Thinking of selling....

thing is i couldnt drive the astra always as an everyday car, its purely a run around. I work too hard to drive that as my main car. If i do this i'd probably sell that to. There is always time to be sensible yes, but i also said that 3 or 4 years ago ;) Think now is that time.

What would be a realistic figure to expect to get for my car. Difficult to say for those that havent seen it i know, so perhaps aimed more at those that have.

Mileage is about 68,000 and its a 96 facelift, auto, an extremely well cared for car with an extensive service history. I'm aware that cars generally get sold for less on here as well compared to say the autotrader.

I think if you are going to get rid of the supe cos it's too much cashola you should REALLY economise, else you'll not notice the difference much. Trust me, I had a 1.4 rover when it was first off the road and the difference allowed me to save up loads for my house deposit. Now I have a 2.5 Volvo, it's really not a lot off what the supe was costing me.

I know how you feel though. Mines gotta go this summer.

Or maybe http://www.I-must-tailgate.com

But on a more serious note, if you really want to save money I think you have to seriously consider what Supragal is saying with regards to just cutting down completely. All "big cars" are pricey to run - would you really notice that much difference in running costs with one of the beemers you've quoted? Stay in the fold, I saw your car at Phoenix a few weeks ago. It was looking good. :)

Do you guys really think something like a 528/525 is going to be expensive to run? in what way?

My loan would be halved, my insurance would be halved and i cant see i would be spending £60+ a week on fuel

LOL at the evo comment :)

in what way. They have the 5 green service lights and as far as it went on my old E30, it was:

oil change

small service

oil change

big service

oil change

small service

or something like that. I wouldnt use BMW, the same as i wouldnt use Toyota now, specialist charges are the same as what specialist chrages are for the supra per hour

Would it be possible for you to extend the loan period? Maybe cut the payments to half but pay it off over a longer period. (Obviously the final amount paid would be more, but over the course of a few years you'd maybe give yourself more breathing space.).......................

However, by reading the thread again I think you're just hankering after another beemer and would like us to give you our blessings. ;)

I think a lot about how I *should* be trying to get on the property ladder but at present it just won't happen - never in a month of Sundays. Unless I had a large deposit and my salary was at least double there's no way anyone would give me the mortgage I would need. Even if I did get it I'd not be able to afford anything - I'd merely be existing. The way I've decided to look at it recently is that I'm only young(ish) once and I may as well try to enjoy things now whilst I can. I pay approx £400 per month for rent etc(I know its dead money), but if I had a mortgage those costs would nearly double and I wouldn't be having much fun.

I'm not just after another beemer at all mate. Dont get me wrong i have no issue with my Supra, i love it. It does everything for me and its a really good example. But the costs of owning it are hampering me from 1, saving a deposit towards a house or just having any kind of savings at all, 2, enjoying some of the other good things life has to offer.

My car is costing me more a month than where i live and that just isnt right. I refuse to extend my loan period as that is just wasted money, it already has another 3 years to go. I can afford what i pay for my loan each month, but when the loan is added to the fuel and to the insurance it just all adds up. Up until now i've just accepted it, i always have doen with every car i've owned.

hmmm, i dont know, but i do know i wish i'd stopped smoking yesterday :)

I also think what Supragal said is spot on. If your not going to cut out the tasty cars altogether then it might not be worth your while. I wanted a 540 a couple of years ago and very nearly bought one, although i walked away at the last minute. One of the reasons was that all the ones which i went to see had a few problems with them.

Things like missing pixels on the dash display is a very common fault and costs a fortune to get fixed. From what i have read they do have a few issues which can be costly. Although i do really like them. The Lexus might be a better bet as it has been converted to LPG and it looks

The BM 528 MPG according to parkers is 26 for the auto and 29 for the manual, compared to 25 which it states for the Supra, not much of a saving there! Start putting the £3-4 a day away which you spent on smoking and it will soon build up!

Here are a few forums which i got info from when i was looking at the BM's:

E46Fanatics

BMWLand

Thanks James, good man

Been thinking about this while i was at the gym tonight. Its not really gona help me much saving wise is it. Like you say, either do it properly or dont both losing a good car that i already know and trust.

There is 1 car which i think could well fit the purpose and would also mean i could pay for it up front. A Golf GTI 1.8t A solid little car that should be fairly reliable, much better on fuel, but can also be fairly fun to drive for a year or so.

How does that sound?

Im with this man, and I have been thinking a lot at how much money I spend on the Supra, £1400 this month, £500 last month, god knows what next month, every month it is seriously like a mortgage payment or can be. But its my one enjoyment in life, and I would rather loose limbs then loose the car. In fact I pissed off the gf as I said I dont care whats happening friday Im going to get my car, she has been sat at Chris Wilsons ready with new shocks and so far I havent been able to get up to him either cause work or no one can take me, so this friday first oppurtunity Im hitch hiking, going by rail, growing wings out of my arse and flying there myself, I dont care, I want her back now........:(
