  1. cheers mate, took it in yesterday, so hope for speedy return!! J
  2. Hopefully 2-3 weeks, according to Mr Toyota, but i suspect longer. Can't wait to get it back, I've got a load of Silkolene Pro S in my kitchen waiting to be poured in and a Greddy FMIC to get fitted. Typical bad timing J
  3. Taxi called, coat on, already left the building... J
  4. Don't know a lot of this techie stuff, but Turbo engines run much lower compression than N/A's and are therfore not as efficient off-boost and therefore run less power off boost. If the compression is say 20% less, then it could be reasonable to suggest that instead of 220 bhp for a straight 3 ltr, the TT engine off-boost may only be putting out the quivalent of 80% x 220 = 175 bhp. Double this would give 350 bhp for 1 bar boost, which is prob about right. Probably complete bollox, though J
  5. I had an Independent Assessor out on Monday to look at the car. I think he was looking to check the £12K value as much as the damage, but reckoned it was easily worth that ("this car is mint") and agreed with the scope of work in the quote from Toyota for the repair. Car is booked in this afternoon , so hopefully any long lead items can be ordered ASAP!! Whilst the Celica hire car I have is quite nice, it has absolutely no feeling of 'urgency' when accelerating. Drove the Supra to work this morning so I can take it straight to the garage this afternoon - What a revelation!! Totally different to the Celica: Far superior driving position Feels so much more planted Obviously much more power (although not using anywhere near full throttle until fully repaired) Better steering response Masses of 'grin factor' In all I am now utterly convinced my Supra, even 10 years old, is better than most modern cars in every way. You need a period of time soley driving a normal road car to really appreciate how superior the Supe is now, let alone 10 years ago. to Toyota!! J
  6. I have a Monza Red 16V (1990). As of last Monday, it's in the garage getting the clutch Master Cylinder looked at - typical timing with Supra off road! (although have got Celica now). Getting the waste gate actuator replaced as well, as it's creeping and I'm losing boost. Not really an 'engineer' as such (change of role), more like a project manager in a large aerospace company - pays for the cars (just!) J
  7. Spoke to Scott at Sky and asked them to sort Ensign out. New outcome is that the car will not be written off!! An engineer is coming out to assess it and I've just had a Toyota Celica with all the electrics and leather (apparently, not seen it yet) delivered for as long as my car is off the road. Apparently Ensign had forgotten about the guaranteed value part of the policy (glad I paid the extra £20 for this!!). Sky are certainly on my side, so I'm glad I went with them - cheers to Mawby J
  8. Haven't been able to post updates due to work, and to be honest not really anything to report...until now I haven't needed a replacement car, as I've been working away, until this week, so have contacted the insurance co (Sky use Ensign) and was 'phoned yesterday by a car hire place saying that the repairs had been authorised and that they would drop a car at the garage for me today. Just 'phoned Ensign to check all this and have been told that their technicians have classed it as a Cat C total loss!! The quote from Toyota was in excess of £4K, and included chassis jig plus all the parts, paint, labour etc. I have a guaranteed value from Sky for £12K and have just phone them asking them to check what is happening. I want to stress that no-one is messing me about and have been very co-operative. Any suggestions on why this may be a write-off and what I am best to do?? cheers (and a bit stunned at the mo) J
  9. Didn't get round to posting on this, but would have come along, except that I'm spending tomorrow getting quotes for looking at/fixing my car after a taxi wanted a closer look at my rear bumper Hope weather is good for all those going, have fun J
  10. Cheers mate, hopefully no ill effects. Have already told garage about checking chasis, rear suspension etc - that's why I didn't want a 'preferred' garage to have the car!! J
  11. Yep, I will treat this as test case for Sky. So far so good, just hope the other guy admits fault and it's a 100% payout. Need to check whether my premium goes up for next year, even though my no claims would be unaffected. hmmm another way insurance companies get you. Anyone know the best way to get replacement factory rear bumper/valance/body kit? J
