  1. I believe Chris Wilson now sells decat pipes for the N/A, to replace both cats.

    How lardy ?

If it does then I'm stripping the interior.
  3. Theres's a little peg by the zero, that the needle rests against. You might hit this if you take it all the way round.
  4. Exactly how long a burnout are you planning to do then? I managed about 7 or 8 burnouts, each lasting 10-15 seconds before my stock and very old brake fluid boiled up. Just use the left foot braking technique as taught to me by Mr. Branners of the Internet.
  5. So what you're saying is...if a cambelt snaps under duress, thats it. Thats all the damage that will occur. Sounds like a marvellous piece of design work. Must be a downside though?
  6. 60,000 miles/100,000 km is the life expectancy of the factory fitted belt, which I think, coincides with the old "C" service. If you're getting close then I advise changing it. 24 valves hitting 6 pistons is a lot of money What was wrong with timing chains eh?
  7. Further to my last thread, where it was generally agreed to be the belt in need of replacing, I still haven't got round to doing anything, but now when I start the engine it takes about 10 seconds for the power steering to work then the squeaking starts. Is this still the belt? i.e. do you think the belt isn't being driven properly until it picks up after 10 seconds? or something worse as the lights come on if I try to turn the wheel during that initial moment.

    BOV for an NA

This sort of thing does us N/A owners no favours. Nice pink box though, would look great under the bonnet when you show it to the person you've just been racing.
  9. Similar question to Flip, I know I will want one but not just yet
  10. Many thanks. I reckon I can change the belt myself, but having had a good look under the bonnet, I can't work out where the tensioner is or indeed if a component like the alternator acts as a tensioning device. Any advice before I trawl thorugh the MKIV.com microfiche thingy.
  11. I,ve been getting the old fan belt squeak/squeal for a few weeks now, and put it down to the general damp weather. The squeal mainly comes when turning the steering wheel, but yesterday it would also occur when I turned the AC on, all of which makes me think the belt is worn. BUT...yesterday whilst peforming a three point turn, the power steering felt very stiff, not so stiff that it had completely failed though, and at full lock, the battery light, cat temp light and the oil level light came on. Power steering fluid level was ok. Is the pump on the way out?
  12. No, it's not a targa. I was very impressed though. Have to admit that I really don't like being under a car on axle stands. All I could hear was Michael Buerks voice and that "ticking" music "By now he had been trapped under the crushing weight for two hours, and his girlfriend was still in the bath, with the radio on."

    Brake fluid

One other thing, is it possible to change/bleed the brakes without removing the wheels? i.e. has anyone done it or is it a right pig?
  14. Tried and failed to get the old exhaust off today, mainly because there wasn't much room under the car on axle stands, and I couldn't get the spannerage. But what a stiff chassis the Supra has, it will stand on two axle stands at the front and a jack at one side at the rear with all four wheels off the ground.

    Brake fluid

The little piece of paper that comes with Castrol SRF says to change it every 18 months. I presume that is for racing conditions only, as it designed for racing conditions so it should last a fair bit longer as a road use fluid. Unless it is dramatically hydrophilic. I put it in last Autumn so its too early to tell yet. What you need is someone like Chris Wilson to tell you.
  16. Thanks for the offer Chris, but I'll check under car tomorrow to see where the hole is, most likely to be the junction between cat pipe and backbox pipe. Trouble is the car currently does 1.5 miles to work and then 1.5 miles back, which is bad news as I am sure you know.
  17. Seriously Andy? The stuff I've been using to do my bath two weeks ago will take all that heat? How short term is short term though, as I want to go to Bolney from Dartford, but then onto Brighton to meet our gay wedding cake designer. As for belts, it's been very damp today. I wonder if I put the bonnet seal on the right way after removing/refitting the liner last week? I'll give Francescas idea a go though.
  18. All the bloody drive belts are screeching now, so looks like I'll have to turn up to Bolney in the German car now. Typical. UK's biggest Jap car meet and mine throws in the towel.
  19. Are those Halfords type temporary exhaust repairs suitable for the massive Supra backthrust? My pipe is blowing somewhere between the joint betwixt 5-Zigen backbox and standard downpipe. I'm thinking of the wraparound foil things that jubilee clip on, on whether it will last a week.

    Bonnet Liner

No, under the front spoiler. Will put a rear one on sometime in the future, and maybe a little one in the front air intake.

    Bonnet Liner

Cos I broke all the clips removing it to fit me new illuminated washer sprays. I have now bought some replacement clips so everything in the garden is allright. Fitted a neon strip as well. Rudebwoooiiii.
  22. The bonnet liner is lined with glass fibre, which I presume is there for heat insulation. Are there any pitfalls in removing it? i.e will the paint craze on the top of the bonnet etc?
  23. When I bought my Supra, the garage owner told me it had no alarm fitted because there is no car crime in Japan to speak of, somrthing to do with Samurai honour or summat Obviously bo***cks that I swallowed hook, line and sinker, that I have now realised since the Quentin Wilson TV prog, with the Dubai connection for stolen Jap cars. Still, he got me to pay £500 for an alarm/immobiliser

    Crower Cams

At the risk of hi-jacking the thread..... Anyone know if it's a bad idea to expose the cam pulleys for day-to day driving. I want to cut a slot out of my cam cover.
  25. Given what happened on that U.S. Volkswagon forum, You'll probably get threatened with legal action now, for daring to speak the truth. I had a Toyota dealer twat about with my brakes and the rear offside started to spray Castrol SRF all over the wheel. If I wasn't so busy at work I would use Leon for servicing now.
