  1. Another vote for: MEGUIARS PLASTX Car Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish Works a treat on rear lights and indicators too.
  2. Still for sale? If so, I'll take it please.
  3. If you change your mind, please let me know. I have an RS*R ExMag GT-2 that you might be interested in for a swap (maybe too loud?) ... cheers Ordered a Tanabe Touring Medallion ...
  4. I just got mine from here: TOYOTA SUPRA 97-98 CLEAR SIDE/FRONT BUMPER LIGHTS who are prepared to ship internationally and take PayPal (the other member wouldn't despite what the ad. might say). Also a bit cheaper, although the P&P seemed expensive ($30) but was actually correct (according to the USPS label on the box when it arrived). They arrived within 10 days and even came with bulbs, albeit the orange ones. I'm happy to stick with these but I can see that if you're not into that "fried egg" look (and have maybe pulled the amber part out of your facelift front indicators), you might be binning these anyway. They look great on but, at least if you have the SMIC, can be a b1tch to fit. If you're undecided on bulb colour, I would stongly advise NOT changing your mind after fitting them. Whilst we're on the subject of oBoy bargains, against my better judgement, I bought these: H.I.D Conversion XENON KIT HID H4 H8 D2R D2S 9005 9006 because for the money (£15 although here the P&P is a rip-off), I thought where could I go wrong? Especially when I "invested" in this to go with it: HID Fuse Relay Wiring Harness Lighting Headlight Lamp Frankly, given the source, I was amazed with the quality of both items: the HID kit was overengineered if anything; the wiring kit made fitting a doddle (meant I could put the ballast units where I wanted - loads of room under the lights and 'stealth' too); result was amazing and that's just with 4300K (OEM) bulbs too ...
  5. The late model RZ (and SZ-R) had "Sports ABS" as standard; option on other models but goes hand-in-hand with bigger wheels/brake upgrade (if factory fitted). The difference between Sports ABS and standard is the addition of a G-sensor, to detect and factor in 'sideways' forces on the car. One way to determine if you have Sports ABS fitted is to look for a module (the G-sensor) bolted to the transmission tunnel, just behind the traction control switch (active spoiler switch) on the dashboard; in front of ABS ECU. Incidentally, one other way to determine if your late model Supra is an RZ or RZ-S is the texture of your handbrake sleeve - 'leather' means RZ; all rubber means RZ-S.
  6. Before getting too technical, might be worth checking the wheel nuts are all tight. Could they have taken the wheels off to adjust handbrake maybe?
  7. I would say that's up to you/the seller - if you're happy driving the car on the original plate for a few weeks and wait up to 8-12weeks (could really take this long!) before you have the car registered in your name (and happy to tell your insurer) ... That's a worst-case scenario if putting the plate onto retention, IMO. If the seller can transfer the reg. to another vehicle, it should be just a couple of weeks before they have the new V5C that they can use to transfer the vehicle to you.
  8. Yep - I've just put a 'cherished' number on retention and it took 4 weeks from the date of application before I received notice that it had been approved, with notification of replacement number, etc. It took a further 2 weeks for me to receive the amended V5C and yet a further 2 weeks before I received the certificate of retention. I think this used to be an 'over-the-couner' service (like cherished transfer) but is now a royal PITA and, at least in my case, took 8 weeks.
  9. Then it is their responsibility to put it on retention (takes weeks) or transfer it to another vehicle (relatively quick) before they transfer ownership (you become registered as new keeper) ... or they lose it!
  10. Not sure - the one with all the tools in it (plus the tools themselves) is what I'm after. A bit of a BUMP as I see that somebody else is after more or less the same.
  11. Sorry - should have made that clear - VVTi.
  12. Well, I can confirm that the Intelligent Informeter is compatible with the VVTi (having tried it on mine) so I suspect that the Eco Gauge would be too. See Greddy Informeter - does it work on our suprae? for more details.
