RedM
Is there or has there ever been a supercharged only Supra? Seems like a good charger would give power straight away and so would be pretty handy. What's the highest BHP you could take a Supra to with a SC? Any ideas of cost? Would going from TT to SC be a step backward or a more sensible option than going for a single? Thank you
ChrisSZ
...........or would it be the perfect in-between for N/A - T ??
Tom S
hence why I am going NA-T
Bob
Rotrex do the C38-81 which is supposedly good for 400-630bhp tech sheet thingy here: http://www.rotrex.com/pdfs/Rotrex_Technical_Datasheet_C38_Range_V1.4.pdf
Daston
Aparently this is a very common thing to do in the Lexus world there is one guy on the NA-T club forums who also has had this done.
Lucifer
Jagman is doing this, and yes it has been done before.
Digsy
Would you not have to push a disproportionate amount of power through the engine to get the same HP at the flywheel as you do for a big single? I did some rough calcs based on Ian C's 626BHP dyno run and estimated that it was taking some 71hp to drive the compressor. On a turbo that comes from the exhaust. With a supercharger it has to come from the engine itself, so an equivalent SC engine would actually be producing 697BHP once you take the addiional parasitic loss into account. Of course, the peak torque would be a tad lower down the rev range
Lucifer
Unles syou were using a small charger to spool the turbo?
Digsy
Well, yeah, but the original question was has anyone done pressure charging using only a supercharger, and what kind of powerr could you take it to?
b_have
Did Arnout ever get the dual pumps working together?
Daston
I think a "Supra charger" would be better suited to roads where you need low down power/acceliration and not 100+ speeds
Sharpie
Jagman is doing this Is he not adding a SC in addition to the Turbo's though ? i.e. running both on the same car ? Do you know how he is getting on with this ?
RedM
So, you could have a Supra that was comparable to a sensible single but with no lag? Money?
carl0s
I was thinking about this again last week.. funny that. Twin charging would be the ideal, but I'd like to have more off the line power, and would be interested in seeing some SC projects..
Guest blueangel
This is what i am looking into for my na but as of yet i havent really looked into it yet as i want the car on the road first then i will look into it more seriously. The idea for me is to have something a lil diff rather than more power.
ChrisSZ
I'd love to go SC rather than NA-T - it would suite my driving style more since I don't do a lot of high speed motorway driving, buch more A and B road blatts ) Anyone have any idea on prices for this?? Would it work out similar to a turbo conversion (price wise)?
Ian W
i thought the only superchargers done had been added to TT's or VVTI n/a's. doesn't the dizzy cap get in the way or something so you have to switch over to coil packs?
Gazboy
So for a car that struggles with grip off the line, you want to supercharge it? I've always fancied a LS6 twin turbo conversion....
carl0s
So for a car that struggles with grip off the line, you want to supercharge it? Mine doesn't struggle for grip. I have to powerbrake to spin the rears. It is a UK auto though.
Chris Wilson
BMEP on old style supercharger installations was very poor, you'd have to look at a clutchable SC like on the AMG SL55 Merc, or some other new generation supercharged engines. Chargecooling would be needed too, and a workable turbo installation will, as a result, be a lot cheaper and easier to arrange than an equivalent efficiency SC installation. carl0s
So does this mean we can't somehow fabricate lots of pipes and fit on one of the superchargers from a new BMW Mini-Cooper S? (They are easily found on eBay from new cars)..
