Rayman - Was on the Midlands Gumball mate in August. Went round a long right hand corner following another 2 supras, was only doing about 25-30mph, felt it bite a little, managed to regain it, auto box then changed down, revs kicked in and it span 180 degrees up onto the verge.

 

Hi sheef, i was in front of you that day, it was a dodgey corner anyway, i think i went through @ around 40 with no issues, i dont think even rlt would have done much for you tho if you wernt actualy accelerating around the bend.I would get the geometry looked at, that can make a big difference with handling, look forward to a trackday next year, i will let you know when we are booking 1.

I once had a accident, some minicab driver hit me from behind at about 30mph......On my sup you could not even see the damage, the bumper never cracked or anything, the licence plate fell off and there were a few scratches, the impact bar was bent and needed replacing, but that was the only thing and you could not see it from outside.....the other car A 1996 HONDA ACCORD, was totally smashed from the front, grill, radiator, lights, bumper the lot....I was well happy and felt re assured in my supra...I have the pictures somewhere I will see if I can put them up...

Very good idea Pete.

 

Let's get a rough date in the diary. April time or a little earlier?

 

Would be great to meet the lads and girls again and have a true initiation ceremony with the sup!

 

For £99 you can count me in, nice warm up before heading to the Nurburgring :)

Tom (Ahh Aristo) is planning on organising it all once the 'public day' dates come out early next Spring I think. It will probably go very quite for a few months and then there'll seemingly be a big rush to sort it all out but there WILL be something happening - I'm certainly going back and I know a few others are planning the same. :)

That does not always mean driving slowly, just looking well ahead and anticipating the road. I'm sure "Class One" and any other advanced drivers know what I mean, if you do not i hope your insurance is good.

 

Good post, it amazes me that so many drivers only pay any attention to the car immediately in front of them (or in fact just the area 10ft in front of their car!), and don't put any thought into anticipating what may happen on the road up ahead (junctions, blind bends etc.).

 

And as RedM posted (and others), smoothness is the key, and not still braking while you're turning into the bend!

Bit of a morbid thread, its almost as if you are expecting to crash :(

 

I think the crash has made you a bit worried and you have lost your confidence.

 

Once you get back behind the wheel you will be fine, you realised it can bite and will hopefully have learnt from this and altered how you drive.

I saw the re-run of the top gear episode where they were showing crashed cars that had done the ncap test - 40mph head on into a concrete block... the brake pedal coming through the floor and the steering wheel coming up into the chest - easy way to fracture your legs / knee damage and rib fractures... scary stuff... at only 40mph...

 

I have no doubt the sup is a strong car - look at chiefgrovers pics - horrendous (glad he was ok)..

and have a look at my garage - there is a good upside down one there - but has anyone had a full head on in a sup, and what did it look like (pedal positions and A pillar) afterwards?

 

It would be curious to know how it fares agains some of the modern ncap winners. A bit of a morbid subject, but it may prove helpful if the results are bad!

Yip, they are strong, but I think well enhanced by airbags.

A supercar they are, so they need supercar tyres and servicing.

I had a bad experience or two with not so good geometry settings. Having the RRHS wheel out of camber and toe meant it would breakaway in the wet with NO warning whatsoever. Some people think I rave on too much about geometry, but I almost got wiped a few time when it was badly set, and having seen the confidence I could have with a well setup car, my safety was 100% better.

I would personally recommend every member take this subject seriously, and get a good setup. Visit to CW?

p.s. too much neg camber is a nightmare on the greasy roads at the moment.

Thanks guys and good to hear from you Bignum mate - long time no speak! It was a dodgy corner.

 

Colin - I think you're right. I have lost my confidence in the Sup and I am scared of a repeat incident. That's not to say I'm a shit driver, or inexperienced, but yes I am with these cars. We'll see how I go when I get her back.

 

Anyone know who specialises in Geometry settings then? Does Chris Wilson?

there was a guy who had a head on with a golf not long ago and posted pics i'll have a search...........btw everyone walked away i think.......
