Supra Road Tax

I've said this before, but I think a car should be taxed on the emissions IT produces - not a brand new one out of the factory, not a figure plucked from thin air - but the ACTUAL emissions from that exact car. Then, if you decat or whatever, you produce more emissions and pay for it in tax. If you run a car in good condition, and look after it, you are rewarded for it by paying less tax. Those damn cars on the motorway producing it's own fog behind it will be forced to maintain and look after their vehicle.

Anyway - I'm saying no more. It's good that us pre 2001 owners pay the lower rate, but I'm sure it won't be that way for ever.

Just picked the TT up from getting cambelt and bits done and asked the MOT guys what the score was with emissions. They said that the car is taxed on the figure given to the DVLA by the manufacturers for that model. The emissions they measure for the MOT have no bearing whatsoever on the tax.

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy my first Supra, bit confused about the road tax issue. My supra is from 1993 but it says it was first registered in 2006. Does this mean that I pay the new emissions based tax (£505) or the old engine size based tax (£230) because it was made in 1993?

That's why its not called road tax anymore, and now "motor vehicle tax". Its so they don't have to spend it on the roads now.
