True but potentially more clued up on their value

And that will influence the insurers how?

I'm sorry to sound harsh mate but as I said earlier, this is a site full of owners with a vested interest. Some of whom value their cars so unrealistically it is beyond a joke. Again I repeat, it will be what the insurers think and not what you say your "mates" reckon.

I'd be going for £15k on this with an agreed valuation, It's only worth what the insurance company will agree to or what someone will pay. For this very purpose I've been keeping a record of the price all UK specs that go to market are advertised at, good standard UK TT6's are advertised at £14-17k whether this full amount is achieved on overseas sales I wouldn't know but I had to part with £14k (well less the good deal I got for part-exing a knackered 13 year old jag) to secure my UK TT6 back in October.

I don't think it's just the registration issue in Europe which contributes to the value of the UK cars over the imports, there is also the matter of the running costs, as I plan to keep the car long term it will pay for itself in what I save on insurance premiums, my cheapest quote for a jap import was £1,500 yet I pay just £650 for the UK car.

No harm in aiming high, just means the premiums may be a little more if someones willing to provide the cover.
