  1. Trouble is in the middle of the night how do you assess what the threat is? It might not be obvious they have a weapon initially but once you are tussling it is a bit too late to disengage and search for an appropriate response once you have more accurately assessed the level of threat. IMHO that is what needs to be addressed and why the current legislation could do with a tweak
  2. If you had all seen a picture from a bit further away you would know it reads "Beware - exhaust the size of a bucket, do not fall in!! " :eek2:
  3. Ahem - yes I have. I do an 80 mile commute every day and reasonably often 200 miles in a day. As much as I loved the Supra I couldn't face another dark wet winter of Supra handling on dodgy road surfaces doing long trips after a days work, it just wasn't the right car for me at the moment. If and when my circumstances change I intend to get another one before they all get too old. I know everyone in here thinks 911's are easy kills but I don't think there is much in it between a standard TT and NA 911, if anything the 911 is quicker to 60 but it does lack that punch when the TT's 2nd turbo kicks in. Handling wise mine is a C4 and it sticks to the road like Gordon Brown to your wallet. I know I'm not the only one in here without a Supra - it's just friendlier than most of the forums and I still think it is a great car.
  4. Yeah thanx a bunch - bring on more penguin slaughtering
  5. Saw that sticker on the back as I was waiting to cross the road to go to the Balti King for lunch - wondered what it was then!
  6. Hey - were you driving down Chelmsford Parkway around 2pm today?
  7. Too often though the emphasis is placed on the householder to justify the degree of force used
  8. Bloody hell - is that Harry Potter's Night Bus? I wouldn't bet 10p on doing it in that time in a car
  9. ISTR there is loads on this subject on the yank site, have you taken a look there? Briefly they all matter to the way the car feels and behaves, but camber is the main cuplrit for tracking ruts and caster is the one which principally makes it feel like it is too edgy. Suspension which has been lowered too far (which isn't far) means pretty much that all bets are off and all you can go for is the best compromise. Either way you will be fortunate to get a road going setup to hold fractional degrees of adjustment (Sits back and waits for people who know much more about this to yell "rubbish")
  10. OR - if you don't want to just join the beemer brigade, the E-Class AMG mercs come up for reasonable money nowadays and they have 'adequate' power and loads of room.
  11. It might well, I believe there were two different methods of operation for these bods when they were originally set up.
  12. I'm afraid that isn't correct. The partnership applies for a funding grant based on a budget and this is then paid off by fines collected. If they cannot manage to spend everything which is in their budget after purchasing new pencil sharpeners all round, then the surplus goes to the treasury.
  13. Point taken, you are correct about that. I can't see them incorporating dopplering into the equation. It would only work if the range was really short but then that would mean more readers etc etc
  14. Yeah - the Essex "safety camera partnership" made so much money from safety in their last accounts they couldn't spend it all and had to hand a load back I believe ( not to us naturally), despite refurbing everthing they owned. I haven't got anything against policemen/women but the way the essex force are so utterly obsessed with speed cameras gets on your nerves. That last bunch of roadworks on the A12 + a minor set on the A120 meant I was passing 14 speed cameras on the way to work at the end of last year which is just plain stupid. Each time we have roadworks along there now the first month of contraflows is purely to erect the bl**dy gatso's. Rant mode off
  15. Hardly any cameras are run by "on duty" cops now, they are nearly all civvies employed by the "safety camera partnerships" or guess what, overworked cops who miraculously aren't too exhausted from crime fighting to turn in overtime shifts persecuting the majority who consent to be policed.
  16. You would simply need to measure time taken between two readers and hey presto a speed measuring device is born. It's just more totalitarian stuff which our jailers are so fond of. Luckily there has never been an administration so totally inept in the field of IT so they would never be able to get it to work.
  17. Never seen them use anything more sophistiicated than gatso and laser in essex so that will have been a mini gatso and you should be ok unless they have some new death ray type device on trial or something. Gatso's will do you at night but you don't often see them using the mini ones after dark, I assume becasue the siting has to be good to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers. If anyone knows it was something else I would like to know as well

  19. Another vote for "had one" and I will get another at sometime when my car usage changes
  20. "The asteroid, attracted to the Earth's south pole region, where strong magnetic rays pulled in the massive space rock " What a loon Better keep an eye out for death rays as well
  21. They won't want to hear that or the fact that they welcomed a certain Mr G Adams to NY within days of 9/11 on a fundraising speech bash
  22. but our initial contribution was three and fourpence -- the US aren't always the bad guys
  23. oops edited by the author due to an indiscretion on my part :-(
