Lewis
Guys/Girls/Confused/Doug.......... I have been watching with dis-interest the way which the club has been going of late. Arguments one week, rod of iron leaving people scared to say anything the next. I mean FFS I am now told that calling a 'repost' will get you a verbal kicking. As most of you know, I speak my mind and I do tread on toes now and again but I have never needed moderation to help me resolve my arguments, I have spoken to the member off-piste and resolved it with them like an adult. Not only do I *feel* like the average age (and spelling ability level) has dropped to about 12, I also feel that the level of moderation has now risen to "dad" level (one before hitler). I don't think it is any of the new mods fault, I simply think that they are finding their feet, I had thought that when the new mods came in it was to relieve some of the pressure on the existing mods, now there are so many that there does not seem to be enough work for anyone. I have decided that for the time being I will take some time away from the forum. I may and probably will post the odd random post now and again during the day but that's about it for now. No idea how long for, maybe until lunchtime, maybe a year, I dunno. You all have my contact details I think, if not then just ask. I will miss a lot of teh fun and pi$$ taking but it seems that a lot of the newer members don't get it and instead sit there crying until mr. mod comes and wipes the tears away and punishes the naughty members. Just my 2p, I don't expect or want any agreement/disagreement in what I have said, I am just explaining my reasons for taking a back seat. I will still happily help in any way I can with the events for my area, if anyone feels they need any help or support in that (or any other respect) then please do give me a shout. Cheers and peace out. Pete
Can someone please ban him for suggesting he's not going to be around? I know how you feel Lewis, just limit the dross you read and focus on the interesting posts. It's amazing how much better it becomes when you don't try to read everything. Any thread with more than 20/30 posts in a day gets ignored. Try it! Also think about what you're posting. The number of times of written something out and then not posted is amazing just recently. I know the post my be misconstrued or cause an arguement I can't be arsed to follow - so I delete it.

Lewis Thanks and the utmost respect to (but not limited to) Jake, michael, class one, pete, paul e, lucifer, terry, mig, matt, charlotte, mike, mawby, rosie and countless others. i know we have rarely talked much on forum, but i agree with pretty much everything you say. sometimes it does feel like walking on broken glass wondering if you will say the wrong thing to the wrong person, or you will get an infraction (which should be violation or infringement, anyway), or a ban for something. we are all adults here, and really i can't see why things have come to this stage. i am not technically gifted when it comes to any car, but i have learnt a lot from many on forum, including you as well. really would be a shame if you decide to take a longer leave from forum. hope it is just a short time. many will miss you being around. personally, i don't see what all the fuss about 'learning to be a moderator' is all about. if you are a mod you should be 100% up to speed on your first day. i was and so was everyone else i know. not sure why it is different here. no excuse for being a 'new mod' imo, moderators are chosen as they can do the job from day one, simple as that. if there are disputes, we are all adults and should be able to sort them out ourselves. but i have noticed quite a few personal attacks recently. personally, if those 'racist threads' had been sorted at the time, i don't think any of what's going on today would have been needed. we could have just carried on with the banter, car help, and just hanging out like always. good to know you will still be around in one way or the other, and still helping everyone if needed. really hope you reconsider, and stay in forum, you have many friends here and it's not worth letting some of the 'stuff' that goes on affect that. anyways, thats all i have to say, all the best Ian

MaveriK
StEaLtH, it would be a shame to see you go buddy, apart from the calling me gay for half an hour in chat your an ok guy for a techy With regards to the forum i think things are getting out of hand, i have only been here a year or so but the doom and gloom is getting us all down. I dont think the forum members are to blame ( I include the mods) its just life in general that has changed. Too easily due to lifes pressures i am quick to go on the defensive at peoples throw away comments, a few months/years back i would have laughed it off. I try to step away from the keyboard now before venting my lower intestines at peoples comments. We have a good club with a well rounded membership, pretty much any question you ask in here can be answered. Yes, a few of us are assholes but thats life! ChrisSZ
As a comparative newbie (been here for about 8 months now) I don't see what the fuss is personally. I've yet to see any truly offensive comments (seen a few unnecessary ones mind you). I know the mods need to try and keep some sort of order but surely people won't be busted for posting "repost"? It's a forum tradition isn't it? (not just here but on ALL forums) - a litle like when someone starts to tell a joke and you interrupt them with "Heard it!":) As to the general level of posters - unfortunately I think that the 'decline' is only to be expected - these cars aren't quite as exclusive as they used to be:( (that's how I managed to afford one at last) but isn't it up to the older, wiser (?) members to guide the newbies and teach them the ways of the forum? There have been some very interesting (and sometimes a little heated) discussions on here and I sincerely look forward to reading plenty more (as well as the tec. info and bargains to be picked up) :) With much respect, peace out:) ChrisSZ

Yes, a few of us are assholes but thats life! i have noticed how things are changing in the online world, IRC was buzzing a year ago, but many have moved on, and channels are nothing like they used to be. i do think a bit of engage brain first, before hitting the 'return' key would help in some cases. no singling anyone out btw. general comment. someone in another thread a while ago, said would half the stuff written in forum, be said to someone's face, it does make you wonder. in a way, we are all to blame, for letting things get this far. some of the worst things said (the racist comments) should have been killed at the time. then we would need hardly any moderating or control these days, club would be fine, and everyone still here and active. online, the best form of moderation is self-moderation
tbourner
Maybe we need an 'anything goes' thread, where no moderation will take place (in NWS obviously). You'd have to avoid it if you were easily offended though.

