  1. But did anyone ever say the Severn Bridge would be free once it was paid for? There was a definite government commitment to this effect in respect of the Dartford Tunnel which von Blair and das Brown have cynically broken in the interests of fleecing us
  2. I have to agree with this entirely - the guy who looks after my cars has dealt with an absurd procession of cars from me over the years and despite a few moans has dealt with them all with no problems. He is the mechanic Lancaster's turn to when they can't fix a Merc which is amusing to say the least, but he insists he cant' cope with a procession of lowered/tuned/abused supe's so he must remain nameless __________________ :D

    Rain!!

Yup - this thread is quite funny Not having been caught by a supra losing it's tail in the wet doesn't indicate some god-given prowess, more that it just hasn't happened yet... Anyone who has experienced late model traction control on eg a porsche or merc would know that it isn't intrusive 99% of the time and that most owners leave it on all of the time - not because they can't drive but because being saved once from pirouetting up the road even once is worth it. Anyone can save a slide or spin with unlimited space but on uk roads there usually isn't even the three or four feet needed to catch it. The main thing which comes to me reading this polarised thread is:- "There are old pilots and bold pilots but no old bold pilots" Just my two cents from the decrepit end of the scale:innocent:
  4. There are a lot of opinions it is true, but the actual size specs are listed on the dvla site if you want to be 100% legal. Main thing is make sure it is big enough to cover the enormous and mysterious hole in the bodywork.
  5. I don't think the money is even ring-fenced for road improvements is it - just those greedy gits breaking pledges yet again and plunging their hands even deeper into our pockets.
  6. To avoid quoting you all and making this post 3 yards (metres) long thanks very much to you all guys. I hadn't realised the NZ site had so much tech info on there. So it is a '97 J-Spec RZS TT Auto Facelift . I've had it for just over a year and it puts a bigger smile on my face than anything I've owned. I fell in love with the mkiv the first time I ever saw a pic of one but a succession of Co cars stopped me from having one when they were "current" in the UK. It is my daily driver and has never missed a beat or let me down in any way - no-one has ever owned me either! Apart form being lowered and having some skirts it is pretty much unmolested from stock. It has got to go soon but I can't bring myself to do it
  7. My logbook describes my J-spec as a 3 litre TT etc, but in an effort to correctly identify it I have looked around the site to try to identify which model it is. I HAVE tried the search but it doesn't bring up threads which I know exist which rather diminishes my reliance on finding new ones. The chassis plate ends in ALPVZ which from the info I can find on here means it is a VVTI but I have no other info to corroborate this and it was sold to me as a facelift model - are there other ways to identify exactly which version I am driving ? Thanks
  8. Ooops - it isn't the "acc" position it is the "on" position , the one which turns on all the dash lights but doesn't crank it. Anyway I've found the manual and I'll scan it for you tomorrow. Anyone else wants a copy let me know - I seem to recall I wasn't very successful trying to find one on the 'net myself once before
  9. You get two manuals with these, one for the key end and one for the main unit - predictably I can't find the one for the main unit which is where most of the instructions are. If it turns up I'll scan it for you. When I picked mine up from JIC I remember pulling in at a pokey little garage with mega queues and sitting in the car not being able to start it after filling up...after setting and unsetting and setting off the alarm a couple of times I got the hang of it:innocent: After that I RTFM before going anywhere else in it
  10. Are you sure you have to use the pokey pin thing to kill the immobiliser? Mine seems to be a 291 as well and to disarm everything after getting petrol for example I just have to turn the key to the acc position and then press the single pip pad on the fob. Still some messing around but one less PITA to deal with
  11. I don't know what info the Road Angels which a lot of people seem to have show but the Road Pilot displays a map of the satellites it can see and the relative signal strength as it tries to work out which satellites to use, and there is definitely a difference in the time spent coming "online" depending on whereabouts in the country you are and the weather conditions. I live in north essex and heading south on my normal route down to chelmsford it picks up and stays locked in a minute or so from a cold start once I'm out of some narrow streets, but if I head up the A14 into suffolk on a heavy cloud day the signal can take ages to lock and occasionally it will lose it again. I have to go to Wales reasonably often and whilst it will maintain a lock all the way into Welshpool, after I've been parked there all day it always takes a couple of miles to sort itself out again - this is in a relatively open area, not deep in some valley. I've often wondered how far they have to move location before they decide to start from scratch again ie if you start up and drive a mile through a town with a poor view of the sky and they then lock on again as you emerge and the location is different from when they were last active would that explain why sometimes the start times seem to be so different? Re accuracy mine is always bang on as near as I can tell, I've certainly never had it stop warning me before the camera location. The only exception is when they decide to map a whole roadworks as having cameras because of the sheer numbers Essex police cram into a short space of road. Once you are in there you should be aware of them anyway. That's not really a GPS issue though ,
  12. I didn't want to type it but I couldn't stop myself:)
  13. I've seen a Boxster with a roof rack on and looked REALLY weird!
  14. Some of the big Merc engines do this as well, although they had a lot of problems with it initially. They even rotate which cylinders are "dead" to prevent problems with them going stone cold. they had planned to do it with some of the smaller V6 blocks as well but they had so many problems with the engine management on those anyway I'm not sure whether they ever went ahead.
  15. This is interesting because I have to go out of my way to get Optimax or Ultimate but Texaco is on my daily route so I tend to use this more often than the others. I have never had any problems running the Texaco and as far as I can tell without reaching escape velocity there is no penalty compared to BP or Shell.
  16. NAV works well but Symantec aren't always that quick off the mark with new virus definition files. In particular if you rely on the standard "live update" sevice this is normally only updated weekly. They were 24 hours late with Blaster...
  17. I've never poked around the fighter cockpit area of my mkiv but I'm aware that it doesn't take much to provoke warning lights etc on supras. Can anyone tell me whether taking off the steering wheel will do this or whether there are any other perils waiting for me (like an airbag in the face) please?

    Jic Ltd

That's awful news, they were really nice guys to deal with

    Jic Ltd

I hope that's all it is, but I would have thought they would have kept their old phone no unless it had to stay on that estate they were on. I was going to offer them my car as I haven't got time for all the hassle of putting it in E&M :-) Thanks Martyn

    Jic Ltd

Hi there, Does anyone know what if anything has happened to JIC? Their website vanished on monday and hasn't come back. The phone no I have for them doesn't answer but I don't know if it changed when they moved? Any clues? Thanks Martyn
