barneybrendan
My daughter is now taking her driving lessons ,so i am looking at getting her a little car later. If anybody has been in this position rescently what cars did they end up getting that was reasonable to insure.Just tried a nissan micra for her and that came back at around the £2.5k mark.Really need to find something no more than £1000 insurance. Josh
How are you insuring it? I was just a named driver for the first 2 years. Not the right way to do it and I missed out on 2 years NCB but it was only about £1,200 on a 1.2 Clio.
welshbuddy
ford KA's are pretty cheap to insure and girly! suprisingly cars like corsas, saxo, pugeots are expensive for young drivers, due to alot of people crashing them. Try a car that aint popular?, or even put you down as a named driver , bring it down a bundle + shes gets her NCB =]

Get her something no other young people tend to drive.

welshbuddy
Clio,fiesta,corsa,106 all those sorts are perfect for first drivers alot of them get crashed though. thats why the high prices, its cost me more to insure my N/A than a twin turbo, due to more people crashing N/A!, weird ! Tyson
Ford ka as has been said. My sisters first car was a corsa, I'd stick with something reliable as it will pay off in the long run. She only paid £1000 fully comp.

Josh
forget 106 that was silly quotes even for the bottom of the range one. I checked prices on the Clio I used to own and at the moment it'd cost me £600 to insure (22, no NCB as they're on the Supra) but I'm only paying £360 on the P reg Fiesta (1.3) I just bought. Try a few sites, i find Admiral are cheap they insured the Supra for £290 with the wife on the policy as well.

LOGIE
suzuki swift or as already said a non turbo starlet. I think early shape Rav 4,1995-00,3 door are ment to be cheap to insure even though they are a 2000cc, group 6 i think. snow will never be an issue either, I have one as a runabout. Awisto
I brought my Nephew a 1L 2002 Suzuki Swift, cheap as chips to buy, reliable and easy to work on. Cheaper to insure than the normal corsas etc but he's still got to pay in the region of £2k

Our 53' plate golf has 174k on it already If buying a 1998-2003 era VW be careful if it's 5-door, the locks are pants and my god was it a fun job to remove and replace a dead-bolted rear door lock mech!