mikeyb10supra
there should be a group function where you can setup group chats with people.......like a chat room then the so only those in there can reply, so for example I could setup one with me jake, pete, gaz walker, terrt S, Matt H for example, and it stays saved so only those members can chat in that room, they can invite others etc and remove people as they go?? mawby
I have been watching with dis-interest the way which the club has been going of late. Arguments one week, rod of iron leaving people scared to say anything the next.Slightly out of context I think. You should have said "Arguments one week WHICH RESULTS IN rod of iron...". Therefore if people want to be left alone and treated like adults, maybe they should start behaving like them. I mean FFS I am now told that calling a 'repost' will get you a verbal kicking. Are you telling me that the club has gone down hill because of the lack of pointless "RE"....."PO"....."ST"...... replies of late? Are you serious? People can still call repost on a thread, what I am trying to stop is the same ten people who spot a repost and so all decide to reply with the above or just "REPOST". Who cares if it's a repost? I don't. Nine times out of ten when I'm reading a repost thread it's actually the first time I've read it as I missed the original. Not only do I *feel* like the average age (and spelling ability level) has dropped to about 12, I also feel that the level of moderation has now risen to "dad" level (one before hitler).I think this is slightly unfair to be honest. Statistically, given the increase in members and the increase in the sheer number of posts we have these days, the level of moderation has been continually decreased. The problem seems to be that the same people cause problems and so those same people keep getting moderated, and those same people seem to think it's big and clever to jump up and down making lots of fuss about it, which in turn MAKES it look like there's suddendly lots of moderation going on when there isn't. Has anyone thought that if people didn't keep pushing their luck then the moderators wouldn't have to do anything? Maybe when someone posts up saying "I got this infraction, it's unfair" everyone else should just ignore them instead of treating them like some martyr against the evil moderators who, I might add, where made moderators after numerous complaints about this place being under moderated! I don't think it is any of the new mods fault, I simply think that they are finding their feet, I had thought that when the new mods came in it was to relieve some of the pressure on the existing mods, now there are so many that there does not seem to be enough work for anyone.Good, and so there shouldn't. I'd love for the moderators to come on here every day and only have to deal with "Can you sticky this thread please" requests rather than having to moderate people. I have decided that for the time being I will take some time away from the forum. I may and probably will post the odd random post now and again during the day but that's about it for now. No idea how long for, maybe until lunchtime, maybe a year, I dunno. So I take it I can remove you from the events moderators list then? We need events moderators who are active on the forum and are in enjoying the club, no point having an events moderator who thinks the club is going down hill and wants some time out away from it. I will miss a lot of teh fun and pi$$ taking but it seems that a lot of the newer members don't get it and instead sit there crying until mr. mod comes and wipes the tears away and punishes the naughty members. The fun and piss taking is all good and well when both parties are aware of it. Unfortunately the piss taking often goes too far, and becomes people insulting each other to the point that threats are being made. Surely you can't think this is good for the club? Thanks and the utmost respect to (but not limited to) Jake, michael, class one, pete, paul e, lucifer, terry, mig, matt, charlotte, mike, mawby, rosie and countless others.lol, if I was to copy the sort of behaviour we're trying to get rid of, I'd now start f**king swearing at you for what looks like tacking a couple of moderators onto the end of your list just to make your post seem more balanced. personally, i don't see what all the fuss about 'learning to be a moderator' is all about. if you are a mod you should be 100% up to speed on your first day. i was and so was everyone else i know. not sure why it is different here. no excuse for being a 'new mod' imo, moderators are chosen as they can do the job from day one, simple as that. That is because on most forums a moderator could make a decision without the whole club feeling like they have to have their say in the matter. I have yet to see any decisions that the new moderators have made which have been without-a-doubt wrong. Some people agree with them, some people don't, and as is normally the case it's those that disagree that kick up the most fuss. So, having received complaints that threads should not be moderated but the people causing the problem should be instead, and having implemented loads of changes to try and support this, you guys are now complaining that people shouldn't be moderated either. Where do we draw the line people? I have read all the posts regarding how c**p it is here nowadays, and I have tried to implement all the suggestions that people have made, but you are still not happy. So what should I do? Someone tell me please as I'm really getting sick of this. You'll notice there's a lack of super moderators around at the moment. Why do you think that is? Because they're had enough of always being criticised and having people constantly agruing every time a moderator does anything. If the "repost" and "use the search" rules have caused such a deterioration in the quality of the club, then I revoke those rules. I will now go through and revoke any infractions given to people for those rules too. So feel free to REPOST as much as you like. And to anyone who says "You never moderated enough before and things were left to long and got out of hand, but now you moderate too quickly" just have a think. Moderators are not slaves to the forum 24 hours a day. We are not sitting here pressing refresh on a thread just waiting for that moment when it over steps the mark. Previously we would look at a thread that looked like it was going to cause trouble, and we'd leave it until it did. You lot didn't like that, complaining that certain threads should have been dealt with sooner. So now we are trying to stop troublesome threads and posts and deal with them before people feel the need to complain, and now that's not acceptable either! Moderation is never going to be perfect. If the club wants to pay me enough that I can quit my job and moderate here 24/7, then I would try to moderate it as perfectly as I could. Until such a time I think people should be a little more respectfull of the moderators decisions and start trying to live with those decision instead of always complaining about them. So if you have another suggestion about what we are doing wrong or how we could improve, then please tell me about it. But please don't just jump on the anti-moderation bandwagon unless you have something useful to say that might help us improve things.
