre for a given car it often pays to stick with that, as a LOT of development has gone into it, and unless you have specialist needs (track days, a large percentage of wet driving, ice and snow, blah blah), they should be an excellent all rounder. Only caveat is tyres have moved on a bit since 93, so the OE tyres may no longer be made.

I still maintain the Goodyear F1 is a great tyre for the MKIV on stock rim sizes and on correct offset 18's, with low noise, good wet and fair dry weather grip, and modest wear, at a reasonable price.

I'm going to try a set next time around, at the prices they come in at you can afford to experiment :)

I have F1s at the moment, they are OK I guess, they didn't amaze me compared to the FK451s I had before them.

I use vredestein ultrac on mine and find they are a lot better than the toyos they replaced wear wise grip wise and they are quieter, also my soops a daily user so it gets used in everything from dry to wet to ice and there fine, good price as well i pay about 110 a tyre for 265/35/18 not to bad as i do about 25k miles a year on them.

Glad to see another convert! :)

As I've said before, I've ran many tyres including a few sets of F1 GSD2's and GSD3's and the Falken FK-452's are superior in both dry and wet weather IMO.

And I don't tend to hang about on a proper country road, dry or wet!

Cheers,

Brian.

Yeah, thanks for the tip Brian. Cant beat good quality and a good price together.

Currently got FK 451's on the rear.... better traction than the Toyos I had on before.

its amazing how different people are, i had Toyo 265 on the rear and got a set of Falken 275 when they wore out, i am not saying the Falkens are crap but on my fave test track and in exactly the same conditions the (bigger) Falkens broke away a lot quicker both in a straight line and corners and in the wet they are a piss poor, i found the Toyos hung on a lot longer and when they did let go it was much more progressive (and predictable)than the Falken, i wont be buying Falken again

Falkens are pretty decent.

The only thing I have noticed is that the Falken's always look one size smaller than what they actually are, in comparison to other brands, so a 275/30/19 Falken will actually look as wide as 265/30/19 Goodyear.

That's true, the Eagle F1's do seem to fill out the wheels more. I've 275 Falkens on the rear on mine but looks like 295's would fit.

Just for reference the tyres are mine. I don't think the listing is ambigous at all. It clearly says quantity 2 and seriously, you expect two tyres and delivery for £75? They aren't stolen you know they're brand new.

I'm only looking to get some money back on what i paid for them before Mertoc was written off. Interesting you were such a loud mouth in the emails that went back and forward. if i was such a nob i could have held you to the sale you legally contracted to

I even emailled you to say you do realise that the price is per tyre and did you just want one so your side of the event is pretty poor.

Questions answered super fast and thanks to you messing about/not reading the ad properly etc i've had to relist them but basically the ad is the same, i have two for sale, the quantity listed is two the price is each, it really isn't that tricky. I've made it clearer in the listing though. Good feedback appreciated, sad unnesscessary slagging on this board not apprecaited thank you very much.

Sorry dude, but I checked your advert agin and it is very ambiguous. Im not saying I would expect to buy to tyres for that price, but if I was browsing on Ebay and spotted that advert and thought this looks lile a deal, I would be very disappointed and felt misleaded, as your title clearly states 2x, and in the description it says "complete replacement for 1 axle", ie 2 tyres, and in fact I cant see anywhere where you actually state the £75 is per tyre.

Its people like you that I hate using Ebay, and Im thanfull he came on here and warned people........

And I think you yourself knew the advert was slightly misleading otherwise you wouldnt have said this.....

A: No worries. Price is per tyre just in case that isn't clear. No shit sherlock, its not clear...

I was being polite - not clear for those that don't read properly.

I don't advertise a lot so there you go. I had a question asked about it and i replied and posted in the listing so that people knew what it was.

It also clearly says 2 available in the quantity. The advert doesn't say 4 tyres, it ain't a great leap of logic i just wanted to give people the option of getting one if they wanted to. Most sellers seem to sell individually so i copied what was there already.

I've revised the listing this time - helpful criticism fine. Slagging off because you didn't read properly and/or couldn't be bothered to ask? Not fair.

