herbiemercman
When my NAT conversion was done by "Rocket Dog Racing" he fitted NGK BCR. 8ES. spark plugs, apparently they were said to be a softer plug more suitable for a hotter engine.? Need to know what other Members think as i am about to change them, like for like. My other question is where is the ECU located, many years back i think somebody told me it is under the front passenger seat?
chaoticentity
The engine ECU is located in the passenger side footwell, under the carpet, within a black plastic box.
herbiemercman
Thanks for info, I have just been reading a thread on Members trying to repair their ECU and it seems like a very long winded and high dexterity job, one of the Clubs most respected Members carried this repair out and failed. I am amazed there is not someone out there that has not set up an "Exchange and Repair" service as it seems like this is a very specialised job. I would love to know if replacement ECU's are still available from the OEM's, all be it i bet we will be looking at circa £1,500, or more? Dnk
I've not used them myself but i know of two people who had seat ECU's for classic Range Rovers repaired by this place. Might be worth a call or email https://www.avilec.co.uk/ Incase you haven't seen it Edited December 15, 2021 by Dnk (see edit history)
Scooter
Also a few NA ones on ebay that might be worth having as a spare/testing/backup one.
herbiemercman
Thanks Scooter i never thought of that and i thought they would be expensive. My car has only covered 60Kmiles from new and i have owned it for 24 yrs, is it a time thing or high usage which causes your ECU to fail? Also my car runs fantastic for moderate speed journeys, it is only when i give it some real boost that the misfiring and the fuel rich exhaust plume appears. I have a Mercedes e-300 from new with 270K on the clock and the ECU is fine.
evinX
The ECUs go bad with age, electronics and leaking capacitors that are not designed to last, its their nature as they are filled with a liquid. Chips will go bad to. And being left outside in a car over time and many different weather conditions wont help electronics. The Supra community needs someone who can actually do electronic repairs with garuntee, theres a few on social media who have the gift of the gab and nothing but bad reviews. I myself spoke to them and they just seemed to want the parts and payment with a whole load of chat. Someone out there must be able to make the boards of a early 90s Toyota ECU Edited December 15, 2021 by evinX (see edit history)
