  1. One presumes if he lost 3 plugs he would have at some point or another. I had a bad set of misfire yesterday (caused by my half finished RLTC install). How bad / quickly does it damage the engine? Probably had to limp it home over a mile with a constant misfire
  2. Isn't dumping from N to D very very bad... as in the only reason it does blow the box to pieces is because they're quiet high grade? MKIV Auto's definately seem to launch better in MAN-U mode, since they very rarly seem to use 1st unless you really provoke them. Make sure O/D is off too. I don't really have a clue compared to Mycroft but since my somewhat abysmal launches at the top speed challenge i've shaped up a bit. I'd say no more than 2000 rpm, as surely the extra power provided by the spooled turbo is gonna cause a lot of excess heat? Wheel spin ain't a problem with the RLTC set properly. Infact the launch control could probably be adapted for a power brake launch.
  3. Glad you managed it to get it done Matt. I'm sure we would have had one hell of a time if we didn't have a field harness... then again if it took you less than 1.5 to solder it then you beat my time We soldered the multiloks as well, just better that way. Luckily we put the ABS wires on bulletts... so they could be disconnected faster. The pulling the loom into the drivers well was definatly the better way to do it...
  4. Ace, Thanks Phil. I fear you're right about having to locate the ABS wires from the sensors.
  5. Why anyone would care I don't know, but just to keep you updated at what we've been doing... Removal of Dash (5 minutes) Removal of Carpet / Ecu cover (5 minutes) Removal of ECU plug to fit harness (1.5 hours) : Thank Mines, bunch of lamers... (screw that attaches plug doesn't come off enough). Fitting of field harness (5 minutes) ABS wiring, (15 minutes) : i'll detail the method for this when I know it hasn't caused our problems... Fit unit and control box / loom (20 minutes, next to gear lever). Replace ECU cover... N/A (how the heck does one fit the field harness under that???). Start up, injectors fine, RPM fine, ABS NONE right... hmmm may as well have attached it to the antenna control . When ABS connected causes ABS fault on dash (least we got the right ECU )... funny since they're all read-only's... So i'll have to find out what the right pins are from RL / Toyota... I will fit this, even if it's the last thing I do... which unfortionatly is looking more and more likely
  6. Cut the red wire, no the blue.... BANG.... Hmmm, isn't this amusing, ok while little bro is playing with the wires we've selected, went to charge the laptop so we can check it out... realising one fatal flaw... I don't actually have Grahams application, or some dat files to feed it Did this ever get put on the web somewhere? Or could someone please email it to me? Cheers. Tyres are 275/35/18, 245/40/18 since that seems a popular question (so any dats near this would be top). Maybe we should right a wizard to built Supra settings off of the tyre sizes? We've got a "cunning plan" for the ABS wiring too that might help everyone with their installs in the future if it pays off too...
  7. Thanks for the help guys. I have the wiring diagrams from mkiv but they just seem to match what racelogic have on their diagram. The colours on the smaller plug almost match (it's blue, blue/purple rather than blue / purple, at the top left and bottom right pins). The wires on the main plug are not even remotely similar. So i'll try hunt down the wire colours that are a slightly large guage... at least these ones are reads not intercepts... that could have been even more fun. I'm glad i'm not the only one to have this problem though. I think i'm going to have to make a field harness for the ABS ECU though
  8. Ha, actually it would have read the antenna information as the wheel speeds... i'm sure the injector pattern might have been a little strange Just a thought, could someone send me the UK spec ABS wiring, the plug on the left only has 12 pins, and the other ones colours are wrong... (since the car has UK spec brakes, maybe they change the ABS unit too? Long shot city I know...) Anyone that says I should have given it to racelogic will be summarily executed... assuming they would have touched it at all with the ECU in the state it is.
  9. Ha ha, I knew that was too easy... i'm sure the a**ehole in japan that thought that up is laughing in his grave (since i'm sure with humour like that someone will have bumped him off by now).... So the ABS ECU is... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/kryalis/ABSEcuHighlight.jpg I thought it was, since it looks as annoying to get to as everyone said... added problem is that doesn't fit the colours / wiring diagrams either Thanks Ash, good save
  10. Ok some piccies, http://www.mkivsupras.co.uk/ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/kryalis/ABSEcuCloseSml.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/kryalis/ABSEcuBackSml.jpg I think the biege thing on top of the stereo is it, but the third piccy shows there are three connectors (where the wiring diagram shows two), and none of the wire colours match... For large pics. Pic 1 - Dash Pic 2 - Close Pic 3 - Back
  11. Ok as always i'm stuck and need your help... Wired up the field harness... No problems (yeah honestly!) Taken dash apart (no problems yet...) Found something that could be the ABS ECU (I'll post a pic in a sec). Very beige box on top of the stereo, with ABS written on it (I ain't falling for that one though)... Trouble is, the wiring looks nothing at all like the diagram racelogic supplied, there's 3 connection blocks with a variety of multi-coloured wires. Hmmm any ideas?
  12. Neither does anybody else. WTF is that ? One presumes he means the sequential turbos, since that would follow from the rest.
  13. Yeah because there has never ever been any more powerful supras than that... Hmmmm Neither exactly especially well considered statements Ash... Above the fuel cut thresholds things generally begin to get much more expensive, and probably needs detailed attention to the fuelling. This was recently covered on another thread. Mycroft details a good point, the after market filters aren't good for performance at all, there are some sealed solutions about that are worth looking into. Again something we've gone over in detail in other threads (maybe a while back now though).
