Where would the best place be to install a after market temp gauge?

 

The gauge?

 

On the dash somewhere in front of you.

 

Now the temp sensor is a whole different matter.:innocent:

 

Mine is in the top water pipe to the radiator, which is handling water straight from the block. As far as I know.

 

A sensor screwed into the block may be more accurate but I doubt by much.

Sorry to hear of your trouble mate. Unfortunately you are learning the hard way that you need to be very careful who you take these cars to. Who installed the matrix and thermostat for you? It would appear to me that the blame lies with them at this moment in time.

Well it would appear that circle is now broken.

 

I don't trust anyone in Scotland with my car. I've been to a few places over the years and although they are very competent at what they know, they will always claim to be experts in the things they dont (which I found out the hard way also).

 

This is the reason I do all my own work now, I'm not paying someone to learn to do a job on my car that I can learn to do myself. All the Supra specialists are down south, unfortunate for us but if you want a job done properly then a visit to Jurgen is your best bet (unrelated to him supplying the car, he's just the closest to us).

With my car I have never taken it to a garage round me, there just aren't the specialist Supra garage's (that I am aware of). I have travelled to Chris Wilson, John at Austec did most of the work on it last time (Manchester to past London was a PITA). The car is currently with Jurgen for more mods as I would rather travel to someone I trust, and he has always seen me right with the car.

 

Sounds like it's just bad luck mate, sure it will be sorted soon and you will start to enjoy it again. My car kept blowing the indicator fuses, which started to annoy the hell out of me, especially when blipping the alarm would blow multiple fuses and set the siren off. Ended up being a tiny split in a wire rubbing on the bodywork...

mechanic can do this, i did mine with a mechanic who's never touched a supra in his life and all was fine.

 

Not all mechanics take the same care with jobs as others. I know of a lot of heavy handed mechanics who take on a job and end up making a huge mess of things and then they arrive with me and I end up having to take a long time putting things right.

Firet thing i'd do is look to see where all the water came from, has a matrix hose come off or split.

 

It should be pretty obvious whats happened and if its just the hose thats come off push it back on

and tighten up the hose clip, possibly fit new hose clips.

If the hose has split then get a new one from toyota including new clips and fit it.

 

Then just refill your rad and run the car up to operating temp with the heater on full hot, do this with

the rad cap off and keep topping the rad up as the air bubbles out, when the air stops coming out

put the cap on and fill the expansinon tank to approx half full.

Check the heater is hot and its job done unless you have a bigger issue involving

more major parts.

IMO yes you do, or at least someone who has some sort of understanding of the Supra. The fact that you did it with him was most likely the reason it all went swimmingly, you know your car and how to tell when it has been bled properly. Over the years I've had my Supra at 3 mechanics, all very competent at what they do, but each time I have gotten the car back I have had to fix something that has been done wrong or not done at all.

 

There are VERY few, what I would consider, competent mechanics in the trade. Of the ones I do know I still wouldn't trust them with my Supra.... my Mondeo or focus, no problem.

Which water pipe has blown off. Usually the 1st to go is the lower pipe from the pump to the rad.

The temp gauge will not have mover just because of an airlock. Toyota make the gauge range on the temp gauge huge so the car looks more reliable than it is. It wonr start moving until atleast 120 degrees.

 

Supra engines are a nightmare to bleed off fully, if your not used to doing it then I could take you hours. It does sound like an airlock to me dude. As said before, supra engines are VERY tough. Even though it looks like a whole lot of mess right now, odds are its going to be a quick fix, just the cost of a couple of tubs of coolant.

And sadly the trade has a huge amount of them these days.

 

Your not wrong there Matrin, I've came across numerous nightmare cars some from top tuning shops (none who are traders on here I must add). These companies call themselves specialists. And if a bloke in his garage at home with nothing but hopes n dreams is producing better quality of work than these so called specialists then there's something sadly wrong.

 

On a better note, I'm sure Jurgen will help you through all these issues dude, he's a good bloke and takes pride in his business.
