I'm sure it's not quite so black and white guys. He'll have a very specialist team looking after him and they will know exactly what is going on. Everybody's situation is completely unique.

Sounds like he's a fighter though, he's bound to show some improvement in time :)

Ok we've just got back. No amount of laughing joking and threats of me removing my clothes would bring him round. The lad I visited with has just nipped home on my back but when he comes back we're gonna pop back to the hospital. More of your messages are being printed to take over.

His parents obviously appreciate your comments... the ones we printed off first time were covered in tears!

EDIT: The last time we visited Karl he was given two hours to live! He's proved all the medical staff wrong

when they say give up hope, they dont mean they'll stop feeding him the parents have to make that decision i think :( they just mean he may not come round.

And my friend who i mentioned earlier was in coma for 5months and was like Karl responded to light and breathed on his own. Im not sure of the exact details but i dont think they removed any brain they just cut him open and left his scalp open to release pressure. Good luck mate you can pull through!

I know this may sound bad but maybe play the noise of a car accelarating away down a drag strip, he will of listened to loads of noises like that and may trigger something to make him react :)

Ah MRSA, as provided courtesy of the NHS.

Not impressed with that comment at all!! I work for the NHS in a hospital and i know for a fact that around 90% of the patients that come into hospital have MRSA anyway, the facts are very misleading. Most of us talking on here now will have it on our bodies the trouble is they only test for it when you are ill in hospital, so it looks like everyone catches it there, but thats not true. MRSA itself CANNOT kill anyone or do them any harm. Its just that if it gets into an open wound, or an already existing chest infection, then it can be a bugger to shift and make the symptoms last longer. So in Karls case i reckon he has developed a chest infection (so common on ICU you wouldnt believe just because they arent breathing for themselves) and has MRSA in it.

It really pi$$es me off the way people go on about how shit the NHS is and how we give everyone MRSA and kill em all off when this is just not the case. The feking media are to blame for misleading everyone. They only ever report on the bad cases and the millions of other people who's life we change in a positive way every day!!

Sorry for the rant, i really hope Karl pulls through, its good news that he is off sedation and his eyes are reponding to light, its also great news hes off the ventilator, all positive signs. im sure he will come round soon.

Ive just finished a stint on ICU actually today and was thinking of Karl.

I'm still thinking of you Karl, I hope you realise how much a part of this community you are. If I'm honest I was wondering about you a couple of weeks back, thinking I hadn't seen any posts of your most recent car.

Keep fighting, and I hope to see you back in the fold soon matey.

All the best wishes to you.

My best wishes go to Karl's family too, this must be a very stressful period for them, with all the improvements Karl has made, and still facing the prospect that it might not have been enough. Keep your spirits up, you are doing everything you can, and from the sounds of it Karl is doing the best he can too. We are all praying for you all.

Steve, you are an excellent ambassador for this club, I would like to hope that in a similar situation I would be able to do half as much as you have.

Also as mentioned countless times above, I am so proud to be a member of this club, the reaction and messages of support are unbelievable, we should all be very proud. Count me in for whatever we decide to do. Maybe we could also organise a collection at JAE on his behalf.

All the best Karl

Mike

You are one of the unsung heros of this world. Doing that job day in day out takes a very strong person. I'm ashamed with myself that I didn't realise this until now

Not really man, im just a physio. We just monitor their chest, make sure they keep as much activity and muscle tone in their limbs as possible so that when they come to get out of bed( WHich we also do with them) they have as much chance as possible. The ICU nurses are incredible. So well trained and IMO the best nurses around. Oh yeah the doctors aint bad either.

It is bad news about the Dr's report and the fact that he still isnt waking up though. COme on Karl.
