Little update @TheTurtleshead kindly fabricated me some new box sections for the rear to sort out the crushed ones. After this i went to work on stripping down the subframe. Can't say I enjoyed that part either. I thought i'd allow myself 3 hours to do the whole thing and let's just say i'm way over that! After removing the seized camber bolts i was left with a pretty ugly hole (i'm convinced it wasn't me but hey ho!) So back to James to rectify that for me. Whilst there i got to work stripping down the bushes and hubs. As mentioned above the ABS Sensors were a real nightmare to remove. Unfortunately ended up breaking both so will need to replace. The bushes on the arms itself were a real pain also - they have a metal sleeve inside which unfortunately is really difficult to galvanic corrosion of dissimilar metals. I used a 6 tonne press and many hours but finally got them out. Then cleaned them up on the inside ready for new bushings. After that i proceeded to strip the rest of the arms, and the hubs down. They're actually fine but as i want to get them painted i thought i may aswell. Then got the subframe and a few other bits back from the powdercoaters. Will be taking these knuckles, backing plates and a couple other bits over there shortly also. Based on the original condition of the subframe this has saved me a tonne of hours. Next on the list: Order new subframe bolts Order New bushes Get the box sections welded in Finish Seam sealing and underseal Then it's put back together time!!!!!!!!!! or paint it.. haven't decided the best order to do this yet

Before I update this - for anyone interested. I did break both my abs sensors but way round it is to use a heat gun on low for a bit, let the plastic get warm then it’ll melt the glue holding them in, then just a 10mm socket and tap them out

TT aerotop here, fresh reapray, underside restored. 57k miles. Beautiful interior and service history. Silver. Full service inc belts. Only thing it needs is the alarm looking at as it can be tempremental. More pics on my progress thread drop me a pm if interested

Ah man, I feel like Ive tried everything. breaking them might be the only way now annoyingly yeh soaked in penetrating oil but not budging even made a tool to push from inside but does nothing
-
Yeh man, just starting splitting it to be painted but oh my days the rear abs sensors are causing me a headache to remove

Took a half day off yesterday to try get some more bits done. The box section had been crushed at some point. No idea how - my best guess is maybe the previous owner reverse over a bike or something.. So ended up drilling the spot welds to get the 2 pieces out so that they can be repaired/replaced. Scotched up the rear section ready for seam sealing. I need to make a start on cleaning the unit up though as it's not in a good way after this project Making a start on disassembling the rear subframe today

Haha yep! Some of them I’ve grinded through in error but when I put it back together time will tell what I’ve misplaced or destroyed I think my head is going to be permanently fixed in the lean back looking up pose though. Absolutely soul destroying work.

Forgot i hadn't updated this in a while Wheel well and all surrounded areas are painted in 2k epoxy. As is the wheel arches. I have now rubbed down the whole centre section and floor pans and have painted them (pics later) Next plan is to grey scotch all the paint, apply seam sealer then apply Dinitrol 447 to the underbody. It's a stoneguard that has Zinc within it for added protection.

so are we holding on for dear life or buying more?

No probs, can’t remember what I paid. Just looked on eBay and undercut them all

i have a new shroud in the Unit but no fan (fareham, hampshire) £150.00 delivered for the shroud

did you use AI to write this?

So wheel arch finished rubbing back now, as is the cubby, rear quarter section and above the fuel tank. Have applied some phosphoric acid to it also Going to epoxy tomorrow, then take a break for a week or so, let my hands recover. Then it’ll be drivers side wheel arch and cubbies

Not a lot to report just yet, been slowly beavering away at the underside. Why? Not really sure but I’m anal and I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t do it all while it was out. Hoping to have rear section finished being rub down to bare metal by Sunday, then going to green scotch it all up so it’s a little more keyed, then rust convert any hard to reach parts then straight into epoxy before I start on the mid section. So far rear section below boot has been done, passenger wheel arch almost finished, just getting into the small pockets off space either side of the boot is a real challenge. Will smash out drivers wheel arch then get it all blown off and panel wiped if I ever decide to do this again, it will be on a rotisserie for sure.

Forgot i hadn't updated this in a little while. The project has gone above and beyond what i anticipated for it, but don't they always? Started putting some bits back into the engine bay to make some sort of progress on it. Cleaned up the firewall shield a bit too, scrubbed the loom and got the manual pedals and clutch master in. This is where the fun begins......... the car then went down to see James at Retro Roadsports for a complete welding job including two new sills left and right, a new rear section on passenger side, and manual tunnel swap. I'll let the pictures do the talking here but the work was quite extensive. He did say he enjoyed doing it though and would welcome many more through the door. I picked up the car last week from James and wasted no time in getting the sills protected, started but rubbing them back, masking them up - sprayed in 2k Epoxy then seam sealed. Next step will be to tackle the wheel arches, drop the subframes and clean up the underside

exactly the opposite of what i expected... have just bought a couple more bits but man... FOMO hit me hard on this one have started to buy a bit in KASPA
