Mk4Gaz
If it's a single turbo, there's a high probability it used to be a twin turbo
gordy.r
Hey guys just a quick one.. Can you convert the single turbo into a twin turbo ?? Thanks Sam Nice first post.... No introduction? If you give a little more info on the car people may be able to help you out a bit more, but for what it's worth, anything can be converted to anything, but it all depends on whether it's a GE lump or GTE etc.
Guest sammynicks
Well I'm looking at getting a supra as it is the car of my dreams, however the 3.0 tt 6 speed is a bit out of my price range so I was wandering if anybody knew if there was a cheaper way to get the same result Thanks Sam
gordy.r
I'm guessing you think you'll get more power with a twin turbo over the single turbo....? Am I right?
Guest sammynicks
No mate not necessarily it's just the fact I've always been drawn to the tt's I'm a mechanic by trade so I know my stuff when it comes to cars however this is s bit too specialised for me and was just asking a few questions before I brought one Thanks Sam
gordy.r
Ok, a little look in the FAQ's section should cover most of your questions, but if you have anything specific then feel free to ask away as the knowledge base on here is really good. When you say can a single turbo be converted to a TT, it can but it's not a common conversion as most people convert from TT to Single. And if a 3.0 TT 6 is a bit out of your price range, a Single 6 speed manual will be similar money or more! - - - Updated - - - A Pre facelift TT auto can be picked up for good money just now, but prices are on the rise. Nic
Hey guys just a quick one.. Can you convert the single turbo into a twin turbo ?? Thanks Sam The MKIV Supra was factory fitted with 2 engine options, either the naturally aspirated 3L 2JZGE or the Twin Turbo 3L 2JZGTE. So asking 'Can you convert the single turbo into a twin turbo' makes no sense. Edited January 15, 2015 by Nic (see edit history)

Ric
You could, but it would be very expensive and time consuming, you'd be much better just doing a N/A TT Conversion, or just buy a TT in the first place. You can get TT autos for 4-7k upgrade to 6 speed at a later date if you really want too A NA>TT conversion will cost you around 3-4k for all the bits etc much cheaper to just buy a TT in the first place
abtin90
If it's a TT your after your always better off saving and waiting for the right car to come along. There's always going to be a lot of hassle and unexpected expenses when it comes to converting an NA to a TT.

pedrosixfour
You can convert the non-turbo GE to a single turbo. It is called the NA-T & good for somewhere in the region of 450-500bhp if done correctly.

A lot of hassle involved and when you factor in the cost of a 6 speed conversion you do not really ended up saving much. My NA-T made 546bhp however if I was to do it again I would buy a clean BPU TT6 with UK Brakes etc to start with.
JackyBoi
You have to think about what you want to end up with. If by the end you want a single turbo 800bhp+ beast, then I'd say keep your money where it is until you have enough for a Twin Turbo 6 speed (10k will get you a nice one.) Or if you're not looking for a monster and can't wait any longer to buy a Supra, then go with a TT auto or an N/A, but just remember both of these routes are more expensive than getting a TT6 straight off the bat because the 6 speed conversion is very costly