  12. I agree, just have to burn them off in my integrale!!
  13. Thanks for the kind replies. Agreed that at least no one injured. They guy was really nice and apologetic and called the police as he could see I was shaken up. Have spoken to Sky, and need to phone some more people. Sky said that I should be fine for curtesy car for as long as I need it, that they reckon they'll recover all the costs, including my excess, and agreed that I need to get the car checked by a performance car specialist and not some 'preferred' garage. Gonna get a quote on Saturday from a place I use in Bath, who have recommended a top dollar bodywork guy (matching paint a speciality). On a plus side, a bonus was that I missed an hour of a really dull meeting!! J
  14. Disaster!! Braked for pedestrian crossing where someone was killed a few months ago, so always very careful there now, when lights went red. Had just come to a stop, when I was hit from behind. Rear bodykit badly damaged, and a dent in the panel by the petrol cap. Don't think any other damage. Shows the strength of the Supra, as the other car was a Merc (C class I think) and the front was mangled. Took pics of incident (can't attach yet) and got the police to attend as I was rather shaken up, but am OK. Hopefully I have a witness that he drove into the back of me. He said it was all his fault, but did not comment on the police report form. I've now got to inform Sky, so I guess a test of the club insurance scheme - hope it goes OK Any idea on cost of a replacement J-spec Toyota factory bodykit rear bumper?. Also, how easy is it to match 9 year old green metallic paint (quite rare colour) J
  15. Sorry Dan, but already have plans, otherwise I would. I'll email you my number. Let me know how you get on. Jon
  16. Hi, Someone I know, (but not very well) has asked me if I think this car would be a good buy: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18290&item=4553260162&rd=1 Does anyone know of it? I've suggested to him to join & look on the forum but I don't think he has. cheers J
  17. Silver Supra spotted in Brislington at about 7pm tonight. Looked pretty stock. Something like M*** WXL. Yet again I spot when not in mine (was walking), always the way! cheers J
  18. An excellent day out. Good to see Andy & Susan again, as well as those I've not met before. Thanks to katie C & Laz for getting the cruise bit sorted - some superb roads there! Good to see Taz in the metal - one hell of a machine!! onto Japfest next week... J
  19. Lancia Delta Integrale (No 12 in the Channel4 all time list!) Monza red, 16V, 1990 (G) with 150,000kms It's chipped to run at 1.4 bar which makes it bloody rapid for a small car (approx 260bhp). 4WD, but £1k per year in maintenance bills My supra is the 'daily runabout', which I decided to get when I thought the Grale was not really going to be an everyday car. (I'm sufferring the cost of the ..er.. cost ever since!) Most people don't look twice at it, but you often get double takes from those in the know J
  20. supradibbs, is this a plastic thingy (wondered what that was)?. I've not had mine fitted yet, hopefully in the next week or so. Garage has asked if it has all the bits for fitting (I said yes, hope this is correct). Have moved to flat where car maintenance (inc washing!) is not permitted - bugger!! J
  21. 1) sooper-supra - Graham 2) Laz and KatieC 3) mr lover - gary and geri 4) Lez 5) Mr T 6) Whitelighting 7) jaymdee
  22. Gone for 7th May, as going to All Tomorrow's Parties on 22nd April, then Japfest on 21st May, so this is between the two J
  23. Yeah, but I thought it should be plumbed into the Turbo side of the acuator, not the VSV side, to have any effect. i.e to prevent pressurised air acting on the actuator until it reaches the preset pressure to overcome the spring mechanism. I can't see how fitting this device in the location it is shown will have any (positive) effect on raising the boost. I'm sure that the electronic boost controllers are fitted between the Turbo & actuator and the lower pipe to the VSV blanked off as it's no longer required. Surely it should be the same for EBCs and MBCs. A 3-way bleed valve (or T-piece) which reduces pressure on the actuator would work either between turbo and actuator or actuator and VSV, as some of the pressure which would be acting on the actuator is allowed to bleed away. it's getting late, maybe I'm talking boll**ks J
  24. Saw this on Ebay; Surely the boost controller is plumbed into the wrong place in this pic. All this would do is prevent the pressurised air from being recirced throught the VSV, thus increasing pressure on the wastegate actuator, (possibly causing the wastegate to open earlier than it would and have no effect on max boost?) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=72205&item=7966549969&rd=1 I thought all boost controllers on the MKIV were plumbed into the line between the turbo & actuator and the bottom line off the actuator blanked off. Any comment from anyone who knows more than I ?? J
  25. Something else it could be is the top coils of the suspension springs knocking together when travelling over rough ground, particularly at slow speeds. I get this (Eibach pro-kit) and found that with 2 people in the back, the noise goes as their weight is enough to keep the coils touching - when it's just me they move apart slightly over harsh bumps and come together with a bang/knock. I've also tried putting something around the coils, but not with too much success. Have a look to see whether your top 3 or so coils are touching. If anyone can suggest how to cure this permanantly, please let me know cheers J
