wkdtime
ok will be checking for any boost leeks in re: to previous post! now 2 other problems that i have, are below: Problem one: when shifting gears from 1-3 or sometimes from neutral to one, i get a loud thump, i feel it in the car as well as hear it. possible cause?? Problem two: when driving over small bumps or hitting small potholes i hear like a rattling noise coming from the driver side of the car, very similar to keys 'chinging'. Car has had new front discs and breaks put on and brand new clutch as well. cheers guys, appreciate this.
tbourner
The 6 spd box will clunk all the time - more so when cold. You just have to put up with it or make sure you change at the PRECISE engine rev for the next gear. Has the right oil been put in the gearbox? As for noises, I was the same when I got mine - the noises are still there I think I've just learned to ignore most of them!!
mawby
Problem two: when driving over small bumps or hitting small potholes i hear like a rattling noise coming from the driver side of the car, very similar to keys 'chinging'.Not trying to be insulting but is it your car keys? Mine do it sometimes and drives me mad. Try holding on to them and see if the noise stops.
imi
Same here with the Car Keys.... Regarding the 6 sp Gearbox, I find it quite clunky despite putting in V160 OIL last week, its just the nature of the beast....
wkdtime
lol nah, i only have one key! no other keys attached, its deffinatley coming from outside. the gear box oil i dont know about? how can i check this?
SkyJawa
Shouldn't you have found all this out on the test drive or did you import it? I'd take it back to where you bought it from if its a dealer and get them to sort..........
SupraStar 3000
Problem two: the dash is nice and easy to remove. if your really bothered about it, take off a dash panel, drive around and see if you can trace the sound. I've added loads of junk behind my dash and ever single wire need to be tied down otherwise you get a rattle. LOL... and the key think is VERY frustrating
Tom
lol nah, i only have one key! no other keys attached, its deffinatley coming from outside. the gear box oil i dont know about? how can i check this? Read my post of the other thread, do you get this rattle when boosting too? as if there is a rattle then I reckon your EGCV actautor could be the cause of the low boost problem. Not sure how you can check whether the Gearbox OIL thats in there is V160 OIL. I hope for your sake that it is. Check the condition of the OIL, TBH - for piece of mind, its better to just get 2L of it for £60 from toyota.
TRD3000GT
can be the shock making the noise. I had the same when I first got my car! I just bought a new suspension setup. The shock had a small metal hat / cover between the rod and the actual unit that had come looks and would 'ching' over uneven road and bumps. c. Getrag
I had a the full gearbox oil change with toyota oil, it made it a touch smoother but it will always be clunky, especially when cold. And you will get the heavy "clunk" now and again when you put it into first when sitting at the lights.
Whitesupraboy2
tighten up the bolts at the front...my mind has gone blank and forgotten what everyone calls them now....ahh subframe bolts! it may not be that but worth doing anyway
wkdtime
nah its not rattling underboost, u can leave the damn thing in neautral and coast and you would here this chinging noise fromout side of the car.....think it may be suspension related. tbourner
If the VSV's bad enough it might do this though. Mine rattles when I lift off the throttle and use engine braking.

Ian C
Image 6 of this article shows you the EGCV Actuator (bottom right). That's the Exhaust Gas Control Valve, and the arm that comes out of the silver thing is, I believe, the bit that rattles. You can reach this from the engine bay although I'd do it on a cold engine I assume it'll be "jiggleable" by hand if it's loose enough to rattle, but having no first-hand experience of this problem I can't say for sure. -Ian
chris aka fonz
I had a similar noise on my old MR2 ! Next time you haer the rattling apply the brakes slightly and see if this stops it , it turned out to be a loose pad on mine ! Just a thought ! BigRoy
Problem 2 is your brakes. Whoever fitted your pads didnt put the retaining clips back in. Its not dangerous at all but the pads will move about causing that noise. It happens a lot, they tend to get lost on removal and usually the drivers side, weird:D Problem 1, dunno
absz
as ian c has said check the vsv for number 2 turbo, i had similar noise when bypassed the valve for the true twinturbo conversion. as for the gearbox seems normal for the 6 speed.
wkdtime
cheers guys, you've all been great, will carry out all the checks that you have suggested. thanx once again.
tbourner
I've got that key noise now. Not VSVs it's a slightly higher pitch noise than that. Sounds like the noise a key jangling would make if the sound clip was sped up about double!! My car's been through crap though it could be anything with mine!! Jspec Germany
Where are the subframe bolts? I've heard about them a couple of times now and would like to check them. Anybody got pics? Thanks.
Chris Wilson
Has the car had a decat? I would bet that the de catter failed to tie up the front cat temp probe to the chassis rail return adequately, or at all, and it's rattling against the cat removal pipe, and "chinging". I tie wrap them up out of the way. Don't tell me I decatted it.....
