Lovely weather isn't it? (Edited by Gareth Davies at 5:42 pm on Oct. 30, 2001)

Ok Bentwaters proved to me that slowing down is easily as important as speeding up, now after getting back yesterday it looks like my brake pads have swolen up and they white and pourous looking. Now is this something that could have happened or were they just funky white chalky pads? And the brakes sweak badly now. I definatly need to look at the brake fluid but I definatly didn't suffer as much as some of the other guys did (i.e. my brakes still worked!) I've seen some talk of grooved / drilled discs on the mail list, and that looks like a good idea, as i'm pretty sure i've damaged my current discs. Can you get them skimmed or something? Since I doubt i'll be doing another track day for a while it's not that worrying, since i've never used the brakes nearly that hard on the road (well bar some Ian C / Rabbit dodging moments). Well any comments info would be great.

Ok now i'm confused, the manu mode lets you change gear manually but why does that have any affect on power / 0-60 etc? When you floor the auto it just runs to the run line and changes gear. Or is it a case that running to the red-line isn't what you should be aiming for? I've never felt it changed faster in manu mode than when it was doing it in fully automatic. Granted I should have used manu mode for engine braking, but since the primary benefit of an auto box is not having to pi55 about with the gears round the corners surely thats lost? Plus I have a major problem of shifting into third rather than second (it's an older straight auto box). Maybe I should bi7ch less, i'm sure our racing line was a lot more impressive than if we'd been messing with the gears (as some grassy excursions proved) Oh well guess i'll add gearbox to my list of mods. Maybe a nice hollinger six speed sequential. Just seems that if you're going to change an auto for a manual you should do it in a targa top supra so it's pretty unique. Sorry for diverting your thread eye.

But you can't manually select fourth without disabling the manu-u mode, but then it should change up. Personally I found the auto box a real kick in the teeth at bentwaters, as without engine braking the brakes took a real pounding (more than a manual would). I've got mine on a dyno this saturday, hopefully it will allow me to properly configure the fuel controller. Hopefully the box shouldn't be too much of a hinderance. Keep us posted EyeFi.

I really don't mind windows any more, 2000 / XP are really quite nice. Win 95 really was a great step. But anyone trying to run a realtime app from a windows box is clearly looney. A windows interface is good, until some obscure driver compatibilty issue sets the ECU to some fruity values and blows your engines to pieces. Looks like it's well worth keeping an eye on.

You're right a post where I didn't insult you! I'm sorry didn't mean to leave you out. But here's killing two birds with one stone, Alex's web site looks like it's put together by a labotomised monkey. Of course i'm just jeshin, I honestly like www.trlperformance.com, well designed, clean, to the point. That puts it above 99% of the net (since 98% doesn't have a point). If anyone actually wanted a verbose analysis i'm sure they'd ask.

Now that was one vehicle that unlike the supra definatly needed a smaller exhaust Nice car/site Pete, older site (your car bit) seems to have a few broken links though, which might have been broken in the upgrade.

Thought as much So I can have round holes as well as the vents? Bonus! and they make us pay all this money for racing bonnets I have no idea what type of turbos are fitted, but I have no reason to suspect they're not stock. I really need to get someone to go over it and make an inventory (well someone that knows what they're doing unlike myself). I know some people would consider it a bit mad to buy a car without knowing whats in it, but hell it definatly is interesting! Like christmas all over again :cheesy: I must say i'm really impressed with the auto box on it, i'll be damned if I could change gears that fast! And the kick down is nothing short of instant. Tad better than the NA. The only guages i've got are oil / water (I think!), boost and a big fat apexi RPM one (just incase the one in the middle of the dash wasn't obvious enough!). I really could do with a EGT one asap so I can tell if it's running healthy. Big exhaust too, so i've finished my boost runs for this evening

Just went for a run, the gain was set to 1 which I think might have been causing some nasty problems as the whole system sounds a lot deeper now. Got it set to 10 and it seems an aweful lot better. I only dared run it a few times, since there were quite a few people about and I didn't take it off R50/G10 and it only got a peak 1.1 Kg/cm, I set my peak limit at 1.2 and a -10. I've got a mechanical gauge so I could play a bit more I guess. If I recall from a while back stock turbos aren't worth having at more than 1.2 Bar anyway (1.22 kg/cm?). If I set it to something like R100/G20 could I see what the maximum boost would be or will it be raining pistons? I was kind of hoping that it would have been set-up as I hoped the guys in japan knew their stuff, but it's obviously all been fiddled with. I just pray they haven't messed up the fuelling... I managed to understand two of the other boxes now as well the... two fan controllers

Ok i'm in gadget heaven now having just picked up my new car. Which is loaded with various bleepy boxes, of which one is the Blitz DSBC. I've seen other members with this, and was wondering what kind of settings they we're running? I think I understand the various concepts as described on the online manual, but if anyone knows of some pitfalls... Thanks in advance. No rush, i'm still fasinated by the folding mirrors

This isn't really a technical thread (thought i'd save Ash the trouble of saying it). Why is there such an enormous lead time on RLTC? 6 weeks is well into the silly season, and just think how gutted you'd be if you slapped your car into a tree while waiting forever for a RLTC unit? Any indications on price? I'm sure i'm not the only person to be really annoyed by £POA.

