:D Well its not going to be any less is it! If its calculating a 25% less then the dyno is not configured corectly or the operator doesn't know what they're doing (or some cynics might say they bump the figures to keep the customer happy ;) )

18% absolute max for manual, IMO 12% is closer to reality

The customer has one hell of a fast car... ;)

You'll get used to the LHD aspect very quickly. There's plenty of specialists around the country too, so servicing shouldn't be an issue. Parts are absolutely dirt cheap! The insurance isn't too bad - I pay about the same for my '04 registered C5 convertible as I did for my '95 Supra TT.

You'll be pushed to see another 'Vette on the roads more than once every few months and it certainly gets as many (ok - slightly more!) looks than the Supra. Then there's the grunt off idle and the sound of a V8 with Borla exhaust!! Oh - and don't believe anyone when they say the 'Vette doesn't handle - it most certainly handles! I have Ohlins suspension on my Supra and the 'vette is most certainly better on the twisties.

Don't get me wrong - the Supe is a great car for its' age and I still love mine to death, but things move on.

Meant to say - I use my Corvette as a daily driver at the moment too. :D :d :D

Thanks for an idea - sounds very good. LHD is not a problem for me - I'm originally from EE country so my first car was LHD. And I'm also travelling to France & Germany quit often, so it might be also helpfull.

If insurance & repair parts are not so bad as I thought it might be an option.

Anyway was looking for new car for my missus (she fancies old Boxster - I hate them), so may convience her to get a 'Vette - it is almost the same money

Pretending that it is for her (she likes the design so might accept) and try it for myself as daily driver...;)

You do know that some j-specs have passenger airbags, right?

Not that I really understand it being a deal-breaker anyway.

Yeah, I think late GZ's, am I right? :search:

If you want any advice on where to go, feel free to pm me. I may be able to point you in the right direction.

A Y2k C5 LS1 can be got for about 19k for a nice one now. If you want the Z06, you'll pay extra but it could be worth it for the power!

Yup and then edited it, its the Viper GTS which has 420, I always thought the Z06 was like that but it was less, more performance savings in the weight.

Nice to hear you got a C5 Vette Brian, my uncles been through a few of them thanks to working for GM and he really enjoyed them. :)

i gotta ask

What is the deal with the insurance in the UK ???

is there a horsepower limit due to age fact or something or do you have to pay more when the car has more horsepower ? or maybe i´m misunderstanding something.

i live in Iceland btw and i´m 21 years old and a own a Supra TT 6-speed with a BL71 GTS Single Turbo kit and all supporting mods, Fuel System , AEM EMS, 264 Cams and so on

About 500-580rwhp on pump and 700-800rwhp on race gas

and i pay the same insurance as i would pay if it was a Stock supra

Hi There,

It is a completely different insurance market here in the UK sadly. It is not so much the horses under the bonnet as the perceived risks to either the car being stolen, going wrong, causing an accident, hitting an expensive car, causing legal/liable damage to third parties, car desirability, insert fudge factor N that the insurance companies think of! Horses under the bonnet tend to put restrictions on age and experience of driver rather than policy amount and what it covers. In Iceland you have less than 600k people, total? Is that right (last count) (I used to date a girl from Iceland ;)) - Here in greater London alone you tend to get in excess of 9million folks - so the markets can't really be equated :(

Cheers bud - p.s. where in Iceland are you from?

Si.

Ebay is your friend, there are great equal length manifolds now for 300$

Check out the one I got from one of the guys form the supra forums http://zazzn.dyndns.org/upload Now for the turbo if you are looking for fast spool and good mid power turbo I'd recommend a 61MM turbo from precision turbo.... no DDB to keep down the budget... As for the auto get a mild upgrade to the valve body, and a oil cooler for the tans and it should hold up to about 450-500 WHP daily. so far that would probably set you back about 2500pound considering duty taxes and shipping.

Finally, look in to the 12/24/4" intercooler kits on ebay for 200$ and the 3" aluminum piping.... get someone to assemble that for you locally probably 600pound total (intercooler 200$ and pipes 100$)

Now upgrade your injectors to the US/UK Spec 550's and get a resistor pack you should be goo to put just under 525 WHP safely!

Car will be insanely fun and reliable.

Alex I think only you can answer the question about which option to go with. Modifying or going single on a Supra will never make financial sense, but we do it because it is something we get pleasure out of and are passionate about doing for some crazy reason.

A genuine 500-550hp Supra will be an awesome road car and I'd personally prefer that than a bog standard Porsche any day.

I'd be very cautious about buying a Supra that has already been converted, unless I knew it's history. I would much prefer to do the conversion myself, choose the parts to use and know the job has been done right, but this is obviously going to cost a lot more to do, but should be the more satisfying option.

If money is the main factor buy a Porsche, etc. run it for a while, get bored of it, sell it, get most of your money back and move on

If you do love your Supra, throw money at it, get it how you want it and enjoy it :ecstatic:

Hey there,

lol you are right, as of December 2006 estimated population of : 307,261. Maybe I was getting mixed up with greenland or maybe just wishful thinking ;).. or was it that every bugger when I was last there seemed to be pregnant and I thought you guys had doubled in population by now!!!!

I know people in Akranes but I think you are a little further north east than that? (well it wouldn't be west as that would just be ocean lol).

:D