I was nothing but polite to greg and as i said i actually sent him the note to say it was per tyre before he even asked me!!! Yeah i'm a real con artist. On the other hand i could be just someone that doesn't sell on ebay that often. With my massive 14 stars.

EDIT: Here's he re;list from last night before i saw this thread- note inclusion that price is per tyre - what a del boy i am i mean really. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190066933139&rd=1&rd=1

so at the moment i have the continental 295/30/zr19 and its perfect fit not strretched, if i was to put a 285/30/zr19 f1 tyre on the rear will this give me more clearance on the arch and stretched the tyre slightly?, becuase i found out yesturday that the 295 continental is like having a 315 as different tyres vary

Martin, I'm sorry but another buyer (MK47 see page 3) had the SAME problem in respect to this and you clearly failed to rectify it after he too was misled. You should state that the price is per tyre, but you NEVER did that in the original listing. Wow, you put 2 in the quantity box, but that could mean anything and people rarely look at that anyway.

Now you've changed it to read properly and cut out the confusion, thanks. However, with only 14 feedback, don't start getting on your high horse about selling properly etc.

You dealt with the matter perfectly Martin and thank you for doing so, but you could of easily prevented it in the first place by using a bit of damn common sense.

Thanks anyway and all the best.

Greg

From the original ebay ad I would have guessed that you were selling 2 lots of 2xtyres, I've not looked since it's been updated though.

Thank you Thorin. Correct. That's exactly what I thought, 2 sets per axle. Plus, OK £75 was cheap, but isn't ebay a bargain hunt anyway and you can still pick up good deals Martin! :)

What high horse? My point was i have only got 14 feedback in about 3 years, i think i sold one other item through ebay so i'm hardly a pro and as such i don't think i deserved the slagging and the name calling i got from you on this board.

As you say i dealt with it perfectly, i only had one question on these tyres and one on the other, both answered honestly and i posted the question to the public so people could see it. I actually tried to alter the listing once you had queried it but it was too late to do so and Ebay wouldn't let me.

As for people not checking, really that bit isn't my fault is it? Unfair to blame me for people not reading the listing.

With your feedback, and because i had several people interested but didn't want one tyre i have relisted but you buying the one item has actually cost me money. Didn't see me coming on here slagging you off about that did you?

Its fine if you felt it was misleading, comments on board, but the rest of your reaction - on this board was below the belt and wasn't called for.

If you had also used a "bit of damn common sense" you'd have asked the question before buying and as with everyone i would have answered honestly. Faults all round i think except i didn't resort to name calling. And yes it is a bargain hunt although i find that most things on there aren't due to postage which is why i said postage free.

Thanks,

m.

Appreciated - that has clearly been the problem although i had quite a few watchers and only one question on it for both listings.

The other lot went off fine and courier ordered for monday.

Still good value at this price as delivery is costing me at least 20 quid so i am losing on what i paid for them already. Worst con artist in the world me, ripping myself off! :search:

Well I appreciate you coming here and defending yourself, and I apologise as my post was probably a little harsh. Im not saying your con artist, or did it intentially, but Ebay is all to full of these type of adverts these days..........

Not being funny, but why would you loose money on tom, dick and harrys behalf. If people want it then they can have it at the price that you dont have to loose out on.........

Anway didnt mean to upset anyone or start a war so I apologise for my initial post.........

Accepted thanks. I hardly use Ebay because of all the scams. I find the claims for postage just silly and the amount of things you see 'lost in the post' is amazing but i didn't get any offers from members when i put 'em in parts for sale so ebay was the only option.

Basically need to sell them as there were four tyres and at the sizes the supra takes they are actually blocking off a bedroom. Obviously i'd have preferred someone in Scotland to take them as it means more cash but i can't be charging £90 for them or limiting myself to Scotland as there isn't a huge market for off sized tyres up here.

So i'm posting the 255's to london and i'll send the Falken's anywhere UK mainland if needed. Just how it is. Be sticking a few other things up too although the lights have gone to mkiv members so that's good.

cheers,
