Axle
Opinions wanted on how credible these test's may be...>>> http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ Also does anyone know if the Apexi can flow enough for over 800 BHP? I've searched and searched and can't seem to find any figures on what applications the Apexi or others would be suitable for. Other then the K and N which i'd rather replace for something a little neater.
JamieP
Flow rate will depend on the size of the filter, what size is the inlet on your turbo? 800bhp is about the change over point from 4" to 5" inlet on the size of turbo you need to make that power, do apexi make big 4" and 5" cone filters? Dnk
Not sure where they get £200 from for the Apexi. The test done is pretty basic but i've no reason to doubt it's results. I can't comment on if there good for 800 hp but my 400 hp tt runs fine on the Apexi, i'd guess 800 would require a bigger surface area so as long as you got a bigger cone then i can't see why it wouldn't. Axle
Oh yes good point. 4inch inlet. Does no one do a decent looking air filter for running big power, the K & N ones look naff.
Dnk
The Apexi dual cone looks like it only comes in 65 75 & 85 mm bore sizes
Axle
Apparently so. Perhaps i am stuck with my lame looking K & N that does the job it should. Meh.
spikedjack
All that is a load of old tosh imo, most filters have been revamped now, and the HKS doesnt even use the same element for that reason
Swampy442
Lol looks tosh, its function over form mate. Put it in an airbox, job done
Nic
All that is a load of old tosh imo, most filters have been revamped now, and the HKS doesnt even use the same element for that reason although I'd still not use one of the new HKS filters. If you're bothered by appearance there's these, although not sure how they'll cope with 800hp Pipercross Viper Blitz Sonic Power http://www.blitz-uk.co.uk/images/products/productimages/hires/Sonic_P1.jpg
ubersonic
Opinions wanted on how credible these test's may be...>>> http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ About as credible as the Simpson's lawyer... Put simply its nonsense, the power gains were measured by repeatedly dyno'ing an already modified MKIII Supra 1JZ-GTE and swapping the filters, and the filtration test was done by duct taping the filter to the end of a henry vacuum cleaner then throwing a cup of dirt at it, so obviously the HKS and the Blitz did the worst as they let air in from the front whereas the K&N and Apexi filters only let it in from the sides. Since that "test" was done in 1999 Apexi have redesigned their filter and HKS has changed the make-up of their element to a 3 layer one. For those interested heres a link to the original article including the 5th (SARD) filter used in the test: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/1/
Axle
Lol looks tosh, its function over form mate. Put it in an airbox, job done Not sure i can get an airbox to fit mate. Don't think anyone does an airbox for a single Turbo Supra. Which is a shame as the standard airbox with high flow element is no doubt more efficient. The Sonic power ones look good but not sure they will cope with the power. I am not bothered enough by the looks to jeopardise efficiency/power over looks, but it would have been nice to have discovered one which was capable of both. Just the K&NJ filter does not do much to inspire an engine bay i wish to 'clean up'.