  13. After finding this old thread ('tps' Problem - Case Notes - indicating that there was indeed an OBDII port on the VVTi), I'd thought I'd give a Intelligent Informeter a try. Found a 'new' one going cheap on oBoy (the original purchaser had bought it for his Nissan, only to discover that it had a non-OBDII compliant, aftermarket ECU fitted). At first I thought I was going to struggle to get it to work because the port pictured in the thread above (round one) looked nothing like the plug on the Informeter. However, after reading that thread in more detail, I realised that the OBDII port is quite literally next to the bonnet release: you just can't see it very well in the picture; I've attached another which hopefully shows it a bit better. So, plugged in OK and, with the key in the ACC position, the Informeter turned on but reported a 'no communication' error. A quick check of the set-up revealed that it was still set to a Nissan protocol so I changed to Toyota but still no joy. However, turning the key to ON position suddenly brought the thing to life. OK, so this things a bit of a toy but it's pretty cool actually, IMO. It does all sorts of graphical representations of gauges and monitors (and can warn on) any parameters that the ECU knows about and transmits to OBDII. For instance, straightaway I could see that the temperature of the coolant and the air intake was 43 deg. Farenheit before I'd even started the car! Once running, I could see ignition advance, speed (in mph or kmh - could be used to avoid having to use a speedo converter?) and revs as well. I'm not sure (because I haven't played with it much yet) but I'll probably be able to see other things too: battery voltage, injector cycle (?), oxygen(?), EGT (not sure if the OEM ECU measures this) ... I'll let you know.
  14. Yeah - thanks. I probably wouldn't have had the confidence to try them if it wasn't for your feedback either. For me, or more specifically, my car - more or less stock and no intention to change that (how many members start off saying that I wonder? ) - it's a good find. Of course, I'd still use a Supra 'expert' if I thought I had a model-specific problem or needed anything other than regular servicing. I should mention that I did contact Michel Lane who was very helpful and quotes were good. The only reason I chose not to use him this time was because Darlington would have meant a day-trip for me.
  15. Picked the car up this morning, after leaving the car with this independent Toyota place in Crosshills (between Skipton, Keighley & Colne). I was away from home all week so I just left the car with them. I've only recently acquired this VVTi from another club member who I think maybe had done some of the servicing himself. I don't have a problem with that but I just wanted a good 'starting point' for my period of ownership. So I asked them to give the car a full service (I mean all the normal stuff but changing all the cars bodily fluids too) and timing belt change. I thought the VVTi might stump them when it came to changing the timing belt but they weren't at all phased (pardon the pun) - I guess the VVTi system isn't so uncommon on other Toyotas these days. Anyway, they did all the work I asked with no drama (the pulley bolt was a pig to get off but they knew it would be) and MOT'd it too. I was very impressed and thought I'd just put in a good word for them here in case anyone was looking for reliable, no-nonsense servicing in this area. P R Autos Ian is the man there - nice guy and honest. If you decide to give them a try, mention the forum. Obviously they can get parts but they're more than happy for you to provide your own if you think you can get them cheaper. Hope that helps!
  16. Just like this one: Racetech Turbo Boost Gauge Fitted by previous owner who was planning to go BPU but never did. Comes in its own pod/housing with hinged mounting plate (sticky pad - still sticky! - and screws) and hose T-piece. Mechanical gauage but can be wired for back-light. Free to a good home if you'll contribute £5 towards P&P.
  17. Found this in an old thread: 'tps' Problem - Case Notes
  18. Let me start by saying that I am in no way affiliated with this company, just really impressed by their service. I'd been thinking for a while that the piece of black insulating tape stuck over the "k" in "km/h" was a pretty tacky (pardon the pun) way on getting my speedo to show mph. So I ordered a replacement speedo dial face for my VVTi from the Metal Monkey website: Metal Monkey Supra Straightaway I got an e-mail from Naomi at MM saying they'd received my order and another when it was dispatched (recorded delivery). The quality of the product and the fitting kit becomes apparent as soon as you open the envelope and it even comes with Supra specific instructions. I had a little trouble with the speedo needle (that needs to be removed) but this was overcome with judicious use of cocktail sticks However, when reassembling the dash. it became apparent that the bezel (that surrounds all the gauges) was partially obscuring the "MPH" lettering on the new speedo dial face. Particulalrly annoying as this is the main reason I'd changed the dial! I sent an e-mail off to Naomi to see if a corrected replacement was obtainable, fully expecting the answer to be, "No, sorry" but to my surprise the very quick response was, "No problem. Just give us a few weeks to manufacture it". Very impressed by this company's customer oriented attitude. I'll let you know how I get on with the replacement speedo dial face when it arrives. Maybe I'll be able to persuade them to create a matching rev counter dial face for the VVTi tiptronic ...
  19. Did you ever get a definitive response/answer on this? Thanks
  20. I have the foam piece on the right with jack etc. but I'm missing the one on the left hand side and, therefore, all the tools that go in it. Thanks
  21. Sorry - is this another case of "Should've done a search!"? Of course, I know it's not very original - it's a reproduction after all. I'm already getting the impression that this isn't such a great idea, which is fine - I wanted the feedback.
  22. Yep - realised that just after I'd submitted it (doh!). Thanks for the input though.
