Would anyone know if I where looking at needing a new ecu? Or possibly ignition switch? Also, error 22 has been replaced by 12
-
Morning all. Wanted to give you an update. Done some testing, coil works, igniter works, checked igt signal from ecu harness, that's reading (.050-ish). Did the igt lead from igniter to coil, that works. Yet still no spark when all put back together. Also, I'm not sure if this helps, but I keep getting error 22 and my ignition barrel light won't go out when there's no key in it and doors are closed.q

Ah cheers Chris

Cheers guys. I'll look into those points Chris. I know it was a bit of a rambling on, but the main issue I guess is, theres no spark at all from the king lead. Yet I have replaced all replaceable parts, 2x igniter modules, coil pack, leads, full dizzy, plugs. Straight away with all parts replaced, with an effort, it finally came to life, not perfectly, but ran, but each time I touched the accelerator it would die. I'm not sure if this info makes any difference but, I tested the plug to the igniter module, obviously the central wire (b/o) is constant power, and seems fine, then there's the b/r wire but can't remember what it is, both run from the module to coil, power still feels that direction too. But just out of curiosity, I tested the module for ground, no issue there. What I thought was strange is, the central pin in the modules socket that receives the power, shows a faint ground too.. I doubt it is a module problem if indeed this isn't normal, as all 3 modules I've used showed the same. Thanks rider, can't say I've ever been on a forum that's ever been any friendlier

Not yet, it's a clifford but doesn't have immobiliser pedro

Thanks rider. Done compression test. Fuel pump still strong and feeding fuel. Just doesn't want to spark from the main coil lead. But as I say, I've replaced every single thing beyond the ignition barrel running all the way to the spark plugs. I say two years, but that's just the starting it up issue, a year and half before that was a gearbox problem, which I am not sure if it's resolved now because I can't drive the damn thing

So, due to circumstances, not really had the pennies to be able to afford a mechanic to sort out the supe, so very slowly when I've actually had a whole 5 minutes, I've done bits and bobs myself. But my mechanical skills stretch not much further than changing a wheel, plus the odd things over picked up over the years. So, for the issue I'm having, originally it started having a hissy fit when trying to start it, sometimes it would, sometimes not at all for days. I narrowed it down myself to possibly being the igniter module. I bought another, and it did seem to make a little difference as it would now attempt to start. Since that point I have replaced everything to do with the ignition except for the barrel and key. Two weeks ago, it finally fired up and ran on idle after a little tweaking with timing gun. From there, when starting first time during a day, it would be a big struggle, once fired up, idling seemed to be running the opposite way around. Low start, turning to high idle. Now, I'm back to square one, no spark from coil. I know nothing about the electrical side of the car, but I am aware the central wire going into the igniter module is constant power, can't remember which, either black/red or black/orange. Both of these wires run to the coil pack, one of these is constant still and sending power. I decided to buy another igniter module hoping this was my problem again. Nope, the car turns and such, but still no spark.

Also, could a member of staff please move this to technical please as Mark suggested. Many thanks
-
Ah ok, well I actually mean, the pin connections in the igniter it's self, where you plug into it. The igniter itself is earthed to the top of the nearside wing. There are 5 wires running to the plug, the central one being the live, so, the central pin in the igniter socket receives power, now surely it shouldn't be feeding earth back from the igniter module where it receives the power?

I guess I'm not the only one who's electrically challenged
-
Haha no worries pal, appreciate the help of course
-
ahhh cheers buddy but thats not the igniter module, this is the part:

Once again I think I might need an igniter module for my J-spec NA. The central pin that receives the power, when checking, seems to be earthing, I'm no mechanic or auto electrician, but I presume this shouldn't happen. I've no idea what could cause it either. If anyone has one for sale I would be grateful. I've looked online etc and best quote 2nd hand was 110, I think someone is having a laugh at that price when i bought one from a member for £15. Many thanks Shaun

Hi all. Not so long back I bought an igniter module from a member as it seemed mine was causing my fault and wasn't starting. I found the central pin that receives the power from the plug had earth running out from it. Finally a year later I've gotten it up and running, I seem to have the exact same issue. Any ideas what could be causing this? And am I going to need to source another? I desperately want the car running asap as it's been sat 3 years now. Thanks guys

Hi guys, so my supra has been off the road for a good part of almost 2 years. Finally had it running, timed up and replaced entire ignition system. Started and ran the last 3 days the first turn of the key. Today... Not so much. Cranking fine etc, teasing a start now and then, at extremely low rev, soon as touch the peddle, dies. Any help appreciated. Cheers guys

How much matey?

Looking for a price for an alternator replacement for mine as it's only running about 9.5. Many thanks in advance

Desperately looking for an ignitor for my NA. This is the one fitted: Thanks in advance

I'll get some tonight. Obviously if cat has collapsed, the pressure build up is mental, and I agree it could be power steering pipe, but don't get why that would have been affected
-
Phew, I was hoping it would be that. Looks like I'll be hunting for power steering pipes now :-( There was a patch for sure! But it didn't seem big enough for it to be anything else really, it spewed onto the floor, then just dripped, not like an oil slick if had been anything else. It's bent right up between the fan blades
-
This is obviously just a guess, but the pipe in question is at the front lower area and I think is/should be connected beneath the pulleys
-
I'd say after all the drama, even though I'm the least mechanically minded person I know, that yes, it HAS to be the cat that's caused me so much stress and anger. Obviously, the car hasn't ran at all long enough for me or anyone else to draw it down to the glowing molten first cat. The only other visible damage we could see, as 4am was closing in and hours of endless stress, was a large oil patch and a pipe (not sure what pipe as not looked) was bent up in the way of the fan

So, had a few crappy months with the supra, when I say a few, I mean it's probably done 60 miles in 14 months. First started as a gearbox problem which (fingers crossed has been resolved). Which then led to very poor idling, then bad misfiring, until eventually not wanting to start at all. Read my error codes, got advice from a few helpful as always members of this forum. Replaced a few bits here and there, which to be honest, where most likely the original parts from 23 years ago so where probably due to be changed anyway. But, after doing these odd bits and bobs, still nothing, until last night! The car was towed over to a garage I know and we Both got cracking on with it. Fired up a few times, sometimes running rough, sometimes sounding sweet, either way,at 2k rpm, instant cut out. Tried one more time, it fired up! A little rough, but running, my mate ran over to his tool chest to grab a spanner to loosen the distributor to adjust the timing, just as he turned to come back over, all of a sudden, smoke starts to appear from under the hood... He ran over, I switched supra off, both get straight under the hood. Now picture, those old-school fellas who enjoy a bit of the old "glass blowing", molten glass, glowing an extreme orange, and slowly expanding... Then imagine that as a CAT on my car...
