I was chatting to one of the JIC chaps today about the very same thing, he didn't think a turbo upgrade was the way to go either - he did reckon that a supercharger would give a nice performance upgrade without having to do too much work on the car.

Technically I know nothing so I have no idea what kind of performance this would give or the cost, all he did say was that it was significantly cheaper than a turbo upgrade.

Packaging nightmare though, surely?

 

There's room for a big single on the exhaust side, and the induction pipes over the top of the engine, but I would have thought that an SC would really want to sit on the intake side, where there is less room. Plus you have to drive the thing...

faye - that sounds like not too bad an idea. a paxton or jackson racing unit may give some lower down ooomph and it develops boost immediately i think unlike turbos. apparently, IIRC, there was a stateside supra that was running a s/c system, NOS and turbos as well. god knows how it would work though ...

The more I think about it the more I want to keep my car rather than change to an non aero TT ( I would want a 98 onwards Supe and I've been told that there are no aeros from then) . Just like Reg its just starting to look how I want it to plus how unusual would a supercharged NA aerotop be?

 

Roy, cheers for those links I'll have a look through, my only problem is that I'm kinda relying on technically minded people telling me what I need ( plus of course funds!!!)

Suprastore & Titanmotorsports don't sell the turbo kits anymore. I really looked into turbo kits for the N/A when i had my car, but i decided to sell and buy a TT. Much less hassle but it would be fun (i guess) to do a NA-T conversion. http://www.powerhouseracing.com do a kit for $5200 which they reckon gives 350bhp, and a 13.5 quarter mile time tested....And then theres Boostlogic, http://www.boostlogic.com they are designing a kit as we speak. Everyone on Supraforums reckon it's the best one to go for!

 

These companies also do fuel upgrades like new fuel rail, bigger injectors, walbro fuel pumps etc to up the power. But you have to remember theres loads of companys in America who have done these converions, but nobody over here has so it could be expensive.....

Putting a TT lump in may not be too bad. If you can get a complete uk engine with turbo's and injectors, there are a good few stock 6 speed ecu's kicking about in the US now, then you would need a loom, and an uprated clutch ( the 5 speed will cope to a moderate level of power).

 

It would still be cheaper to sell it and get a TT though.

It would be good fun wouldn't it! I don't know if I will do it yet, I'm just toying with some ideas.

Not sure if buying a TT would work out good value for money as I paid over the odds for my NA and the amount I would lose selling it would be criminal - I might as well keep ploughing money into a car I know and love!!!!!! ( Female logic- works for me!!!):D

It can be done!

 

And it has!

 

And you can get high boost pressure running without farting with the internals!

 

Supercharging is not a valid option!

 

Nitrous Oxide is also possible(and has been done)!

 

A turbo conversion is also not that big a drama everyone here thinks, actually it's quite simple!

 

It is also not expensive, you can get drivable high BHP(more than a BPU twin) for under 5K.(all in)

Nitrous would give you 300bhp and only cost about £500, then £300 for clutch and £200 for it to be fitted. So £1000 and you could put 75bhp through it and have just over 300bhp

 

Much better option, then when you come to sell it you can strip it off. People might be put off by a conversion NA
