Suprakeith
Well have had event full afternoon car started fine as normal and drove to post office and when stopped car the starter motor was still running so tryed to put foot on clutch see if that would stop it but didnt then tryed putting in gear and still no joy then 10 seconds later got plumes of smoke coming from engine bay so lifted bonnet and had smoke pouring from starter motor and few licks of flames, glad always carry fire extinguisher in car so put flames out. when was safe to go near car the starter motor and battery were still very hot to touch. Rang Rac for tow but wouldnt tow me because of front bomex bumper so have had to remove bumper to get to car mates garage and now just got to see what mate luke says, hope nothing to major thinking starter motor and battery def fried. Was very scary when saw all the smoke i was about to ring fire brigade as did think car was on fire

Ran into the Spar across the road, grabbed a bottle of water, threw a fiver at the till as I ran out the shop, saying I'll be back for change, put the fire out, and then 'officially' paid for the water lol

Wez
Had a similar issue back in 2004 http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?22888-Starter-Motor-Duff I ended up dropping the car off with Chris Wilson, when he removed it the whole thing was a melted solid mess, there are some pics floating about somewhere. At least i aint the only its happened too then did anything else need replacing ie the 120amp main fuse? when mine starterd to smoke lifted bonnet and had few small flames from starter so put them out and that was it car dead. the battery was way to hot to touch aswell so reckon that will need replacing aswell

Just the starter needed replacing on mine
