Mate after the last rabbit I hit on the motorway Im doing everything to avoid the furry fecker, that one cost me £300 in repair bills to Bomex front, I thought the height clearance would clear him as the iccle wabbit clearly shat himself, froze and ducked, but it wasnt enough, resulting in the bottom of my Bomex taking his head clean off...... :(

And I also agree about Ins. companies doing what ever they can to stall, Im still waiting for a small shunt up my arse to be claimed, this was from Jan, and to date my insurance company keep contacting his every 3 weeks with yet still no update, or still awaiting information......its a fucking joke and insurance companies should be governed a lot more I think.....

I agree 100%. They can REALLY drag their heels. There's some good advice here.

Shane: don't beat yourself up about it. You made a mistake, we all do from time to time.... so did the guy in the Navara by not leaving a sufficient stopping distance. Just register the accident with the insurance company, keep it civil, and it should turn out OK. Get your GF to see a doctor about the whiplash. I'd suggest she looks up how to ease mild whiplash on the internet, to lessen any lasting muscle damage. I think the advice is a warm towel around the neck, but I wouldn't take my word for it.

Whiplash is a nasty condition. These "where there's blame, there's a claim" people make me sick when they try to prod people into filing a claim, but there's a big difference between what some of those people are trying to claim back, and claiming just what you're entitled to.

Hi mate.

I had a similar thing last year. A taxi went into the back of me at a set of lights. My insurance co said there was no way he was getting out of anything short of 100% fault as it's his duty to be able to stop. eg if a pedestrian ran out and you did an emergency stop, he should be far enough behind to be able to react and not hit you.

I was also pushed 4 or so feet and thought that the damage was not too bad, but when it was taken to Toyota for a quote (and subsequent work) it was about £4k. New bumber, chassis jig, rear impact bars, respray etc etc. I also needed a hire car for 30 days (not cheap). Bloody frustrating not having the car over the summer - missed loads of meets etc.

Hope your missus is OK and you get this sorted.

J

After all the comments and good advice given on here I took the afternoon off work today and took it to Brockhall's in Northampton. They gave it a real going over and in particular the boot area.

They have assured me that there is no damage to the chassis or structure of the car. I really trust these guys as I have known them now for about 20 years ( I used to run my business from premises opposite them). They are an approved insurance repair set up and have been in business there for about 80 years, so I do think they know what they are talking about.

They told me they have seen a few MKivs in over the years and seemed to know exactly where to look for damage. They had the spare and boot liner out and spent ages looking underneath and also at the metal work at the rear of the car on the inside of the boot. I was assured that there was no damage at all, other that is than the number plate support bracket, the plate itself and the scratches to the bumper. They said if it had been a modern rubbish motor (they used a Vectra as an example) it would have most certainly been bad if not written off, they see them all the time he said.

It has been a harrowing few days and I have not slept easy at all. But want to thank you for all the encouraging words and advice. In fact I am no spring chicken and not normally green when it comes to motors but in this instance seemed to lose it for a moment after the accident. I have had a load of crap, kids, ex, bird and especially work to contend with recently and the trip out on Sunday was meant to be a chill day, turned onto a nightmare really but there you are. Life eh.

Final note, my bird was fine the next morning and says she has not had any problems since, with her neck that is! In fact she has just called me to tell me the engine management light has come on in her Tigra and it sounds "clanky". Looking forward to that I can tell you.

Thanks again, Shane

your mad i remember once my brothers escort was hit hadr and nothing happend but after checking his whole shell was out

So what are you suggesting? It's been on a ramp, checked out by experienced crash repair specialists, who would be on the list my insurance Co. would give me to take it to in the event of a claim, and they have said there is nothing wrong with it. TBH I dont see there is a lot more I can do. It's not an Escort either, no dissrespect meant here but Escorts are not known for strength eh, ever seen one roll? You may think I am mad but I dont see there is a lot more I can do. I trust Brockhall's, I have used them before and they come pretty well recomended.

Thanks Micheal appreciated, but as I said in my reply, what more could I do.

Yeah I would think that with any rear end shunt the blame is clear. However, what if you braked suddenly without warning? You could get someone to rear end you easily (particularly if they were towing a boat).

Take it you haven't seen the amount of fraud related to this yet then:
