10 things you didn't know about your cat

Cats have more than one hundred vocal sounds, while dogs only have about ten.

Cats do not have a collarbone, which allows them to fit through any opening the size of their head.

Their field of vision doesn't extend directly below their nose, that's why it's sometimes hard for cats to find tit-bits on the floor.

Meowing is reserved for humans. A cat will almost never meow at another cat.

A frightened cat can run at speeds of up to 31 mph, slightly faster than a human sprinter.

A group of cats is called a clowder.

Cats do not see themselves as little people but see us as big cats. This influences their behaviour.

Like humans, cats can be either left or right-pawed.

Studies have shown that cats have better memories than dogs. A dog's memory lasts 5 minutes while a cat's memory lasts up to 16 hours!

Cats purr at 26 cycles per second, this is the same pace as an idling diesel engine.

Unless like one of my cats they are fatter than their head...

Lots will meow whilst shagging, but I'm not sure if that is aimed at the other cat or not, or even if they just fake it...

When cats walk or run, they step with both left legs, then both right legs, and so forth.

Cats are capable of jumping 5 times as high as they are tall.

When grooming, cats lose almost as much fluid through saliva as they do when they urinate.

Nearly 30% of a cat's life is spent grooming itself.

Cats' brains are more similar to the human brain than they are to dogs. In fact, cats and humans have identical regions in the brain responsible for emotion.

Did you know............?????

Greyhounds can run up to 45 miles an hour for very short periods.

Dogs have 42 teeth, cats about 30.

Dogs and humans are the only animals with prostates.

The dalmatian dog originate from Dalmatian coast of Croatia.

According to tests made at the Institute for the Study of Animal Problems in Washington, D.C., dogs and cats, like people, are either right-handed or left-handed --- that is, they favor either their right or left paws.

Domesticated cats are never mentioned in the Bible. Dogs are mentioned 14 times, lions 55 times.

The common belief that dogs are color blind is false. Dogs can see color but it is not as vivid a color scheme as we see. It is much like our vision at twilight.

There are 701 types of pure breed dogs.

The flea can jump 350 times its body length, that is like a human jumping the length of a football field.Anything over 45 minutes seems like forever to your dog. You will be greeted as enthusiastically coming back from a two-hour shopping trip as you will coming back from a two-day vacation.

A stray dog who is afraid of people will trust the people associated with the dogs it plays with.

The old rule -- multiplying a dog's age by 7 to find the equivalent human age -- is fallacious. A dog is able to reproduce at 1 year and has reached full growth by 2 years. To calculate a dog's age in human terms, count the first year at 15, the second year as 10, and each year after that as 5.

If a dog tolerates gentle handling between its toes, it probably is suited for children.

If two dogs are headed for a fight and they appear about evenly matched, the dog on his home turf will win easily.

If you want to be friends with somebody else's dog, let the dog make the first move, and don't be too quick to respond.

A kennel should be two times the length of the dog you are building it for. Measure the dog from its nose to the tip of its tail.

The best time for taking a puppy from its litter -- psychologically and physically -- is when it is 49 days old

last week my dad cut his leg open.

Next thing I know he's called over the cat and gets it to lick the blood and wound,.. which it does.

I shouted WTF are "you doing dad".

He told me the natural saliva in cats has antiseptic / antibacterial agents that can help wounds heal.

Its that true or has he a vampire cat fetish

Cat scratch disease is an infectious illness caused by the bacteria bartonella. It is believed to be transmitted by cat scratches, bites, or exposure to cat saliva. This leads to swelling of the lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy) near the site of the scratch or bite.

Only if the cat is infected though............

Cats don't just purr when there pleased/happy they also purr when stressed, frightened and in pain, another one, cats don't only get fluffed up tails when there frightened or fighting, they also get them when happy to, this confuses a lot of people when are little female Siamese get a really fluffed tail:)

the action of a cat rubbing its head against you is just to sent mark you, but has also evolved into a greeting, just watch Lions in the wiled,

and finally dog have owners, but cats have staff:)

Cats do not see themselves as little people but see us as big cats. This influences their behaviour.

Cat sign language includes yawning as a sign of peace and non-aggression, and turning your head to look away is a request for friendship.

That's why a cat usually goes to the one person in a crowded room who hates cats!! Because they will be the one not making eye contact, everyone else will be making that squeaky noise with their lips and trying to get the cats attention (staring at a cat is aggressive), so it goes to the person who's looking away.

So that must be why my kittens have taken to grooming me. I thought that was a little wierd ... I keep finding myself waking up in the morning with well conditioned but backcombed hair, and very clean ears
