Does anyone know if the Sup's got a form of fuel cutoff device in case of an accident?... As the engine looks untouched, apart fron the black box behind the battery, what's that?...

 

The starter spins fine, and the clutch and GBox are OK - But it doesn't fire up... I spluttered it for about 50m from the crash to get somewhere safe, which made me think about a fuel cutoff...

Update : The bodyshop fella came out tonight (Thankfully a down to earth 'tell it how it is' guy) - And it turns out, the smack it had in Japan (Which JodyT pointed out for me), is a lot more serious than a few bodypanels... However we're all confident that a good job can be made of it all, and it'll be back in full effect again :)

 

(PS - Cheers to Mac for driving up here this morning from Devon to deliver my bumper, you're a star, and thanks for letting me have my first drive in a TT, so much different to my NA!!)...

Sorry to see this mate, amazing just how much these cars crunch up from an impact but that is what they are designed to do to keep us safe. Although when my crash happened I would have gladly taken a broken bone or two instead of the damage to the car. ;)

 

You didnt crash the Tango did you ?????

I'm going to be going through the non-insurance route

 

Is it a requirement that you have to tell your insurance company of a accident does anyone know......

 

I have an issue with a crashed Supra that has expired past its 6 month deadline to get the private reg transferred. DVLA said they would still let me do it, providing the insurance company write a letter saying that they are not interested in the car or reg. The insurance company said they wouldnt do this as they were never informed. I said to them I may have to have insurance legally, but surely its my discreation if I choose to use them or not for my own losses.....????

Is that the case? As I always thought it was along the lines of 'Claims or Convictions'?... No-one was hit, maybe a bit of property (A sign) ((And a temporary sign advertising an event IIRC)), and as there was no personal injury to me or a 3rd party, do I really have to declare it?...

An update, as it's been a bloody long time...

 

Well, she's been in the bodyshop for the past few months, I've got all of the bits, and have got a few more so she'll look rather different when she's fixed (Yes, she's a she, the awkward bitch :))

 

It's turned out that although the situation (A year ago) was that the bumper bar was untouched, the car was smashed up in Japan, and I bought a very well done bodge :( - The chassis arm was bent, the NSF inner wing, and during the time it's spent in the bodyshop another bend's been found...

 

It is getting jigged, and I know for the ££ that I'm spending I could have found another one, but I've dreamt of having a Sup as soon as I saw my first one, so I won't give up on this one, a bit of a childhood dream (Well, young manhood dream :))

 

The fella working on it is taking the piss with the amount of effort he's putting into it, but his work is excellent, although I'm not allowed to go down there (He's my old man's recommendation) as I'm fuming about the time it's taking...

 

I've got a nice list of things to do to her, figured I'd do them whilst this is being done, got a whole load of bits already, and thanks to everyone who's helped me out so far with their help or bits :)

 

Still a few months to go though, if this bodyshop's anything to go by!...

Bloody hell looks I missed some local Chelt action last year. I did dedicate 2007 to motorbiking to satisfy my mid-life crisis. That roundabout. I know it well. That's where I stuffed my Supe back in Dec 2005 on ice/snow. Hope you get it back on the roads ASAP. Which spayshop are you using? I had a great quote from a place at the back of Innsworth Tech park if they're still in business. Nationwide crash repairs up at Athelney Way (?) off Hales Rd did a great match on the metallic storm blue.

Over a year to do the repair! (I'm assuming it went into the bodyshoop soon after the accident)

 

It's been a hell of a hassle so far... It took me until the start of the year to get all of the bits I needed, and went into the bodyshop around 6 months ago (Burts in Cheltenham (By Matalan) a backstreet garage, but recommended by my Dad as he's had a few cars repaired there...)

 

Anyhow, it's still there, they're really dragging their heels with it... Admittedly they did discover that I bought a bent one that had been smashed up in Japan, and very well bodged, so I've been having that done too...

 

It had to go somewhere else as it was decided to get it jigged so it was perfectly straight, but as an example of how slow Burts is, it took them nearly 2 weeks to pick it up from there... Now we're on the phone to them every other day nagging, and I'll be dropping in randomly to give them some pressure... All it needs is the slam panel welding on, and the front end bolting back together... And then the MOT :S

 

Thankfully I've been collecting some new bits in the meantime, wheels, exhaust and so on, and I'll be going for a full colour change and some bodykit (Once I decide what skirts to get), so it'll be rather different...

 

And thanks for the various sprayshop recommendations, I'll be checking them out once the car's in one piece, with the crapness of Burt's timekeeping I wouldn't want to give any sprayshop hassle by getting caught up in it at this point...

Another update... After about 8 months in the garage, mostly brand new parts, and £650 on jigging at another bodyshop (A very impressive Jag specialist), I nip in for a surprise visit, and I'm really glad to see it's all in one piece (apart from 1 bar on the bumper), and it's meant to be off to MOT tomorrow :)

 

Until I look at the front of it... The pictures don't show the whole blatantness of it, even a guide dog could spot how bad it still looks... The bonnet around the NS headlight is pressed down right over the headlight and is nearly touching the wing, there's a massive gap under the OS headlight, and when up, the bonnet rubs on the OS wing by the windscreen...

 

His excuses are 1) You should feel lucky we got it this far 2) That's the rubber pushed back under the OS headlight 3) (When I point out the rubber round the headlight isn't meant to fill that gap) Well the bumper's obviously been in another crash hasn't it... 4) The bonnet's 3mm shorter than it should be (Is there any difference in length between UK Spec and J-Spec?)

 

P***ed off is an understatement, I know I shuold be happy it's getting close, but after the time he's taken (He's had it for around 8 months now), and the money spent just on jigging (With measurements from Toyota themselves) I'd have expected a lot better... I know the top bar on the bumper isn't fitted, but we pushed the bumper up and it doesn't make a difference...

The bumper isn't mounted properly, it should sit further back than that, which would explain the bad panel gaps.

 

As for the wing It's likely to be one of two things, either the flanges the headlamp connects too and pushed out of position or they've welded the repair panel in too high which is pushing the wing up.

 

Winds me up seeing things like this, it'd take no extra effort to do the job right in the first place :(

Thinking about what you've put Mr Homer, I can see exactly where you're coming from, that would certainly explain a whole lot!...

 

I know how you feel, I'm certainly wound up myself!... The fellas adamant that he's done all he can, I think I need to find a way of getting it checked out before any cash is handed over...
