  1. Rich: Yes, I drove my friends Type-R, which is why I wanted one. The only thing (small as it was) that I could possibly see as a downside was that I'd have used the car to drive semi-long motorway distances, and the lack of soundproofing (I know, for the glorious weight reduction!) might have been a PITA after a while. Had they been RWD, I'd have snapped someone's arm off for one, too. All said though, they're really great cars, almost like driving a go-kart (great handling, low weight). And also the only car in EXISTENCE that white is the best-looking standard colour.... Adam: Mad, innit? I don't even drive my NA to half its potential, and have some serious amounts of fun (had it 8 months now, and only just stopped going to empty carparks on wet evenings!) - of course, there is ALWAYS going to be people wanting to go faster. Thrustin with his dreams of Diablo ownership, for example.....but that boy's a nutter....
  2. Co-incidentally, I was after an ITR until I was tempted away to a Supra.....
  3. Everyone will hate me now, but the NA isn't bad at all.....I had the chance of buying a TT auto and an NA manual, and went for the NA - to 60 there isn't really THAT much difference (under a second), and I wanted a manual.... Obviously, if turbo power is your thing, go for it. Lots of people I know ask if mine is a TT, and I say no.....they look all disappointed (as they imagine that the NA is just a TT engine minus the turbos) until I take them for a spin....
  4. *Mycroft mode* I remember hearing that a catalytic converter gets up to about 500 kelvin on cold start. Which is 226.85 Celcius, by my (probably flawed) calculations.
  5. Both, if possible......just looking for a ballpark figure, as they need pumping up.
  6. Simple enough.....what sort of pressures should I be running, on 17s?
  7. Just joined the AA - will phone them tonight, now it's their fizzucking problem
  8. So nobody will touch this with the proverbial barge-pole - unless I bring it in to their fizzucking garage. What are my options......tow truck or trying that tyre sealant?
  9. Thanks guys. I hope the guy has something like that.....it's nothing that elaborate, just a wheel nut with some grooves in, I guess one of those nice ratchets will rip it off double quick. I might get the guy to take the other 3 off too, and replace em with normal wheel nuts - as I expect the unlocking ratchet attachment thingy is somewhere in Asia
  10. So I'm the luckiest driver in the world. Off to work tonight, ran over a stick or something (which made a hell of a noise). Drifted into a side street (fortunately practically outside a mates house) to find one back tyre hissing at me. Not a problem.....I'll put the rather attractive orange-painted steel spare rim on. Jacked the car up to find......the stock wheel wrench doesn't even remotely fit the wheel nuts. Not a problem, however there is a LOCKING wheel nut on it, of which I don't have the sleeve. They are aftermarket BSA (Malaysian) rims, of which I've never seen the like. So again, my Supra is stricken on the roadside. I'm going to phone some kind of mobile tyre fitter (if such a thing exists) tomorrow, but I wondered if I could get some opinions.... What are the chances that the mobile tyre place will be able to get the locking wheel nut off? I think personally I'll do well if they can actually cut it off...... Yours grumpily, Flip PS - anyone want to buy my Supra....I'm selling up and taking the bus / walking from now on.
  11. My J-Spec NA does.......if you leave the lights on, and open the driver side door, it beeps at you.
  12. Franky Do you remember me?
  13. Nobody would be able to hear it over the raucous thunder of a Hiper (especially decatted) on an NA anyway......
  14. I don't need a machine to make a noise when I blow off
  15. And a Mad Max-a-like burble at tickover for me please.
  16. Sorry to butt in and get back on-topic (LOL - not like me at all) but my J-Spec N/A has a manual control for levelling just like a UK spec.... I dunno if it was an option or something, but the more I find out about my particular N/A, the more it intrigues me......it has a lot of stuff that others don't seem to have, and problems that nobody else has ever had (finding the frigging terminals to switch the air bag light off). Nice lights Pete. I could seriously have used them a few months ago driving back from somewhere in deepest, darkest Suffolkshire......like pea soup, it was....
  17. Mmm......loudness (right?) Chris, how long are you going to have these kicking around? And are they easy to fit (bearing in mind I've the mechanical know-how of a dead slug)?
  18. Okay There isn't the same box on an NA.......has anyone reset their airbag light on an NA?
  19. I can't stress this enough........try to find an AIR-CONDITIONING SPECIALIST. My uncle works for one round here, and he's been telling me some real horror stories about how dealers 'service' their air-conditioning units (which nine times out of ten are subcontracted to specialists for installation anyway!). I'm sure they'll be one around Manchester.
  20. My clutch plates make a funny whining noise in neutral with the clutch pedal down too......and mine is an N/A Just sounds like a worn clutch t'me......
  21. Erm, I dunno about anyone else, but after driving for about 6 months (ie. 6 months after taking my test), driving a car with a clutch was pretty much natural and required very little 'processing' (ie. what you would normally use to read a road) thought. I can walk and chew gum, too.
  22. Found this on this very website, is this not what you need? What does the MANU button near the gear lever do MANU = Manual shift mode. When you are in manual mode, and you put the shifter in L, the tranny will stay in 1st gear, when you put the shifter in 2nd, the tranny will shift to 2nd gear (where when you are not in Manual mode, the car will still start from 1st... or remain in 1st depending on your speed), and when you put the shifter in D, the tranny will shift to 3rd. (but note that when the car is at complete stop, and the shifter is in D, and in manual mode, the car will still start from 2nd gear). Basically, if you use the manual mode, and shift manually, the car will shift a lot faster.... and thus the car will go a lot faster.
  23. That wasn't my intention at all. I realise after the last few days you think people are persecuting you, but I honestly didn't mean it like that. I haven't ever driven a Soarer, so I don't comment on their ability or qualities. I haven't driven an Astra GTE either, so I don't comment on their ability or qualities, other than the only fact I know about them - they have digital dashboards.
  24. Astra GTE's had digital dashboards hehe
  25. Brad, I think I love you. In a manly platonic way, you understand
