The same rumours were said about Methanol.

Andy.F a renowned Subaru tuner, went on to test the theory by leaving some fuel parts soaked in a tub of methanol for a pretty long amount of time, and the only effect was that they were alot cleaner at the end of it... ;)

Wow so I have been conned by the marketing hype of V-Power, with is in built cleaners. :( Interesting. But is shell fuel less likely to be dodgy? I remeber that bad fuel scare a while back, don't know if tesco fuel was involved or not, but I think shell fuel was safe.

There is no evidence of the long term effects of using any of these fuels. Marginal power gains are not as important as longevity of the engine.

I would recommend everyone uses a premium fuel every few fill ups to clean the engine as I doubt the supermarket fuels are particularly good at this.

Texaco's SUL is the best "cleaner" out there followed by VPower...
