  1. If a dealer were advertising this car, it would be £12-£14k, and it would sit there for months - they're in no rush to sell. To actually sell a higher milage stockish auto privately, it would need to be significantly less than a often pursued manual version - in addition to the usual petrolhead kudos nonsense of driving a manual sports car, the re-sale power of the latter gives buyers much more confidence to pay the premium. I'd be prepared to price it under 5 figures to get some actual cash offers in.

    Daily Driver

I can't see why a Supra cannot be driven every day, unless it was modified extensively for other needs.
  3. Not quite my style, but should nicely fetch £22-25k for that mileage and condition.
  4. You can tune the 1980-1990's Toyota TCCS/EFI ecu with a decent piggy back. The AFRs look good, but some extra horses can be found by tweaking the ignition advance.
  5. I might come across mean here, but I honestly felt the car looked much nicer when you first got it!
  6. For a clean low mileage 6 speed, you need to add another £3k minimum. Import? The Japanese dealers are looking for 20-23+K before duty and VAT!
  7. We all wanted fast interesting cars in our 20's. You only live once, so if you can afford one then go for it. Just make sure you have the spare cash to keep it in good condition.
  8. This the problem though, many of the Supra JZA80 market is predominately blue collar males who are attracted to the Supra for entire different reasons instead. Not many appreciates how good the Supra's presence in stock form can be, (too dull, not loud enough, doesn't scare children etc) Also this is another reason that pricing a used JZA80 near or over the £25k mark goes past the affordability of much of the buyers out there.
  9. The grey one also boosted by a poor exchange rate? Unless you have a 100% stock sub 20k miles Supra RZ/UKTT MT6 in pristine condition, its very difficult to justify pricing a used JZA80 for over £25k at the moment.
  10. I been to that McDonalds a few times, it's an unpleasant place to be - I would be seeing red if an obnoxious BMW ever done that to my car. Hope you get your car sorted with minimal cost to you. Anh
  11. If you want £11k for it, you just have to be patient as it is an auto. Like any high performance car, the the market for automatics is much smaller with tentative re-sale power. Additionally, having non-stock styling will put some people off as factory styling is now becoming a much more desirable trait. Best of luck!

    Supra TT question?

Yes, I know - there are minor differences between SAE vs JIS vs DIN methods of rating horsepower, usually the JIS and DIN coming out higher than SAE. This should be taken to a new thread though if you guys want to have a go.

    Supra TT question?

The US spec makes more than 325 horsepower, they underated the car. Dynos show they make between 270 - 310 at the rear wheels, with fuel ratios far less rich than the j-spec and UK spec cars do. Ball is in your court, leave the accusations and excuses to the side and go out there and prove it. I cant be bothered to argue with the case, let the facts do the talking.

    Supra TT question?

I hope your car is standard, maybe you can try this little test. I dont know why you're acting like a kid with an attitude, 0.5 seconds here or there varies on road and weather conditions, even the autobox can sometimes perform inconsistently between shifts. My friends US Spec Auto - with a verified 294 rwhp - totally standard car - did it in 4.0 seconds flat. Contrast this to a imported GZ that has done 5.3 seconds.

    Supra TT question?

It's still about right. The worst time I seen from a healthy working auto supra is 5.7 seconds, so your times are not out of the ordinary. Engine Horsepower is rated with 10 deg c air temps, while you are taking about 15-20 deg air temps in the evenings this week!
  17. Leave your ECT button on, that will make the A340 box drop down to the best lowest gear and holds it for longer between shifts.

    Supra TT question?

Thats about right for an auto, especially with today's hot weather.

    Supra TT question?

It is around 4 to 5 seconds, depending on a manual or auto, a few MKIV owners I know have done these little fun tests and pull of times within this range, if your car gets between those times then there doesnt seem to be a performance problem with the car.

    Supra TT question?

Its not hard to perform a simple 30-70 mph test. Standard JZA80 does it between 4 to 5 seconds. If the 2nd turbo does not work, or there is some boost leak, the car would be far from that time. It doesnt identify the cause to the problem, but sure does identify if there *is* a problem.

    Supra TT question?

Or he could just do a simple acceleration test to see if the car performs like it should. Anyone with some standard mid-range acceleration times for reference? Bum on seat dyno/diagnostics should never be trusted.
  22. Nice trivial site, but not really useful data at all. I think all the numbers there are all racing team's claim or theoretical figures and that doesnt even explain what the distribution of downforce is like, which is just as important.
  23. Where does the author in that book explicitly say total loss from flywheel to the driven wheels is 4%? You quote him saying manual transmission loses 4%, which is a reasonable estimate. The tires account for most of the losses you see between flywheel horsepower to driven wheel horsepower. Also, trap speed is only a rough indicator to the value of the power bands (different power bands through different gears) at the driven wheels over weight and drag.
  24. And he would probably be right, the differential, propshaft and most importantly the tires account for the rest of the losses.