  14. Andrew, is the (!) the brake light (i.e. the same one thats on when the hand brake is). Both my supras have had this problem and it's been fixed by changing the brake fluid. I ain't the technical type so I don't know why but it seems whatever 'detects' a brake system failure (which is what those two mostly mean apparently) is a bit sensitive to having the brake fluid boiled occasionally... which i'm led to believe affects the levels. So i'd have to agree with you...
  15. OT : Who elses mental image of Mycroft just changed from Ares (like the avatar) to Ali G  Steve : Forgive the scaremongering but it is justified. If you're worried then get race logic traction control (beat you too it PhilW ), it'll help. Or better yet find a car with it already fitted (they're becoming more common). I've found that FWD is far more forgiving, mess up a bit and you can recover, RWD mess up especially with big power, and you're in the ditch wishing you'd used a less... or worse... PEACE
  16. Think it worked out about £8k labour, and you'd have to find a manual box for it. I believe Ibrar decided it was easier to buy an NA car and transplant the engine and gearbox from a TT than to just change the gearbox!!! As an owner of a NA - Aero, and a Auto TT, the autos are NOT as bad as you might think. Yes it would be nice to have a manual, but if you want the aero you're pretty much stuck with it. And if that hasn't scared you off, you might as well slap a veilside sequential in while your at it. Now that would be a master piece in an aero. Another alternative is to get a Euro LHD one and convert it to RHD. Which is probably worth investigating (can't help you there though). Euro models (or US ones) are 'export' spec as well, which is commonly regarded as superior to the J-Spec ones. You can get some very high spec cars from the states for good money if you would consider this, or don't mind LHD. Ha, the best bet it the wait for Ibrar to finish his new supra and buy that when he gets rid of it
  17. Bah who cares, it was interesting... Almost as interesting as Alex finding the 20k for all this work... probably a loooooooooong term project  Mycroft, put that in your profile Back on thread... So Alex have you discounted Pauls ECU? Since it seems he'll have that ready before AEM's get theres from Vapourware Inc. Plus Options insist they can remap the Mines units anyway, so that's a stop gap... if not as cool as one you can do from a laptop. Why not just get one of the race / street heads from PHR, they're "only" ~$10k, but i'll bet they're good stuff.
  18. Darren if I recall you got it from JIC? Both my cars have had their tyres swapped at JIC >after ), they're definatly J-spec tyres as well (i.e. not UK approved). When I first went to JIC the rears were immaculate S-03's but it left with some RE-751 (ironically the same as on the NA). Got a full set of replacements for them friday anyway. I bought 8 tyres from micheldever this morning, and they asked if I wanted a trade account
  19. It's not all bad news, as I said, we did fix a few of the scotch locks (I think we replaced 6, the tip of the icebery), and that seems to have fixed the problems i'd been having. And we repaired the other Defi unit, so i've got a boost head up display now as well. I think once I get a field harness then we can at least attempt the RLTC, ha it's only been sat on the shelf 6 and a half months now! Got a few other toys for it as well. But it really is a bit futile trying to add anything else when you're working on an unstable platform. Not a hard task, just a long boring one... that should have been done right in the first place! Then again if I didn't need all the toys... might as well have a corsa
  20. Phil, I already have a load of intermittent faults, rats nest is an understatement. Trouble is it's everywhere! Behind the dash, boot, passenger footwell, and all over the engine bay. I also have no idea why they were all done like this, as it was done AFTER it got into the UK! How it can be considered safe is an beyond me. Oh well we'll see what they want to do about it monday. Oh well, nothing like a challenge, adding new devices will be solder and prey activity though!
  21. Andy, well the wiring was done by out good friends at JIC, why is anyones guess. Maybe their competent electrician was off so they let his hamster do it. I dare not post the zoomed out one showing the rest of the footwell, it would give any electricians among you nightmares. Alex, Matt's kindly already trying to sort me one out. Should actually at least make installing the RLTC possible.
  22. The 'professional' conversion work on my ECU. http://www.supranova.co.uk/ECUMessSml.jpg Only 8 scotch lock things are visable, but there are infact 15 in there. 8 being on the same one (power off the ECU). Hmmm great huh? We replaced all the ones we could easily get at and at least the electronics seem a little more stable now.
  23. Thanks guys, i've aborted it again, the ECU wiring is as f**cked as the rest of it. I'll post a piccy later for a laugh. Couldn't find those female connectors anywhere either! Went on a wild goose chase for about an hour and half looking for em!
  24. Finally after all my bitching my brothers is going to try install my RLTC today. But we've fallen at the first hurdle. I've lost the wiring diagram for the supra... and racelogic kindly didn't include any female connectors for the blocks. Could someone please mail me a copy of the wiring diagram? Pretty please. I could also do with Phil's install guide, and a descent set of settings. Which i've managed to leave at work (please note my email is now different). Cheers guys, now i'm off to get some connectors We're doomed I tell ya...
  25. ** Off Topic ** (for Ians sake) That auto box looks sweet! Maybe that's the solution i've been looking for... ha ha eat that you manual owning pansies! Bah, 800BHP isn't enough though
