RobSheffield
although i certainly dont condone it, there are different circumstances, and i dont know any of that guys, so its not really a 'lesson' as such
Rayman
I wonder where the line is drawn with regard to street racing, a lot of people drag away from the lights all the time so will that be regarded as racing, i wonder what that guys circumstances where, im thinking it was a full on police style racing going silly leptons around corners etc, just generally dangerous driving! Was just wondering that myself. So if i was caught speeding at say 90 and there just happened to be a Skyline/Ferrari/whatever a few cars back minding his own business, would be both be done for "racing"? Must be more clear cut than that, cops must of been undercover following him. Wonder what the full story really is. Gutted for him though, he's lost a fair bit today but speeding is speeding. If i was done for silly speeds i'd have to just accept it
Bobbeh
I dont think there was a 'racing' section in the road traffic act, it just constituted carless/dangerous driving? We need some of the on board rozzers to help clarify for us

Ewen
Losing your licence is one consequence....and so is losing a loved one 'Man accused over road deaths.... Kayla Young and Amy Jones were pupils at Healing Comprehensive A second man has appeared in court charged in connection with the deaths of two 13-year-old girls who were knocked down on a bypass. David James Priestley, 23, appeared before magistrates in Grimsby on Tuesday in connection with the deaths of Amy Jones and Kayla Young. The teenagers were struck by a car which mounted a footpath close to the A46 Laceby bypass near Grimsby on 18 May. Mr Priestley, of Bonby Grove, Grimsby, has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He also faced charges of failing to report an accident, driving a vehicle with two defective tyres and driving with no insurance. He was given unconditional bail to appear at Grimsby Crown Court on 1 August. James Andrew Hill, 29, of Harrington Street, Cleethorpes, has already appeared before magistrates charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Mr Hill also faced charges of driving while disqualified, driving over the alcohol limit and driving with no insurance.' It wasnt the lack of insurance, or the defective tyres or the alcohol that killed these two girls, and many more victims like them, it was 1500kg of metal travelling out of control at high speed. Each one blamed the other for the crash, quoting the other guys lack of driving skills. I doubt my sister would have felt better had they been Nigel Mansell and The Stig. RobSoarer2.5TT
I'm the guy, The facts: Was a race between my car and a another. Quiet stretch of dual carrigeway, approx 2 miles long with a roundabout at either end, no slip roads, late at night 11.20pm to be exact. No Other traffic I placed myself along side an imprezza, I raced for approx 1/8 mile where on I slowed and stopped, as I had been beaten. I did not exceed a speed limit once, but thats not the point speed does not have to be considered. little did I know a police car was coming the other way. He turned round and came up behind me. He pulled me, over I stopped straight away, no chase or hooning around. 5 months on, and today i went to court. The law has changed there is now a mandatory 12 month ban minimum for racing on a public highway. no if' or buts thats it. There doesn't have to be speed involved if it's a race urnscrewed. i was given the minimum sentance for this crime. I only found out the severity of the offence today, up till now I was quite confident I would get points, a telling off, and a fine. My Solicitor feed me duff information. HOW WRONG COULD I BE!!!!!! As a result I am likely to lose my job, my house, and my partner. I really don't need any serves him right coments as I'm prety damn low at the moment. I only hope you don't have to go through what I have goine through today

RobSoarer2.5TT
How did they know you were racing from the other side of the road? The section is well known for it. The police saw the me and the scoob on the other side of the dual from about 3oom up, it was dark and I did not see them. If I had known this offence was now considered as serious as drink driving i would never have done it, but ignorance is no excuse. I fucked up, now I gotta pay the penalty

I would think the guy in the outside could get away with it if he said he went to overtake and the guy on the inside accelerated as he was being overtaken... Kopite
Sorry to hear that Rob, would it have been obvious that you were racing? Is all of this just based on the copper saying you were racing? Bit scary if it is!

Ewen
Read his post again, you prick. If that was a joke it wasn't slightly funny. That's as funny as a train wreck Ewen..... Wasnt supposed to be. There will be many here that sympathise with him, there will be others like me who think racing (as in trying to go faster than your oponent) on a public road is tempting sometimes but isnt worth the various risks. I posted originaly to point out that a lost licence is temporary - he gets another crack at it soon enough, but losing your licence isnt the only thing to think about when racing. Im not preaching, its just not what I bought the Supra for. Each to his own, and may their Gods go with them. You get banned for drink driving, even if you dont crash or hurt someone - now aparently the law considers racing on public highways in the same light. Im ok with that. So, looks like the end of a beautiful membership...dont quite know why Jake, but you were the one guy on here I didnt really want to run foul of.
