Never liked the escort, has to be rwd, ive had a couple of 3dr's many years back and a load of saph's over the years, just fancy having another go in one.

I'd love an escort cosworth one day. Iconic car for me, I guess I was just the right age when it came along.

Now, the Saph is definitely more the drivers car. I drove one a few years back and the steering is just unbelievable. It feels like you are holding the wheels themselves lol. I don't think I would bother with one though, I wouldn't be buying the Escort to drive in anger.... more to look at and generally just have lol.

It's all relative though. I know a hillman imp that can run an 11sec 1/4.

Saying an RST can beat a BPU Supra means that the RST has virtually nothing left of the engine, interior and is running slicks. And even then, it will only be at a certain range/point.

just r888s 2.0 zetec, 129 mph terminal is quick imo and its not just a drag car, tracked aswell.

for me jamie saph feels better to drive imo my 500 hp 3 door was twitchy on the front but all my saphs drove nice.

Yeah i agree mate, i bet its hard finding a nice one these days, back when i was into them 15 years ago there was plenty of dogs about, i bought a ringer once.

2.0 zetec? Stock block? Un-modified? If those do 129mph 1/4 miles I'll eat my hat. It's clearly modded to the near limits of modding if it's still a 2.0l.

Surely you see my point? Comparing something that is so far from stock to something that is stock bar essenstially an exhaust (BPU Supra) just isn't feasible IMO. My point with the hillman imp was that there are always cars out there, of all varieties, that will be extremely quick but have very little base on their original makeup.

The guy on the forum said a 300hp RS will be comparible with a 400hp Supra...... no it won't, it'll get toasted. Without grippy tyres it will be left off the line, the advantage that it will have in the lower gears will be lost due to the lack of grip and the upper end of the scale the supra will always stride away. It would need to be very purposefull to contend with a Supra under a ton, after a ton I don't think there is anything that could be done to help it other than gearing.

What's the spec Lee? Got any pictures? What model is it?

The engine was in an original series 2 RS turbo but some idiot smashed into me so I reshelled it into a H plate cabriolet.

The engine is a power engineering system 2 with pretty much everything else you can do to it without going zetec. Made 245hp and 250ftlbs at 18psi on the last dyno run. Goes well, used to show up all my mates cossies, they needed over 350hp just to stay with me. :)

Been off the road for a few years though.

A mate of mine still has an escort rst with 2l zetec... Dunno what sort of power it has but I know for a fact it wont run a 1/4mile in under 14seconds... Infact, hes bringing it to suprapod so you can have a laugh at it there :-D

I have to say owning a rs turbo for 6years and spending 11grand on the engine, mine was running 251bhp at wheels and would easy kill a n/a supra and i did race and beat a bloke who was 400bhp in a skyline now i know some wont believe that but its true and he will agree aswell that i beat him by quite alot, it depends how you set up a car any idiot car buy upgrades and have extra bhp but i set my rs to come onto full boost at 2500rpm and she spiked at 28 and held 26psi all the way. also my old mate tim who did have a mk3 supra running around 500bhp was amazed at how the rs pulled, and when we use to play from 30 miles to 100 mine was quicker but after that he would just pull away. A well set up RS Turbo is a hard car to beat

i totally agree ive been in a 250 hp 2 ltr rst and that was quite quick would suprise a stock or bpu supra for sure, pound for pound a supra can be taken way beyond any rs ford has to offer hence why i have one, but in the lesser tuned category it can be done to an rs and be quite quick the trouble is some people on here think supras are just the ultimate car end of, it seems a common issue some slightly tuned car owners have blinkers on ! lol
