  1. Already had my dip stick out... It's fine, checked it at running temp, doesn't smell burnt, and looks golden treacle type colour, not black
  2. Not sure if this info makes a difference, but on last bit of my drive, I thought, put manual on, go through gears, so launch, fine, shifts into 2nd nice and smooth, move it into drive, stays in 2nd. So, I'm guessing, drive position is the problem
  3. I just pulled over at shop, got back in.... Put in drive, 1st and 2nd fine, dropped to 1st and is stuck there now
  4. Yeah cheers David P P, I wasn't meaning how to look at dipstick dipstick. Right I'm almost home, 4k to 5k all the way.Well I've taken a little video on driving home, I'll upload soon, checked atf, looks fine. But now, it's getting as far as 3rd, sometimes swapping itself to second, but as I let my foot off pedal then press it again, it's as if it's in neutral until it hits 3k revs then it drives again, but only if I'm lucky, up to 3rd gear, but as slowing down, goes into 2nd and sits there for ages - - - Updated - - - Oh and cheers matt p and chris88

  6. Lmao, as daft as that sounds... I guess it's happened at some point to somebody, but I didn't do it, took it to a garage, but he did put the oil where it should go and did put a fresh filter on. Although since then, it smokes and has a little splutter on start up and smells very rich. And the now gear problem. None of which happened before my oil change
  7. Not sure what the outcome is here, but I know of a guy on my round where I deliver who recons turbos (if that's the issue) as a hobby as he left his old place of work for a new job.

  9. Funny you say that, got a rear caliper at THE BRAKE CALIPER SPECIALISTS, only been there 14 months, the last time I spoke to them last July, I was told I should contact them ask where they have put it as it never arrived.... I work for the courier, and have proof it made it there safely

  11. Hello again all, so, done brakes, took it for ab oil change, now this morning a new problem arises. My car is just ab auto N/A, on the way to work, half way there it decided that second gear is all it would reach for quite a few miles, then finally decided to change into 3rd, and that was that, so at very low speed all the way to work I was stuck at either 5+k revs in 2nd or 4+k in 3rd. It's never done this before. On a separate note, I was also surprised when I turned up at the garage while oil change was being done, that the guy would need my fuse box cover off?!

  13. Jesus, just started with a new problem... Anybody know why all the way to work my car was at nearly 4k revs?
  14. Well my alarm did kill my battery not so long back, had to take it out and charge it. But does that cause the rich stink and black smoke? I've looked at vac pipes and all looks good, none loose, no splits etc
  15. Cheers baldy, I'm guessing there wouldn't be any under the car near where filter is? It's starting to level out now on idle instead of going up to 2k idle. But on startup it's a bit spluttery, another thing it never did before the garage did my oil change
  16. Brakes sorted. Pistons where all the way out. Nothing a G clamp and a piece of wood couldn't fix. Not bad for my first brake replacement. Any ideas why the car is running so rich? Can smell it a mile off

  18. I'll have to look over the weekend. It's been doing it on and off for a little while. But doesn't seem to want to go down in idle just goes up.

  20. Hi guys, had oil change at weekend, not driven car as it's got no back brakes at the moment. Started it today and on startup, it's throwing out some really black smoke. Any ideas? Also over the last week or two, when the car is warming up, instead of dropping revs once warmed, it's going up to 2k revs Many thanks Shaun

    Calipers

    Whatever you do, do not use the "brake caliper specialists" That would be a big mistake! Talking from experience. Just a heads up
  24. Right, done the r/h bearing, replaced both rear shocks, spun the n/S wheel (no problem there) o/s brake, either caliper or handbrake seems a little crappy, although all recently replaced, and still got the same noise and feel. So, unless the front has a dodgy bearing and it's vibrating to the back (unlikely) then I guess the hub is the answer..... More cash I don't have right now
