Chris Wilson
Mark Brown and Syed Shah both have units fitted by me (but bought in the USA). Possibly the single biggest traction enhancer available for the MKIV. The stock type LSD is neither use nor ornament, to be frank.
Lucifer
Chris can you confirm if the Auto Supra's 93-96 need replacement driveshafts? Cheers.
Chris Wilson
jay-450, no, if you get the correct TRD LSD kit the drive shafts do not need changing. You MUST get 2 new diff side bearings and 2 new side seals, and a new diff pinion seal in order to effect a proper install. Dusty in the US seems to offer a good cheap service for all these parts, even the Toyota bearings and seals are a lot cheaper from the US

Chiefgroover
Is this diff adjustable?
suprabrown
Hi, I've got the TRD LSD fitted, as mentioned above, supplied by Nic and fitted by Chris Wilson - Would recomend the LSD, a big improvement however it does make the car a bit more unstable in the wet, or put another way you need to learn how to drive it properly It is predictable though and you can therefore control it with some practice. thanks to both nic and chris for their service, job well done.................. cheers mark
Nic
thanks to both nic and chris for their service, job well done.................. You're very welcome Mark
suprabrown
Oh, forgot to mention.......... my diff was an open diff from the factory, so, monkeymark, yes you can fit the TRD LSD to a non-lsd.......but you must ensure you get the right part, there are two different sizes. Nic can check for you if you supply him with your car details (axle code from chassis plate etc.) cheers,
Guest Terry S
There is no mystery to the Diff sizes guys. A at the front of the axle code is the small auto diff from the US ( just buy a TRD auto diff from US or ask Nic) B at the front of the axle code is the large manual diff from the US ( just buy a TRD manual diff from US or ask Nic) The subsequent numbers on the axle code are the gearing and then the A at the end means open diff or a B means torsen LSD so a B03B is a large type, manual gearing Torsen LSD
Wez
Whats the difference between the open diff and torsen diff then?
Chiefgroover
Will probably fit one when the car is off the road over the winter. I have had plate type diffs on a few cars, just wanted the feedback on the TRD one, as I think the rest were all ZF.

Chris Wilson
Whats the difference between the open diff and torsen diff then? An open diff has no slip control at all. The spider assembly allows the lighter loaded (usaually inner) wheel to spin without restriction. An LSD has a spider assembly that, through various means depending on type, restricts wheel spin of the lesser loaded wheel, or even stops it altogether by locking both wheels together with NO differential effect.