I thought you put a short shifter on Justins car? Well I doubt anyone can say you waste time, so i'm sure anyone you have to turn down understands . Company, Family, supporting us here on the board (greatly appreciated btw), as well as 'fixing' everyone's supra's + the rest!. If Toyota gave an award for commitment to their cars i'm sure you'd have it! You ever going to get round to doing your own car? I'm sure i'm not the only one interested in your supercharger project! It will be good to see what you've done to Justins car. Which I guess we might see at Oakington (or is that just Darren Dixon)?

Look back through some threads, Race Logic Traction Control being a good one. The summary being, the stock unit sucks (but is way better than nothing) and even when it does activate it doesn't do it very well, so buy a race logic one... Unless you drive like Alex, then you won't need it

Looks like http://www.levelten.com to me ... Infact http://www.levelten.com/store/import/items/electronics/import_shiftronic.htm Looks like what they're on about? Surely though you can do all this with manu mode anyway? It's just a but clumbsy. (Edited by Gareth Davies at 12:41 pm on Sep. 28, 2001)

I had my alloys reconditioned by JiC on my old car, and the 're-conditioning' is now flakeing off Sounds like a real professional job to me... New ones are fine though... morale of the story... why refurb alloys when you can buy a new car

Not such a good debut for me on the 'big list' then Just trying to salvage what sanity I have left, there is some kind of cooler the UK spec has the jap one doesn't isn't there? Ok i'll take the automatic box cooler for 2 points bob?

So Ash, if the HKS ones aren't what you thought does that mean there are better places to get them? Or really is it a case that you'll never see the kind of RPM in a supra that would require the superior type? Maybe you should just add some trade descriptions sections to your court action re the price fixing I've been browsing the Fast Car guide and there seems to be rather alot of cam companies, is it a case you'd ask one of these to make you a custom set or something? There's been some pretty good things said about the HKS cams on the big list and i'm pretty sure it's on of my earlier upgrades for my new car (if they haven't always been done).

Ash is entirely correct (as if that needed stating), according to the Wizards of Nos site, the Nos is only used when the throttle is down under acceleration, so you have plenty of time to press your button... get ready and jam the throttle. It would be nice to get peoples views on Nos as 300 BHP for £700 sounds pretty good to me We could have a template answer for all the people that turn up after FnF is released! (which features it extensivly), which kind of makes me think it's more a hollywood gimmick. Oops sorry for being off thread, probably need another one.

Note there are two types of veilside rear spoiler, if you have a targa top make sure it's the carbon one, as the other is too heavy (i've often though it increases downforce by simply weighing loads) for the standard boot piston things thus stowing the roof is a real art if you don't have someone to help I don't know if you can uprate these pistons though. I think the cost was quite alot for the carbon one though. I've found importing veilside kit mighty expensive. I'm sure JF will be able to find them at a 'reasonable' price. JIC do some knock-offs that are pretty cheap, and they look pretty good on the cars i've seen. I don't actually know if they're supposed to be an upgrade to the rear spoiler, I think it's just cosmetics. I think they definatly make the supra look more sinister. And I know i'm going to suffer for this, but I quite like supras without the rear spoiler , but to my defense both my supras have veilside rear wings...

You'd think Alex's condition was drug induced wouldn't you Unfortionatly it's not...

Phil, What other hardware do you have on you laptop? For example do you have a pc card modem that could be using the IRQ for the com port in question? Also running the software form a DOS box rather than a restarting in MS-DOS could be blocking access to the port. And I presume in your enthusiasm you've not missed anything simple like having it plugged into the wrong com port?(my laptop has two in different places) I don't have my RLTC installed yet (or a car worthy of installing it in), but i've had a play with the software, the procomm section doesn't really look more than a bundled COM product. It might be worth trying to use Hyperterminal or one of the far superior free/shareware comm programs. Usually on Win95 / 98 com ports don't appear in the device manager if they're disabled in the bios (as Win 9x unlike NT scans these devices at startup). The bios is the bit at the very start when you turn on that says something like "press del to enter setup", could be any combination of keys but I think the most popular are Del or F1. There would probably be a section called 'intergrated perhierals' or the like, the COM settings will be in there. No harm in looking around for them, but it's a mighty bad idea to change some things in here, so be careful. If that doesn't help i'm sure you could bring the laptop to the next gathering and supragirl will sort it out for you

I really hope it wasn't JIC that mauled it as my new baby is there getting the SVA at the moment. Infact when I requested they didn't fit the delimiter they said they wouldn't do it because of the SVA and it's a doddle to remove anyway. Hardly the masacre you described. I've got a whole host of electronics I need fitted, so hopefully i'll be able to find one of these field loom things before my new car turns up (RLTC, FCD, SLD). Since me welding a soldering iron is a signifigant danger to myself and anyone around me i'll at least have a fighting chance of getting it right! Maybe i'll have a practice run on the old one!

Nope, try following the other thread about Performance differentiators: http://www.rolec.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=2&topic=133
